It's been nearly three years since local-favorites-turned-Grammy- nominees Bon Iver have played a show in their hometown of Eau Claire, but on December 12 th and 13 th , the band took to UW-Eau Claire's Zorn Arena for two sold-out shows. Thousands of fans – many of whom camped overnight and waited for hours in sub-freezing temperatures for tickets – were finally able to welcome the band back from their latest European tour, and easily filled the 3,500 capacity venue. The show was opened by Lianne La Havas, a Londoner who warmed up the crowd with a solo [...]

Tweet Buy the album from Amazon – Vinyl | MP3 | CD The iTunes version of Bon Iver's first album "For Emma, Forever Ago" has "Wisconsin" as a bonus track, and as a beautifully heartbroken coda to the nine original tracks on the record, Justin Vernon crooned out "That was Wisconsin, that was yesterday/Now I have nothing that I can keep/ Cause every place I go I take another place with me." On his second record as Bon Iver , [...]

We brought you the exciting news just a few weeks ago that we were expecting a new LP from Justin Vernon's Bon Iver project to come out in June. More details have now become available, the record will be self titled and will be released through Jagjaguwar on June 21st. After the unexpected and international nature of the success of For Emma, Forever Ago and the beautiful, ethereal tones of the Blood Bank EP the new record has a lot to live up to, and [...]

I am a huge Bon Iver fan as I'm sure most of you are. The earnest music and knack for creating beautiful melodies enthralled me from the moment I first listened to For Emma, Forever Ago . It's easy to think of Bon Iver as Justin Vernon's musical outlet (although he has many now), but it's the entire band that complements and propels the music forward. I was struck by the chemistry of the band when I first saw the Take Away Show [...]

A few days ago we received an email from Jagjaguwar Records with a link to the new video for S. Carey's song "In the Dirt." The email said, "With no signs of winter coming to an end, we often forget the simple joy that snow once brought us as children. The S. Carey team received a video from two brothers who made a video for "In the Dirt," recruiting their own children on a journey lasting until sunrise in Malmo, Sweden." The "In the Dirt" video premiered on Spin.com,, and Sean Carey told [...]
I was introduced to this song by the fabulous Winter (Or What We Mistake for December) mix that Cheryse posted last Friday. It turns out that the creator of the enchanting tune, S. Care y, is a singer and multi-instrumentalist in Bon Iver who released his solo debut last fall. The stunning track is matched with a video that's just as lovely. The clip matches the wintry feel of the song depicting a young boy and girl bonding amidst a snowy Swedish backdrop, so basically Let The Right One In without [...]

Dear Crowd at the Paramount Black Box Theatre: I'm sorry if the tickets you bought mislead you into thinking you had paid to see Bon Iver. [Ed.-I think any misleading came from WERS' radio ads for the show, which played Bon Iver in the background. They changed the soundtrack to S. Carey only days before the show.] Throughout the show, I heard your continuous chatter, bouncing off each other false rumors of Justin Vernon coming out on stage that night. I know your tickets read "S. Carey (of Bon Iver)," but, girl next to [...]

50. Sonny and the Sunsets – Tomorrow is Alright 2010 was a good year for straight forward beach rock that drifted with carefree lyrics and concepts. Tomorrow is Alright took the genre into a more humorous and psychedelic direction and the results were quite rewarding. Just try listening to Planet of Women and not smiling, it's not possible. Valerie Phillips When Why You Runnin' , the debut EP from Rock Island, Illinois native Elisabeth Maurus - aka Lissie - was released late last year, she was heralded as a bright new voice of the alt.country scene and indeed, her emotive voice and songwriting had the right balance of twang and rasp that she could well have become the next big crossover act for the genre. The problem with this was that in many ways, alt.country has become as rigid and codified a style as the Nashville scene that [...]

SEAN CAREYLet's start your morning off with something super mellow and nice. Sean Carey was featured on the blog once before, but I thought you wonderful folks deserved another look at this really talented guy. The subtle, pretty piano kind of floats in the background of this one, and the violin that comes in partway through shows me he's willing to explore a little bit musically. Check out Mr.
