If there was ever a perfect psychedelic soul samba summer album, Seu Jorge & Almaz is damn well near it. It's a collaboration between Seu Jorge , Nação Zumbi collective Pupillo (drums) and Lúcio Maia (guitarist), along with António Pinto on bass. Each of the four are excellent, very well respected artists in their own right, and their on-studio chemistry on this album, their first together, is palpable. Seu Jorge and Almaz (drummer Pupillo and guitarist Lucio Maia, bassist and composer Antonio Pinto) have a new record coming out on Stones Throw's Now and Again where they cover Brazilian songs while adding a bit of psychedelic samba to some classic American and European soul tunes.
