Ghostland Observatory will lazerize WaMu this weekend / photo by Christopher Nelson We've got another great week of shows in Seattle, with a ton of variety. This is a city where you can see a good show just about every night of the week, and this one is no exception. Starting on Monday night, we've got some great Northwest connections back in town with former Fleet Fox Josh Tillman's new project, Father John Misty , performing at Neumos. On Tuesday, there's a psych fest at Neumos with Black Moth Super Rainbow, Lumerians, and Pictorials . [...]

Here's Seapony 's cover of one of my all-time favourite songs, "Emma's House" by the Field Mice . I'm not sure exactly where this comes from or when it was released, but the Seattle indie pop band does the song justice by remaining faithful to the original, right down to the lead guitar licks and delayed drum intro. I've seen the band perform this song live a couple of times with Rose Melberg , although she's not on this recording.

I was a happy kid. Sure, things could have gone a tiny bit smoother with sponsor issues and sound-guy car troubles early, but we pulled together like a community and put on an excellent day of music. Big thanks to all involved, my +1 for bartending early, the bands for helping each other out, whatever it took was whatever it took and the party felt like SxSW of old. So here are a bounty of pics from the 2nd St. Showdown ... Of Young Girls , [...]

Listen to "Prove To Me" , a brand new track from Seapony to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Hardly Art Records . Hardly Art Records is turning 5, and to celebrate their anniversary they have released a new track from Seattle's Seapony which will be available only at the label's upcoming SXSW showcases and anniversary shows. As always, this is an adorable twee pop tune from these guys, a dreamy kind of indie pop with really [...]

Seattle outfit Seapony has surfaced some new material, 'Prove To Me' will be featured on the Hardly Art five year anniversary release which you can only achieve if you're SXSW bound and able to attend their anniversary show. Hopefully that will change soon but in the meantime stream this little lovely below. Debut album ' Go With Me ' is available now.

Facebook I said on my write up of their debut album 'Go With Me' that I'm an absolutely sucker for the sort of dreamy, blissful tunes that Seapony so effortlessly create and just to prove that point they go and hit me with another one, "Prove to Me" debuted today and is all kinds of wonderful. It follows the Seattle trios (though judging by the picture expanded for live shows) signature heart-warming indie-pop lines and is one of their most beautiful yet, fluttery drum beats, sparking guitar jangles and Jen's [...]
Last year Seapony seemingly came out of nowhere, casting their dream pop across the globe, and definitely won some hearts over here at Austin Town Hall. Their record, Go With Me, on Hardly Art still plays on at my house non-stop. We caught up with the band before they head our way (and play our show!). They'll be at our party at 2:45, so be sure not to miss it! ATH: What is the most [...]
As I sit curled up under two blankets on my couch telling my friends for the second and third times that yes , I am already on spring break, I can't help but think that Georgetown gets it wrong. I understand. Really, I do. Any later into March and spring break would be too close to Easter, but come on - 40 degree highs and knitwear? This isn't what spring break is about. It's about enjoying rising temperatures or surf-side destinations, breaking out the cutoffs and bathing suits , soaking up the rays and sipping on tropical-flavored beverages. [...]

On Wednesday, Slow Club is at the Sunset, and the Love Me Some Townes Van Zandt show is at the Tractor featuring [...]

It's that time again folks, time for SXSW and another awesome show by yours truly here at ATH. This year we're teaming up with our amigos over at local label Sonora Records to bring what is arguably the best SXSW show around. We've got a sweet lineup that's been worked on behind the scenes for months now with some equally incredible local sponsors. Here are the deets on the show: Date: Friday, March 16th Times: Music from 12 noon until 12 midnight. That's 12 friggin' hours [...]

The glacially exciting winter touring season started to thaw out and this week and provided an early spring rush of shows that got me out of my winter show-going hibernation. On Sunday, the Fresh & Onlys were up from San Francisco along with Chicagoians Disappears . Disappears are about to release their third and best record Pre Language. It's their first with new drummer Steve Shelley who use to be in some other band called Sonic Youth . Shelley is game for touring with his other band on indefinite hiatus and the Disappears are [...]

Sleigh Bells at Sasquatch! 2011 / photo by Alex Crick A nice extended weekend (President's Day), usually leads to a good week of shows. This week starts with Grimes at the Sunset Tavern on Monday night (sold out, sorry!). On Tuesday, Veronica Falls, Bleached , and Seapony are at the Tractor, and Damien Jurado plays a free in-store set at Sonic Boom Records in Ballard. Wednesday night, the extremely talented Cate Le Bon and Charles Leo Gebhardt are at the Crocodile, and Chuck Prophet and the [...]

I don't really have to write much in this post. All you need to know is that it's for a good cause and you should go buy it. 11 bands . 1 song . All profits to Breast Cancer Care . Full tracklisting and details here . I'll be honest, before i downloaded this the only contributing artists i'd heard of were Keep Shelly In Athens and Laki Mera. Greece's Keep Shelly In Athens have covered The Jesus And Mary Chain 's seminal "Just Likey Honey" from their 1985 debut album "Psychocandy" . It's being released as part of a Charity compilation for Breast Cancer, details of which can [...]

I took a year off from doing a favorite Seattle records list due to lazyitis (sorry Seattle). Here's my top ten records from my fair city for 2011 (sorry Seattle). 1. Seapony - Go With Me ( Hardly Art ) Twee is alive and well in Seattle. Seapony kind of came out of nowhere late last year. They put their debut album out on local label Hardly Art, played countless shows around town and generally put the Northwest back on the map when [...]
Here is my list of the songs I liked best in 2011, which will be the last one we offer here. I only adhered to three rules with this list, really: 1. The song had to be officially released in 2011, 2. I could only select one song for any artist, and 3. The list [...]
We've already brought you our songs of the year and Texas albums of the year, so now it's time for the much anticipated albums of the year list. I'm sure many of you will notice some big names off the list and you will be ready to plead your case about why we are wrong. We'll hear ya out... Feel free to drop us a comment with your own list or just to debate with us. Follow the jump for list. 50) The New Tigers - s/t 49) Secret Cities [...]

This time last year I did a post where I basically talk (write) aloud to myself about the albums I put as my favourite of the year 12 months ago and what I think about that now, invariably you're late in discovering a few albums and you're tastes change over time. My list of albums from 2009 changed quite a lot when I redid it in 2010 ( check here ). Though, after saying all, that, I've decided my list of 25 albums for 2010 (which can be found here ) is actually still highly reflective of what I [...]
51. Gem Club - "Breakers" Stunning beautiful, simple piano piece. I can feel the whole world slowing down around me. 52. M83 - "New Map - vimeo Along with "Midnight City" and "Steve McQueen", this track got played a whole hell of a lot this year. While the album as a whole had some weak spots (I've found very few double LPs that wouldn't benefit from a shorter length), the high points were very high. This song stays with the basic formula [...]
