I stumbled upon Cícero via the eclecticly-excellent mixtape titled "Is This Indie?", a Brazilian tribute to the Strokes (which you can download for the price of 1 tweet, RECOMMENDED). Artist metaphor: think Seu Jorge and old Nelly Fertado (the folk version). Visual metaphor: a pleasant indie/folk sound, like an audible grin that's just waiting for the sun to return with his post-Movember rainbow-stache. My advice to you, Cícero's entire album is free via the link below, pick it up. If your feeling [...]

The whole world is wondering (or should be wondering): "What's coming out of Rio?" A better question might be, "what hasn't been coming out of Rio?" While the city - Brazil's second largest, after Sao Paulo - does not possess the deep, immediate Afro-Brazilian musical roots one more often associates with Bahia, its music is unmistakably grounded in those same Afro-Portuguese strains that define the country's musical DNA. I could spend a lifetime talking about Bahian genres - really, they're more like the genres of Brazil itself due to the infusion of African strains in its music - [...]

He is without a doubt one of my favorite singers. I'll never forget the first time I heard the brilliant " Em Nagoya Eu Vi Eriko "; it's one of those mood-changing songs that reverberates through you, its vitality and warmth contagious no matter your current disposition. Seu Jorge's creativity is legendary, and the multi-faceted artists does it again with his most recent piece of work, Músicas Para o Churrasco Vol. 1. It essentially translates to "Songs for your barbecue" and is exactly what it sounds like: a collection of infectious, high-energy songs with that hard to define Seu Jorge [...]

Tweet This post is a "QuickPick". QuickPicks are my attempt at getting all of the music that's sent to me that I like (or just music I like but have no words for because it's so awesome), out into the dubya dots. Any time I get sent music that I like I "star" it in Gmail and then go back and listen to it a day later. If it's still as good as it was a day before then it [...]

Ahh, yes, Life Aquatic ; a fabulous movie filled with witty, dry humor. But what is often overlooked in that film, is Seu Jorge and his amazing acoustic music that is played throughout. Luckily, his musical career didn't end there, as he has gone on to record several albums, one of which is his latest collaboration with his band, Almaz. Along with the album they crafted, the band has been touring across the globe, including São Paulo where they threw down what looks like an epic performance. You can support Seu Jorge & Almaz's self-titled debut on [...]

I've really been playing this album on repeat throughout my whole set of exams which I feel very comfortable saying is now done. Seu Jorge, the Brazilian musician and actor did a great job at reimagining some of David Bowie's greatest songs. I'm a huge fan of Bowie's music over the years because its all just great and a great story telling session. I spoke about my absolute love for Wes Anderson's movies ad just this morning after hitting up a couple record stores for Record Store Day, i watched the Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou again and [...]

The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions Featuring Seu Jorge As sessões de Seu Jorge no filme The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou levaram a gravação de um álbum. Além de Bowie, The Life [...]

Seu Jorge - Tive Razão Os camaradas que aparecem no video são Bill Murray e Willem Dafoe. Eles trabalharam juntos em The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, filme dirigido por Wes Anderson (estou tentando ver todos os filmes dele, o próximo é Rushmore).
Yesterday, Montreal was teased by the short-lived presence of a familiar celestial figure. Personally, I was gettin' my tan on as I walked to school, coat slung over my right shoulder: there's nothing like the feeling of el sol toasting the back of your neck, all the while gleaming over a melting scenery left by months of snow and sub-zero temperatures. Brazilian airs whistled out of my lips, ecstatic to poke out of their hibernation. And then night came. Rain. [...]

The first thing I noticed about Seu Jorge's new project Seu Jorge and Almaz is how brilliantly the Portuguese artist uses the element of space. When you listen to this record their is definitely a room, or better yet an environment with all of these songs. The overall effect of the space leaves the music with a sort of outworldly/psychadelia/soulful ness that is as beautiful as it is intriguing. The smooth bass lines, sparse percussion, eerie guitar tones, and raw vocals each play their role without ever over extending their boundaries. The song "Everybody Loves the Sunshine" is a [...]

The last few weeks have been busy on my end, prompting us to stick to thematic posts and reposts. But the floodgates never close on the inbox passalongs and blogsources - and with almost three years of posts under our lifebelts, the rising tide of flotsam and jetsam falls easily into line with the water table. Looks like it's high time for another edition of our popular (Re)Covered series, featuring new and newly-discovered songs that bobbed to the surface just a little too late to make it into the original posts where [...]
