Brothers Larry and Vincent Cassidy started Section 25 back in 1977, soon signed with Factory Records, and went on to help define what would become affectionately known as the Manchester sound before disappearing from the public eye for almost two decades. The most recent album from Section 25 is 2010's Retrofit, a collection of previous songs given an electronic makeover and featuring the added vocals of Larry Cassidy's daughter Bethany. Months prior to the release of Retrofit , Larry Cassidy passed away, but Section 25 has decided to continue onward with Bethany Cassidy as the [...]

It may be hard for most to recall but New Order weren't the only pioneering post-punk electricians coming out of Manchester during the early 80s. Languishing under their shadow were fellow Factory records label mates Section 25 and their, now considered classic, electro track Looking From A Hilltop ; 4 and some change minutes of haunting vocals and unrelenting modulating synths over a Kraftwerk inspired beat (produced by New Order's Bernard Sumner no less). 20 years later, and shortly before their rather sad demise, Glasgow indie power pop trio BIS paid homage to Section 25 [...]

It used to be that Saturday mornings were all about having a long lie in, since the arrival of Erin things have been somewhat turned on there head. My now routine on a Saturday now tends to involve getting up at 7am, feeding Erin, have a cup of tea and then write this post. Not that I complaining, as trying to write a post when you're hungover can sometimes feel like pulling teeth. Not today though as I am feeling rather sprightly, plus I am catching up on Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle from a couple of weeks ago which in [...]

This is an excellent track from the Section 25 album " From the Hip ". This track had been reworked by Bernard Sumner (New Order) and A Certain Ratio A Certain Ratio drummer Donald Johnson (aka DoJo) as the single on FAC 108 (Factory Records release). Other releases of this song, the much extended "Restructure" and "Megamix" versions met with considerable success, particularly on import in the US, where Hilltop broke as a club hit in New York. The single also received extensive airplay, and succeeded in crossing over to [...]
Filed under: News , R.I.P. Larry Cassidy, founding member of post-punk group Section 25 , passed away Feb. 27 at age 56 according to Pitchfork . A cause of death is unknown. Cassidy formed the band with his brother Vincent in late 1977, and were coupled with the budding post-punk dance scene that burst out of England in the early '80s. Joy Division 's Ian Curtis even produced their first 7", 'Girls Don't Count.' They would go on to become one of Factory Records' main [...]

I had planned to write about a bunch of new records I'd heard over the past couple days. All that has taken a back seat now that I've learned of the untimely death of Larry Cassidy. Although no official cause has been given I'm assuming it was of natural causes, though he wasn't that old, I'm guessing mid-50's. Section 25 had regrouped in 2001 but the death of Larry's wife in 2004 delayed new material until 2007. According to Section 25.com they were about 75% finished their 3rd record since reforming. My introduction to [...]

I picked both of these up in Dublin in 2005. The shop might have been called Bassbin? Not sure, but Simon Conway put me on to these. Anyway, I'd like to post a couple of the tracks, but first I want to determine if these are edits. I'm suspicious of the Section 25 & Chris and Cosey cuts because they are a different length than the other versions on Discogs. This verion of "Looking From a Hilltop" sounds like a re-edit of the megamix. Does anyone out there have any info on these? Here are the Discogs entries... [...]

Never really could get down with car-crash sexual fetishism, but for mere shock value David Cronenberg's 1996 movie "Crash" still freaks me out. Nothing like broken glass and warm leather to get the blood flowing. I'm pretty sure Section 25 wasn't referencing J.G. Ballard with this song, but they wouldn't have been the first. Here's some more dark minimal wave for your Halloween delight. Section 25 - Carcrash Section 25 - Carcrash (Demo)

Thought I would switch it up for a change and post an 80's synth pop track from the legendary Factory Records stable. This cut from Section 25 was a staple of mine some years back when I incorporated quite a bit of new wave and post punk into my DJ sets. I dusted this record off in anticipation of the upcoming Section 25 show at Mezzanine in SF and it served to remind me that I still love this kind of stuff. The British in particular were damn good at making new [...]

[Random observations on a Tuesday afternoon ...] Ozzy Osbourne , who will be honored Sept. 10 at the House of Blues as the kickoff to the Sunset Strip Music Festival , has been added to the bill to perform the final set on the festival's outdoor stage on Sunset Boulevard on Saturday, Sept. 12. Korn, Pepper, Kottonmouth Kings and Shiny Toy Guns are among the 40-plus bands playing in a lineup that nods to the Strip's rawk heritage. A snarky person might note that, with the event [...]

LTM has announced the release of the first ever "Best Of" compilation from Section 25 . The comp is titled Dirty Disco (1978-2008) and set to be released on March 31st. The cult group that was initially mentored by Joy Division went on to release four albums on the Factory Records imprint between 1980 and 1986. The albums received production from Factory alums like Martin Hannett and Bernard Sumner, along with Ian Curtis/Rob Gretton produced singles. Much like labelmates the Durutti Column, A Certain [...]
With the recent passing of Tony Wilson a few weeks ago, I'd like to shed some light on some lesser known Factory/Factory Benelux bands. Everyone knows New Order, Joy Division, Happy Mondays, and to a lesser extent, A Certain Ratio(who we here at Camp Res disagree on....or I should say rather, no one likes except for me.) First up is Section 25 , who took their name from a British mental health provision. This track is from their third album From the Hip from 1983. For my money, this is an obvious [...]
Too many of these lately. Tony Wilson was a know-it-all prat but that certainly doesn't mean I didn't respect him. The way he ran Factory records -- split the money 50/50 with the band, artist freedom, amazing sleeves, etc --...
