With the JD Rock Awards just around the corner, we put together our picks of winners for the 2o13 edition of the awards (read here ), spoke to the event organisers about the troubles they face when mounting such an event (read here ) and also previously analysed in detail why the awards aren't working as well as they should be (read that here and then read a funny comic here ). After doing all of this, we thought we should find out what the JD Rock Awards mean to the awardees and therefore [...]

If you've been glued to your TV watching cricket matches lately, you may have noticed a series of short Fevikwik commercials, starring Scribe frontman Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy. At first watch, the Hassi Brothers in the advert seem to either have very powerful lungs or some sort of pathological laughter issue. Upon watching the adverts, you realise that they're just happy elves, who are occasionally clumsy, breaking toys, shoes and even a cell phone that looks suspiciously like a Nokia (but it isn't. Everyone knows Nokia phones are indestructible). But they don't stress, for they have Fevikwik, which fixes everything [...]
The final day of the Bangalore edition of the Bacardi NH7 Weekender saw energetic sets across the board, and some stellar mosh pits. We've got highlights.

Bangalore on Sunday got exactly what they asked for - massive sounding guitars, some serious shredding, double bass blast beats, and a whole lot of headbanging. Day two of the Bacardi Black Rock Arena at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2012, Bangalore, served up metal like it was coming from an endless body of molten lava. Prog, death, extreme, metalcore, thrash, even a dose of hip-hop, and then what's come to be known as djent. Read on for a full roundup of the day's events. Goddess Gagged started the day off at [...]

Now, before you get all snarky on me and start screaming nepotism or hanging chads or illegal voting machines in urban Pennsylvania, let me explain. Yes, this is a column devoted to two of the bands of our wondrous Ripple scribes. But this isn't about pumping them up or hyping them cause they happen to work at my beck and call. In fact, their music is being reviewed completely independently of any Ripple association. Let me explain. I first discovered Deadweight earlier this year, before the boys had put an album [...]

RAC just hit 25k fans on Facebook & Soundcloud, so he recorded this cover with Liz Anjos to celebrate & show their gratitude towards all your support. Original by Radiohead. “This is probably my favorite song off of OK Computer and it certainly wasn’t easy to cover, but hopefully you enjoy it. We’re big fans for Garbage and Portishead, so a little of that came out.” -André Allen Anjos Photo: random photo I took with my iPhone. I believe the piece belongs to Kansas City’s own, Scribe . I wish I could pick this up & bring it home. There’s so much art in Kansas City, this piece belongs to Scribe . Listened to this song on repeat meanwhile I was exploring downtown. Proceedings at the Bacardi Black Rock Arena kicked off on day two of the festival with great success. The stage saw performances by fledgling Mumbai metallers Paradigm Shift and Pangea followed by Bangalore old school metal veterans Kryptos . These sets were followed by a performance by the ensemble Bombay Metal Project and a secret set by Bhayanak Maut and Scribe to give metal lovers a very satisfyingly exhausting day at the pits. Paradigm Shift The Thane metal band were sounding pretty tight as [...]
We got an anonymous tip-off about some very dubious goings-on in Sion, and went to investigate. Our trip drew us into the deep, dark world of ritualistic virgin-killing, very organised rehearsals, and some grimy, grimy metchul. The Suspects : Bombay Metal Project , a collective of 15 musicians from some of the best metal bands of Bombay (duh), who will be performing a special set at the Pune edition of the Bacardi NH7 Weekender (have you bought your tickets yet?) next weekend. The collective comprises members of Bhayanak Maut [...]

Those of you who've been closely following the lineup of the Bacardi NH7 Weekender, Pune ( get your tickets! ), may have noticed, and been curious about a slot for Bombay Metal Project on November 3. If you're prolific on social media, you may also have seen the following image. Some may even have wondered whether there's actually a band called Collision Imminent (there isn't). The promo poster for the Bombay Metal Project We're here to bust all your notions about this enigma. The Bombay Metal [...]

It was a day of black t-shirts, flying balls and Countdown To Extinction at the Bacardi Black Rock Arena on the final day of the first Bacardi NH7 Weekender of 2012. For desi metalheads, a lineup of some of the best metal bands in the country preceded the headlining set from thrash metal giants Megadeth. Solstice Coil Israeli prog rockers Solstice Coil ( interview ), fresh off their set at IIT Kanpur the day before, brought their brand of melodic prog to their debut Weekender appearance. Metalheads were right [...]
The second installment of Metal Bharat (watch the first episode here ) has the two camps learning the art of how to be metal from their master, Guru Dronacharya (played by Venky of Bhayanak Maut ). The metalheads learn how to sing this song , play a solo and most importantly, headbang in the right manner. The episode works as a Metal 101 class (and is called that, sort of), lampooning stereotypes but the highlight of the episode are the guitar solo battles which follow the traditional Mahabharat arrow battle where magically powerful arrows [...]
