image: tufts vs cits Say hello to my old friend, Bloody Beetroots . I've been like, jizzing myself about them for the past... oh, year . The Bloody Beetroots can throw their 'signature' bass drum + snare + plucking synths + distorted/reversed vocals + stutter tracks on ANYTHING and make it sound gold, but is there anything beyond these sounds with the masked (all day long) italian producers? Don't get me wrong on this one, I'm not complaining, but let's hear what you can do using something [...]

15. Burial – Untrue The first time I listened to "Untrue" I was immediately captivated. Dark ambient music held together by a quick beat and unknown vocalists, not something I'd picture myself listening to, but it works. The anonymous musician behind Burial says his music is like "walking home across London late at night, dreamlike, and you've still got the music kind of echoing in you, in your bloodstream, but with real life trying to get in the way." I've never walked the streets of London [...]

Chris Carrabba , take note. There's a new player in Emo World, and he knows how to do more than strum an acoustic guitar and look cute in videos. Meet The Secret Handshake , a.k.a. Luis Dubuc. He has married electronica and emo to make a beat-tastic CD filled with emo-tastic lyrics. Now, for non-emo fans, please don't stop reading this, unless you already did when you saw Chris Carrabba mentioned in the first two words of this post. Believe me, emo usually doesn't do much for me. [...]

The new noise coming out of Texas has nothing at all to do with politics. Luis Dubuc is touring the country under the brand name of The Secret Handshake - bringing Daft Punk-like electronic music to the masses. He is quite different and that difference is bringing out the crowds. Dubuc's premiere album, "One Full Year" is in stores now. The Secret Handshake - New project in '07 [...]

Mobius Band – Heaven Mobius Band is an electronic rock trio, currently based in Brooklyn , NY . Although I didn't find myself completely in love with every track off of "Heaven" with the first few listens, there is a very compelling originality with these new songs that kept me coming back. These guys are able to bridge the gap between modern indie rock and elecronica pretty flawlessly I think. They balance vocals that seem to lack energy with incredible bass guitar along with danceable beats and [...]

This Saturday BigStereo & Mezzanine present Crystal Castles ! Last time Crystal Castles came to town they were here it was in support of The Presets , this time the duo are the headliners. I'm stuck out of town for work this week. If anyone know what there is to do in Ft. Smith, Ak please message me. So as I sit in my shitty little days inn room, I'm going to start writing for B like I told him I would. The Secret Handshake album came out last week and I'm pretty stoked about that. Luis is an awesome guy, and makes really good music. Now I know it is a bit "emo" or whatever, but really the dude knows what he is doing. I got [...]

Here are some of our best finds on bandsites, labelsites, promosites and magazines on the web this week. Twelve great tracks for you to enjoy! Citay - First Fantasy (from labelsite ) San Fransisco's Citay will release their second album "Little Kingdom" on the Dead Oceans label on November 6 , and this track is a taster of the new album. I love the fantastic psychedelic bass-groove and the vocals are a delight! Nightmare of You - I don't want to dance anymore (from spinner ) [...]

T he Secret Handshake is a one man show consisting of Luis Dubuc from Dallas, Texas. On his Summer Of 98 EP , he churns out a few great emo-rock jams that are dripping with sweaty dance-inspired synthesizers and skittering drums. The EP is rounded out by a few remixes by notables such as Spank Rock and The Dillinger Escape Plan. This EP from The Secret Handshake is a good intro and makes me curious to hear the new full-length due out on September 25th on Triple Crown Records . [...]

Two posts in one day . . . I know, but waiting for The Sopranos finale/worst NBA Finals in history has me on edge. In retrospect I think it's also probably a bad idea to drink beer instead of water at 5:30am. Moving on . . . Oms is on a honeymoon weekend with his boo in DC so it's fallen to me to do a touch post, but i'll be damned if this isn't the dopest five song explosion in Love Controls history. If this Toxic Avenger dude keeps making music, I'll be evicted [...]

The internet is an odd thing. When it's gone you instantly want it back so you can Google that festival, find out what gigs are happening later on in the week, check your e-mails, use Dictionary.com to define that word, find out an album release date, check out the cinema listings for your area, research whitening toothpastes in order to find out which of the commercially available one's is the least abrasive, find out what the weather looks like for tomorrow ('cause you're praying it's a nice day so you can go to the park and take pictures, but you [...]

The Secret Handshake is a project by one-man laptop wizard Luis Dubuc. The Texan likes to describe his music as "emo-tinged electronic music" that is an excellent description of his sound that is a cross between Fall Out Boy, Mylo and Arjanwrites.com favorite, Young Love. After putting out his full-length "Antarctica" in 2004 and the EP " This Is Bigger Than You And I " in 2005, he recently released his new EP "Summer Of '98" with new tracks and remixes. To celebrate the release of the disc, The Secret Handshake has teamed up with [...]
With the success (or at least popularity) of Young Love, emowave is all the new rage - maybe. Hot on the heals is fellow Texan Luis Dubuc aka The Secret Handshake who is set to drop his second album this spring. Produced by Ocelot Mthrfckrs , "Too Young" is a melodramatic indie-pop-punk track that in itself is a tad bit... sad. Sad as in sad not bad. Maybe that's your thing though. And... the production is pretty damn solid. Toxic Avenger creates a dirtier mix for the dance floor which ends up being a bit [...]
Another friday, another set of remixes. This one will even have content! The Secret Handshake I first heard him via a link from Ocelot's myspace page and instantly considered him to be one of those guilty pleasure bands. You know, one of those bands you listen to even though you know you shouldn't like them but can't help but do anyway? All the while trying to hide it from showing up in your last.fm player? Shush. You totally know what I'm talking about. [...]
