Yeah, two simple songs for a simple summertime Saturday night. Hope your weekend is going well because it's all downhill from here folks. MP3 | Screeching Weasel - First Day Of Summer MP3 | Rachael Cantu - Saturday

Because... We're feeling like zombies today, having stayed up till 5.30am the night before to watch Manchester United beat Chelsea to win the European Champions League Cup (one of those incongruent timezone things that Europe will never get). Still, I'll have you know that feeling like a zombie is the second best feeling in the world, next to feeling a zombie. Like, fo' real. Go test it out. The Cranberries - Zombie (from No Need To Argue ) Tell me you didn't want to sing this every time you [...]

This song is so damn catchy, true, and fun that I only had to hear it once (on a Fat Wreck Chords compilation) before it stuck in my head for all time. Screeching Weasel - Cool Kids from Bark Like A Dog ( insound / amazon / itunes ) - or you know what, why don't you just pick up an old Fat Wreck comp in the used bin for like a dollar.

N ot only is today Halloween, it is also my beautiful wife Amy's thirtieth (30th) birthday. That's a milestone that means, "Damn we are gettin' old!" At least I have a year to go. Anyhow, since I already had this post basically done prior to the death of my computer, all I have to do is hit the "publish" button and I'm done. Lucky me. Sometimes a little planning is a good thing. Anyhow, here are thirty songs for thirty years. All specifically for my wife and all with some [...]

A re you looking for some snappy and poppy punk tunes? Look no further my friends. This is volume one of as many as I can (and want to) put together. If you have suggestions for subsequent volumes, please let me know. MP3 | Smoke Or Fire - Loving, Self-Loathing MP3 | The Loved Ones - 100k MP3 | Fifth [...]

Easily one of the best, most influential, and most prolific punk bands in Chicago history, Screeching Weasel , also managed to be one of the most enigmatic and polarizing bands as well. There seems to be no middle ground when it comes to loving or hating singer and principal songwriter Ben Weasel. Even my wife (in true teenage rock-and-roll crush fashion) once said that the only person she'd ever leave me for is Ben Weasel. Now I first heard Screeching Weasel as a result of a mix-tape that a friend made me in 1994. It featured [...]
It's a beautiful and sunny (but cold) Saturday morning here in Chicagoland and things are generally great. I've got hot coffee, fresh (homemade) blueberry Belgian waffles, and a mimosa. I'm done with school next week and things at work are looking way up. My 15 month old daughter has a vocabulary of over 40 words and a feisty little personality. She is (however) the sweetest child ever. EVER! Here is a little Saturday morning playlist courtesy of my wife's iPod (but tweaked by me a little). Enjoy your morning and I'll do the same. [...]

(AFI @ Berkeley Square in 1996; photo by Chris Bellew ) Growing up in the SF/Berkeley punk scene, I always heard about the mystique of '77 and the year punk rock was born. I wasn't around for the birth of punk, but I was around for the mid '90s punk revival. And as time has passed, I've grown to think of '94 in the way I used to hear about '77. What I loved about punk rock was that every band played with a sense of purpose. Every show at Gilman Street/Berkeley Square - [...]

I noticed that yesterday the blog got 11 hits from people looking for Born Against mp3s. Unfortunately for them, all of the BA that had been posted on the site had the links killed not too long ago. However, since I'm a nice guy, I'll repost them in this post and leave the links live for a little while. And remember, you can buy lots of BA stuff from Vermiform , Interpunk , and Amazon . Here's what has been featured thus far: Born Against - "Mount the Pavement" [...]

As of today, my lovely wife and I have been married for four years. Where has the time gone? She is pictured below with our beautiful daughter Hailey Elyse. I thought it would be fitting to post a few songs that (whenever I hear them) remind me instantly of her. They are sappy and cheesy, but isn't that how love songs are supposed to be? MP3 [...]
