A new dynamism exists; one fueled by science and fired by revolution. One which has followed Futurism, Dadaism and Surrealism to a point where they must be left behind. Where they attempted to revolutionize "art" we must change life. We seek a form of action which transcends the separation between art and politics: it is [...]

This week's round up of the tracks I haven't had the space to post... The Maxines From: Olympia, Washington, United States Primale rock that sounds like it was created in the Cramps' garage. Go Try [...]

During the month of September I wrote what I believe to be an I Rock Cleveland record eleven record reviews. October started with a road trip to ATP and super cold. I'm still dealing with super cold (I haven't spent a full day at work since last Wednesday). In between a number of jams fell through the cracks. This is the first post of two that will showcase some of the finer jams that have yet to be featured here on I Rock Cleveland. Five years back, Chicago's Mannequin Men were making trashy, garage rock in [...]

Sex Church's debut record, Six Songs by Sex Church features some good, scuzzy psychedelic rock, littered with grit and obscured by reverb, with the right amount of danger and more than a bit of spit. It wouldn't sound out of place on Chicago's unstoppable Hozac Records, and in fact, they were recently featured in the label's latest round of Hookup Club Singles. Side one, track one, "Old Enough," especially, has a similar psycho-beach vibe as another Hozac Band, Woven Bones. Yet, the further you dig into this song, and the further you dig into Six Songs, the more you realize [...]

I was just reading about how the BP oil spill is going to result an a methane explosion that could cause the extinction of humanity . Oh boy. Here's the perfect tune to usher in the coming apocalypse. It's called "The Floor" and it comes from Vancouver's Sex Church . It's as peaceful as it is terrifying, with a simple three-chord progression that could pass for bubblegum pop if only it weren't seven minutes long and soaked in speaker-melting fuzz. Just like "Heroin" by the Velvet Underground , it makes complete destruction sound absolutely [...]

Sex Church, "Not Anymore"

I hope you are ready for a heaping spoonful of what I've been eating because that is what you'll get if you download the June mix - and trust me I eat very well now days. The June mix is chock full of the new stuff I've been listening to (except I left the National & Male Bonding off of it - and I can't get enough of High Violet especially) including Sex Church , Teen Daze , DOM , Rayon Beach, Hoodie Allen (a Single Serving to follow soon), [...]

British Columbia's psychedelic scuzz-rockers Sex Church are hard at work prepping their 6 track-debut EP. "Ghost" is the first track they've previewed from the EP, and it hits hard and sounds great. It opens with a catchy guitar melody before wading knee-deep in fuzz and cymbal-crashing percussion. It'll definitely appeal to fans of A Place to Bury Strangers as well as fans of lo-fi garage in general. They also have a 73 that will be released as part of Hozac' s new subscription service. Sex Church - Ghost Sex [...]
