The already impressive lineup for Seattle's fifteenth Capitol Hill Block Party just got a bit stronger with some final additions. Shad, Best Coast, Baths, the Head and the Heart, BFA, Kung Foo Grip, Dunes, Cold Showers, and Grand Hallway have been chosen to round out the three-day festival scheduled for July 22-24. They will join the likes of Explosions in the Sky, TV on the Radio, Thurston Moore, and Fucked Up. Discounted three-day passes, which are $75, are still available while other ticket choices go on sale soon. The $27.50 [...]
Photo by Annie Collinge Hi everyone, this is my first blog as a member of the Loose Lips family so I’ll give you a quick bio about myself so I’m not just some random words on a web page. First off, my name’s Sean, I’m from Toronto (Canada, I think there’s at least one other city by that name in the U.S.), so if you’re wondering why I spell colour with an ‘ou’ – now you know. I’m in my early
Filed under: News , Awards , Television Redferns | Getty Images Weeks of anticipation, thousands of adjectives like "better" and "incredible" tossed around endlessly, several pre-taped acceptance speeches where artists are "surprised," and dozens of "special presentation" reruns to follow. Yes, the 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards are upon us. Arcade Fire , Metric , Drake and Justin Bieber have been nominated in multiple MMVA categories [...]

Toronto - Last week was a big week for several print publications - there was the re-branding of Eye Weekly as The Grid and Canadian publication Exclaim! magazine celebrated their 15th anniversary at the Wrongbar on Thursday with two of the hottest acts in Canada - Montreal's newly minted electro act Miracle Fortress and London rapper Shad . As you may have deduced by now, we were there on Thursday night. Armed with drummer Greg Napier at his side, Miracle Fortress had the pleasure of opening the night to a [...]

Frank Yang There's not a lot of cross-Canada tours that skip over Toronto, but the Exclaim -sponsored country-wide trek headlined by Shad , and for this leg also featuring fellow Polaris shortlist alumni Miracle Fortress , looked to be doing just that with Thursday night's show at Wrongbar presented as a private show, attended by contest winners and attendees of Exclaim's 19th anniversary party which went before the show. But it's not as though either artist had been strangers hereabouts lately - both [...]

When a music publication hits the fifteen year mark, it's a big deal. So what better way to celebrate than to throw a party and have two of Canada's hottest up and coming acts to perform? That's what Exclaim! did on Thursday night at Wrongbar . Gracing the cover of this month's issue, it's really no surprise that one act would be Miracle Fortress. Probably best known for versatility in their performance, it's very hard to know what to expect whenever you see a Miracle Fortress show. It could just be singer [...]

Toronto - After impressing many people with his new material at Canadian Music Week, Montreal's Alex Van Pelt aka Miracle Fortress is back and hoping to carry forth that momentum with a series of cross continent tours. The first tour will see him teaming up with the Canadian rapper du jour - Shad for the Exclaim ! Anniversary Tour. The second leg of his journey will see him team up with fellow Canadian electro rockers Junior Boys. Miracle Fortress's new album, Was I The Wave? comes out in May. The dude actually acted [...]

East Vancouver’s Shad and Miracle Fortress came out to Saturday to represent at Fortune Sound Club. A nominee for 2007 Polaris Music Prize, Miracle Fortress is another one of Secret City Record’s gems. Explained as “bedroom club,” their indie pop sound is highly versatile, delivering heavy tech sounds and plenty of reverb. Most of the kids I chatted to post show had no idea who Miracle Fortress were before tonight - but every single one of ‘em said they would check the band out [...]

Most fans won't turn up for a Saturday night show in NYC until around 11 or 12 to catch the main act, but on April 16, that norm didn't hold true. Canadian rap artist, Shad drew a sizeable crowd to Webster Hall's covert side-space The Studio this past Saturday even before the clock struck 9PM. The seemingly underground venue was the perfect setting for an underground rap artist to do his thing – though the way Shad moved during his performance, it was obvious he could have conquered a much larger stage. [...]

Bruce Peninsula By rights, we should have seen a new record from Toronto's Bruce Peninsula ages ago. Their 2009 debut A Mountain Is A Mouth seemed a long time in coming from when the choral gospel-blues-folk collective began dropping jaws with their live shows, but after its release the band was everywhere and it seemed there was no slowing the momentum behind them. But life, as it is wont to do, threw a curveball and in late 2010, after their second album had been recorded and they [...]

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis at The FADER Fort @ SXSW (03/17/11) Photo : Jon Klemm After bouncing around the Seattle scene for more than ten years, things seem to finally be happening now for Macklemore and Ryan Lewis . The hip-hop duo recently played three sold out shows in their hometown and performed at the Mariner's 2011 Opening Day ceremonies on April 8 (thank you Wikipedia). The band is in the midst of a small tour with Juno winning Canadian rapper Shad (aka Shadrach [...]
All new hip-hop compilation this week and we're excited to bring it to you. First up, the Cunninlynguists are fresh off their new release Oneirology and sport an awesome symphonic orchestra sample on the song Lynguistics, while The Bloody Beetroots remixed a banger by Wu Tang Clan. I included a slightly lesser known Childish Gambino track that has some excellent vocal-effect rapping, and threw in a new Shad song with a hot motown sample. There's also a great Ratatat mashup and newer Jay-Z verse on Sade's remix of The Moon and the Sky. Enjoy some of the most [...]
