Sea Pinks are a new project by Girls Names drummer Neil. Sea Pinks channels similar influences (80s indiepop, 60s garage, girl groups, etc) while substituting GNs pastel shades of grey for a sunnier disposition and more stripped down sound. Staycation is taken from the new cassette "The Flip Side - Demos and Outtakes Vol.1" which collects together eleven previously unreleased Sea Pinks songs recorded during and in between sessions for the first two albums "Youth is Wasted" and "Dead Seas". It's available in a super limited run of 100 tapes (including download) [...]
Last year we talked about our adoration for Sea Pinks and their record Dead Seas , which you need to get if you haven't. But, I'm here to talk about a new track, sort of; this song, along with several others will comprise The Flip Side cassette being released by the Belfast group next week; it's basically a collection of B-Sides and demos since the band's incarnation. Every time I listen to this song, I can't help but wonder why on Earth it [...]

This week's round up of the tracks I haven't had the space to post... Black Marble From: Brooklyn, New York, United States With their synth driven post punk Black Marble sound like they've been created from recently uncovered instructions on how to create the perfect Factory Records band. Go Try [...]
Sometimes I'm such a late starter, I totally forgot about Belfast's Sea Pinks (Girls Names re-shuffled) and their second full-length Dead Seas . CF Records released a limited, hand numbered edition of 250 123 LP's and I just grabbed one of the last 50 copies. Dead Seas is picked with eleven swinging tracks inspired by sea glass, bleached grass and ghost guitars. Watch the new video for " Oh London ", footage taken from the Look at Life in the 19602s . Sea Pinks - Facebook [...]

A year end albums list is kind of a strange thing, especially when it's one person compiling it. Since this blog is a committe of one, it can become quite capricious. In all likelyhood I wrote about some records this past year that I was overtly enthusiastic about at the time. Now the end of the year rolls around and some of those records are not on the list. "What gives?" you might ask. It's hard to remember which label flew me to Tahiti and which one comp'd my CMJ this year, so I may have forgotten to include a [...]
#20: Blue Scholars - Cinemetropolis (Self-Released) Not many people have heard of the Blue Scholars, or their 2011 release Cinemetropolis, and I'm not sure why not. My theory is that they're so ingrained in Seattle that most people can't relate to their music. The other reason could be that they are just content being [...]

Make no mistake about it, the last few years have seen a huge reemergence for Slumberland Records , and yet the consistently seem to discover great band after great band. Sea Lions is their latest signing, and this little number right here is a perfect fit to the label's sound. There's a bit of a washed out jangle floating in there, but singer Adrian Pillado have a fairly distinct vocal delivery, which differentiates the outfit from a lot of their current peers. Personally, I like the clarity of the [...]
Earlier this year I raved about Girls Names full length, Dead to Me , so when they announced the release of a new single on Slumberland Records , I scrambled to listen to it. It's exactly what I expect coming from this group, although the guitar lines seem really clean-that's a positive. Deep vocals floating through it all and steady drumming build an excellent foundation for this little jam. Between this and Sea Pinks [...]

Alright, alright, alright. This particular Fresh Meat playlist starts off slowly but builds into a ball of musical energy that will make you want to punch Saturday right in the face...okay, maybe a brisk slap. Enjoy! Sea Pinks are a three piece from Belfast, UK formed in 2010. Singer and guitarist Neil Brogan began to write and record songs as a side project from his other band Girls Names(in which he is the drummer) and put out a cassette album Youth is Wasted , in September 2010 on his own label, CF/Records The band went on to record their first studio EP a few months later. Peripheral Vision was released in January 2011 on 12" vinyl also on CF/ Records. Like the tape, the EP quickly [...]
![[MP3] Sea Pinks: “Autumn Song”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3780028_lg.jpg)
One of my favorite songs of the year happens to be one of the simplest: Sea Pinks ' two-minute nugget of near perfect pop charm, "Peripheral Vision" . Now a half-year later, Neill Brogan's chipper jangle-pop project has a proper debut. Dead Seas came out last month via Cass Flick Records . Here's a new cut: Sea Pinks - Autumn Song As far as I can tell, Dead Seas is only available in [...]

Sea Pinks - Ballad Of The Band [Felt] | od | zs

As you've probably noticed, I haven't exactly been overflowing with new music this week. A large amount of this is down to the fact that it's been the sort of week which has been constantly disrupted, meaning I've had almost no time to sit down and properly digest anything. I have noticed an unusual number of people pushing their mewling progeny around the streets of Edinburgh with the buggy in one hand and their mobile phones in the other, squawking away like over-excited fucking geese. I wonder if there has been a recent rise of babies with phone-related [...]

Earlier this year Belfast, Northern Ireland's Girls Names unleashed their scorcher of a debut album. Its bright pop sensibility broke through clouds of gray that you would expect to find from a band that makes the northern reaches of the island of Ireland their home. Its a moody little thing that takes the soaring vocal cues from 602s girl groups while the music tends towards 802s post punk. Shake the Boggle container and and the letters that formed Girls Names now read Sea Pinks . The whole band move one space to the [...]
It's a rather thin week for new releases, most likely because it's too late for summer releases, and too early for fall releases. Still, there are definitely releases we recommend, including new albums from Peter Wolf Crier, Gold Beach, Wiretree, Balmorehea, and many others. What can we say about Peter Wolf Crier that hasn't already [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Snooze! Yes, a genuine, proper weekend snooze was had this morning and it was fucking amaaaaazing! I haven't actually had the chance to lazily sleep in for fucking months and it was an enormous pleasure. And not even a guilty one, because I genuinely don't have to rush about being efficient today. Awesome! This week's podcast contains a fair bit of plugging, I have to confess. Not all for myself though. I plug the Kurt Vile tour, Jonnie Common's Deskjob as well as his new album, the new Oates Field album and the new album by [...]
