Alexisonfire is all growed up. Unfortunately, I forgot to add their older albums in my iTunes rebuild, so I can't prove it to you. But they released their fourth full-length album, Old Crows/Young Cardinals , just a couple of weeks ago and in it I can hear mature sounds ranging from hardcore punk to newcore screamo. I even hear a bit of Tiger Army in there somewhere. That's a compliment. While these boys did hit the scene kicking ass and taking names, they've only gotten stronger in the 8 years since [...]
One of my favourite artist and people. Shad K. He is such a genuine person and artist and he's so engaging you really want to see him succeed. Maybe succeed isn't the right word because everyone has a different idea of what succeeding in this business means. He's simply an artist that needs to be heard. He has the capability to inspire. He's currently on the Warped Tour doing every single date.... visit his blog as he ventures into new cities. http://www.shadk.com/ Here's some eye candy. [...]
Almost two years after Canadian rapper Shadrach Kabango, aka Shad , shelled out The Old Prince , the 2008 Polaris Music Prize, Juno Awards, and Rap Recording of the Year nominated album masterpiece is finally getting some love in the States - about fucking time, right? Last week, Shad's sophomore effort received a proper U.S. release through Black Box Recordings/EMI and he will be spending the summer supporting it with a stint on the VANS Warped Tour . In celebration of this long overdue success, Shad has unveiled a brand new [...]

Today's a Thursday, that feels like a Friday (thanks to tomorrow being Good Friday - Good? When it ends the long weekend drought those of us without a holiday in February or March have just endured, they should call it Great Friday! Or is that the kind of thing that would upset religious types? On the other hand, what doesn't upset religious types? HI-O! Ok, digression time...), and if there's anything a Friday-ish Thursday afternoon needs, it's a healthy dose of Canadian music video content. What better place to start than with some Canadian hip [...]

Before packing our bags and heading back to the day-to-day grind that is real life, we were able to take in a couple more days of fun in the sun/overwhelming amounts of music/drunken record executives. Without further ado, the conclusion of our South by Southwest 2009 coverage: Friday, March 20th: It's hard to cover Friday without sounding self-aggrandizing, so bear with us. Truth be told, CoS had too much going on to really reach out to anything else. With our Brodown Hoedown party taking up the majority of [...]

( Girls @ Emo's ) Beautiful weather, beautiful sounds, and beautiful Southern ladies—those are the things I enjoyed the most about Friday, my second day at SXSW. After ping pong-ing around the previous day, I decided to pick one spot and stick to it all afternoon. Luckily the Pitchfork day party at Emo’s had enough great bands on the bill to keep me more than satisfied. The whole day was heavy on guitar distortion, with a large side of American Apparel. Seriously, if I would have worn oversize sunglasses and a V-neck tee with a plaid shirt over [...]

Frank Yang Considering that Friday afternoon was arguably one of the best blocks of music experiences I've ever had at SxSW, it figured that the karma pendulum would have to swing the other way sooner or later. As it happened, it was sooner. The official portion of the day started downstairs at Waves, a narrow little venue on 6th, where Shad was kicking things off. You can insert my standard "not really a hip-hop guy" disclaimer here, but I really grew to like his The Old Prince Still Lives [...]
Just because we're down in Austin, doesn't mean we'd forget about you - or your weekly mp3 fix. Below, we've compiled a special SXSW mixtape, chock full of goodies we think are pretty damn, well, neat. Of course, it wouldn't be a CoS influenced mixtape if it didn't have our personal favorites *ahem* who happen to play in our showcase *ahem*. That's not to say there aren't a few other artists outside our proverbial reach/influence, so take what you will. Also, we threw in a baker's dozen (and more!) of new singles, remixes, etc. Oh how we spoil [...]

More from that Canadian kid, Shad I posted on the other day . Very much more serious on this one. Listen, I like the G and ig'nant sh-t as much as the next guy, but I am co-signing the sentiment of this song 200%. Online: Shad - MySpace | Website
Some of you probably saw this months ago when it first came out. This is Canadian too but I can't even say "Tdot, stand up" 'cos homeboy's actually from London, Ontario, a college town a couple hours away from Toronto. So this is wild cheesy but at the same time, kind of genius (and very funny). It's basically a scene-by-scene remake of the opening to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air TV show. Dude can really rhyme though - he reminds me of Murs or some other backpack rappers whose music I don't really [...]
