" Boris are widely known for their ability to breach styles and stretch sonic boundaries of all that is heavy, psychedelic, droning and downright cathartic. But, Attention Please is more like a complete redefining of their potential in several ways. First and foremost, it is the first album on which all vocals are sung by lead guitarist, Wata. While she has previously sung on a couple of songs for singles and her solo outings, the entire 10-song album features her intimate, multifaceted vocal style. Secondly, the songs on Attention Please have a sultry, intoxicating catchiness to them. [...]

If Sergeant Sparrow Records rings a bell to most of you avid FensePost readers, that may be because the work they have put out has been no stranger to our little world. The label's owner/operator/lady in charge, Angel Russell, has been featured for her solo work (of which is absolutely phenomenal) and teammate Arman Augusto has been noted as well for his project The Walking. And if these posts still don't ring a bell, that is a shame. But worry not ye weary ones, there is still time to save your [...]

Never having been ones for fanfares and crescendos, it's little surprise that the new EP from London's Sergeant Buzfuz covers much the same ground as their previous material. Which will do just nicely, thank you very much! 'Knock Knock Knock' is all mandolin, acoustic guitars and violin, but the restrained production the lack of pomposity from songwriter Joe Murphy safely manoeuvres it well away from Mumford And Sons territory, sounding far more natural. It's not all about the title track either. 'Shift In The Sand' and 'Horns [...]
I was inspired to put some thoughts down after reading Sergeant D.'s post about what a terrible decision it is to commit yourself to the band life at a young age, because eventually the wheels will fall off and you'll end up just like some morose version of the Anvil story: Sad, old, broke, [...]

I'm going to skip my usual 1000 Minutes post for today - in part to allow Dave to catch back up to me, but mostly because I didn't even get a chance to think about it this past week. In lieu of that, I'm introducing you to a new band: We ...

This time last year The Pop Cop came up with an ingenious idea . Having noticed how outrageously attractive the Glasgow gig calendar was in the month of October, we appealed directly to the Lord Provost to declare 'Rocktoberfest' the official catch-all name for 31 days of live music in the city. We mapped out one amazing show per day - from pop and soul to rock 'n' roll, from hot newcomers to world conquerors, but despite doing all the hard work for him, the Lord Provost decided not to take us up on our [...]

Earlier in the week the lineup of the of Homecoming Live was announced, I had toyed with the idea of posting about it, but to be honest I found the whole event so ill thought out it didn't deem worthy of inflicting upon the good folk that come on here. Taking place at the SECC on the weekend of St. Andrews Day the event is supposed to be a celebration of Scottish Music, so why on earth the organisers reckon that a stage featuring the old irrelevant codgers stage and the random as fuck stage, [...]

If 'cheap and cheerful' sum up your kind of music event then SOSFest in Edinburgh could be just the thing: three days, two stages, one venue - and all for the price of a CD album. Like anyone actually buys those any more. Location: The GRV, Edinburgh. Fascinating fact: This week, SOSfest headliner Tommy Reilly has eaten a chicken pie, watched Inglourious Basterds and a bit of Balls Of Fury, and visited Glasgow nightspots Moskito and [...]

Sergeant - "Counting Down the Days" Sergeant - "Swiftly Does It" Sergeant - "K OK" not that they're directly changing the face of rock and roll, Sergeant make their subtle impact by simply throwing down on some proper britpop. it's just brits doing what brits do best. yet when it comes to so many UK guitar bands nowadays, it seems Sergeant take the different path. there's no bull shit, no fluff, and what everybody else seems to be doing... doesn't matter. what does matter is what you can [...]

Sergeant - "K OK" Sergeant, you should make at least one journey across the pond. please? it's really not that bad here... promise. shit, we've got beckham back.. eh? get rating: 8

You only have to cast an envious glance at the awards ceremonies that seem to be happening every other night to realise the entertainment business is a world of profit and excess. And if you're making plenty of the former, you can never have too much of the latter. Yet make no mistake, the music industry is currently fighting an increasingly desperate battle to reinvent itself in whichever direction maximises its need for financial exploitation. The supposed saviour - live music - isn't an indestructible cash cow after all, certainly not in Scotland given the recent [...]
We'd like to introduce you to Sergeant, a new group we stumbled across the other day. The four-piece band from Scotland makes groovy, feel-good pop-rock music, very reminiscent of Oasis (they actually supported Oasis during their Scotland dates), The Fratellis, and Steadman (one of our all-time favorites). Check out their upcoming single, Swiftly Does It , due out March 16th, and previous single, Sunshine . We can definitely see these guys blowing up, so get it while it's hot. Swiftly Does It- Sergeant [...]
