F rom the ash of Dinosaur Jr . came Sebadoh from wence came The Folk Implosion . Now, some 15 years after its initial, lo-fi release Sebadoh III is being re-issued by Domino Records ( 10July in Europe: 8August stateside). Between 1989 and 1991, the band released 3 albums that more or less changed the ugly, pockmarked face of indie rock. The albums [...]
The truth is I have way more music to recommend than time or inclination to write about it. So some of the tracks I'm about to post would, in a better world (one in which I didn't have a job that sucked the love of words right out of me), be accompanied by insightful, incisive prose, prose that made you not only hear the song in question differently, but music, hell, all sounds , in an entirely new way. If Chuck Norris and Sebadoh had a reissue-off, Chuck Norris would win because he is able to digest food...
Rock. While it may seem hard to call Sebadoh III the shot heard all around the world, this ambitious album, along with Pavement´s Slanted and Enchanted, were the one-two punch that opened up a way forward creatively by ransacking the vestiges of the '80s American underground. Select Magazine liked them. Sebadoh - The Freed Pig Sebadoh - Gimme Indie Rock That is all.

Maybe you sold back your copy of Sebadoh III while you were in college so you could buy a case of Milwaukee's Best on a Friday night. Maybe your Delta 88 ate the cassette tape and you've never been able to find another copy. Maybe you've never been privy to the lo-fi genius of Sebadoh. Regardless, Sebadoh III, is an album that every indie rocker should have in their collection. Along with Pavement's Slanted and Enchanted, Sebadoh III is widely considered a landmark album of the American lo-fi movement of the 90's. It's loud, a little sloppy, somewaht dischordant, and [...]
