This is one of my favorite tracks off of Sean Rowe's most recent release, The Salesmen and The Shark . Sean's deep growling vocals are perfect for singing a tune about breaking loose and making an escape. He's got a knack for storytelling. I can imagine him sitting down on a dusty old chair in some smokey bar playing out these songs to the handful of people who are only there because they've got no where else to be. I feel late to the party, but am really happy to have finally arrived to the Sean Rowe get-together. When his newest LP, The Salesman & The Shark arrived, even the cover art stood out above the other records. And then you put the record on. Within moments of Bring Back the Night, and Rowe's rumbling voice takes over the room and his desperate melody captures your ears and imagination. This is a guy who's seen something you haven't. He's got a story to tell and one of today's most unique style of craft to project it. And [...]

Founded in 1999 with an initial focus on punk rock, Anti Records has now moved its focus across the worlds of country, indie, rock, folk, soul, hip-hop, rap and reggae. Managed by Andy Kaulkin, this label makes more sense than the ramblings of a 50 plus year-old man coaxed to the teeth on cannabis. DR. DOG – These Days JASON LYTLE - Dept. Of Disappearance [...]

Omdat de vrijdagmiddagborrel voor de deur staat, vallen we meteen maar met diezelfde deur in huis: De Amerikaanse singer/songwriter Sean Rowe heeft met The Salesman and the Shark onlangs een geweldige plaat uitgebracht. Geproduceerd door Woody Jackson (Rolling Stones, T-Rex, Beach Boys, Tom Waits, Neil Young) laat het schijfje horen dat Sean Rowe inmiddels een [...] The post Voor bij de borrel appeared first on Apply Some Pressure .

The smooth sounding voice of musician Sean Rowe is one of the most unique sounds to be heard in quite a long time. His bluesy, almost jazzy baritone voice cuts through every melody like a knife and sends an icy chill down your spine. While his voice is reminiscent of Marvin Gaye with hints of Bob Dylan inspired emotion, his vocals have only improved (even with such a reputation) since his debut album release entitled Magic , and has continued to project a freeing, almost cleansing vibe (perhaps it’s the density of his voice that gives our [...]

When I first heard Sean Rowe sing, his voice caught me off guard. But it didn’t take long until I melted into “The Lonely Maze,” which is perhaps the signature track on his sophomore album, The Salesman and The Shark . If you’re a “come for the music, stay for the lyrics” kind of person, Sean Rowe is your guy. Sean has been compared to Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen, both for his unique voice and the depth of his songwriting. It might be more apt to liken him to a [...]

Sean Rowe has one of those voices: an oaky, resonant baritone that would suck you right in even if his songs weren't so sturdy and compelling. Even a short listen to Rowe's work, however - his voice, the quality of the writing and the spare, yet filling nature of his guitar accompaniment - confirm him as a triple-threat alt-folkie justifying all his buzz and then some. But the voice, man. The voice. Comparisons to Nick Cave get tossed around a bunch, and that's legitimate. I hear at least as much, [...]

Sean Rowe The Salesman And The Shark ANTI- Records [2012] Fire Note Says: The Salesman And The Shark is a record that sticks with you and rewards with repeated listens! Album Review: Sean Rowe has one of the greatest, most distinctive voices in all of music. It's a lovely baritone that is equal parts Leonard Cohen, Richard Buckner, Tom Waits and Van Morrison. As a [...]
As a refreshing new generation of songwriters emerges influenced by the likes of Tom Waits and Neil Young, Sean Rowe is prepared to set himself ahead of the curve. ANTI Records, 2012 8.3 / 10.0 Over the last two years, I believe we have seen the rise of a new [...]
As summer fades, the number of new album releases steadily increases. Last week was one of the best weeks of the summer for new album releases, featuring new singles from the latest albums by bands like Yeasayer, Bloc Party, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, and others. This week, the musical offerings are even better, with singles [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
Singer-songwriter Sean Rowe will hook you with his booming, resounding voice, and then reel you in with fresh, beautiful stories and writing.

Divine Fits top this week's list of new releases. The much anticipated project featuring Dan Boeckner (ex-Handsome Furs, Wolf Parade), Spoon frontman Britt Daniel and New Bomb Turks drummer Sam Brown, finally debuts with A Thing Called Divine Fits , which our Music Director, Don Yates, calls "a rock-solid set of concise, sharply crafted pop-rock with a crisp, ‘80s-influenced sound driven by buzzing synths, lean guitar lines and propulsive rhythms, with Boeckner and Daniel alternating on lead vocals." Not quite as quirky as Boeckner's Wolf Parade partnership, nor sultry as Daniel's Spoon, Divine Fits will nevertheless create catchy [...]
