Selena Gomez would really, really, really like you to know that she has really shed her Disney roots. If you couldn't tell by those pics of the bikini-clad pop star that routinely emerge from the set of Spring Breakers , or the fact that the Scene frontwoman has landed herself on this year's Maxim Hot 100 list (way ahead of Rihanna , we might add), Sel has yet another example. She's taken part in Funny Or Die's Fifty Shades Of Grey parody, Fifty Shades Of [...]

Monday Music's the one weekly post wherein Some Of It Was True! drops its London-only rule. Due to technical difficulties, this is being posted on Tuesday. Apologies for any inconvenience, or concern, caused. Ab-Soul - Terrorist Threats (ft. Danny Brown and Jhene Aiko) The rapper born with a silver spoon in his mouth (well, he's not from 'da hood'), struggling to struggle, but nonetheless receiving kudos from the hip hop industry. The backing is reminiscent of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, while [...]
Here's a great account from TesseracT guitarist, James Monteith about why he feels strongly about Record Store Day. He's in a band so is actually naturally part of RSD every single day. It's also a great way for us to brag about what we got from Record Store Day last year. Another blog within a month? No way. Well I pulled my finger out for this one as it's Record Store Day this weekend, and it was something I felt I should comment on. [...]
![[Listen/Download] Shade- Tried Too Hard](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4084157_lg.jpg)
by teepoo Shade released her album One Last Show Of Hearts last November. It was recorded in winter months and you can hear that in it's grittiness. Tried Too Hard doesn't have a ton going on, but does it have to be? No. The very repetitive drum and bass lines are fitting. In a song about trying too hard, the music reflects the opposite with a sense of laziness that is very purposeful. Shade- Tried Too Hard

Shades: Clear Motions - Shades are a 4-member band from Boise, ID. Taking inspiration from chill wave artists like Small Black and Washed Out , Shades make their strong debut on Synthemesc . While chill wave is still in it's infancy, there's always going to be room for someone with a new perspective. But, while Shades' style can be compared to the aforementioned bands, they do manage to establish a distinct sound and vision that set themselves apart... [...]

2011 gave us the lush sound of Boise, Idaho's, Youth Lagoon. 2012 gives us a similar sound out of Boise, Idaho, titled Hypno Safari. Hypno Safari actually consist of Trevor Powers' (Youth Lagoon) friend and bassist, Logan Hyde. Taking a few long listens at the two songs 'Shade' and 'Home' that I could find online, I was amazed at the fuzzed out surfer pop sound and it only fueled Hyde's mystic to me. Hyde's sound is about as honest as you can find as it hooks you in with the big guitar riffs and his hypnotizing [...]

Hypno Safari - Shade you told me you believed in me, no i just need some of that hope, you have so much Boise seems to have a knack for producing honest musicians. Logan Hyde just sent me over his project Hypno Safari . And it's just that, honest. Logan works with what he has, and does a lot with a little. He keeps things simple. And I think that's why when this track picks up, it's nearly [...]

The Mary Onettes have been writing some of my favorite pop records over the last few years and recently they announced they'd be releasing another by the end of this month. However, Love Forever will be the first time they're reportedly ditching their 80s guitars and echoey vocals in favor of more avant-garde themes. New directions may not always be welcomed at first, but we'll see how well they're able to execute it as a whole. In the meantime, enjoy. Love's Taking Strange Ways [...]

Phlo is killing it! I see my extended 3|4 family well represented in here: Casa & Ayinde vibing, Nieko as the romantic interest in the ill GAP hoodie, & King Mike G catching vapors. Wondering if there's bonus footage of the homeys Stoveman, Waffle & Jay Curry's Mustache. The track was produced by T-Wiz , who has worked with Ciara, Chris Brown & Backstreet Boys. Sounds like if Timbaland didn't get all weird and Aaliyah wasn't taken from us. Hit the jump to stream Phlo's [...]
Shade is Jane Gowan who's music has a lovely warm tone and a bit of a vintage feel to it. Her album One Last Show of Hearts is perfect for the coming winter as it was recorded on a series of Sundays in the winter months. Through the album she ponders about the victories, the defeats, the way home in life. Her music is produced and also backed by Tim Vesely. Shade- False Start Bandcamp
Singer/songwriter/multi-instru mentalist Jane Gowan moved to Toronto from Vancouver in 2006 and formed Shade with bassist Mary Harmer (Weeping Tile) and drummer Cam Giroux (Oh Susannah, Violet Archers, Holly McNarland). Along the way, Shade picked up part-time band member and producer Tim Vesely of Rheostatics and Violet Archers, and put out last year's Highway LP. For the new EP, One Last Show of Hearts , Vesley returned to the producer's chair, but in lieu of the whole band contributing, Gowan and Vesley worked on the new songs alone on a "series [...]

so my homey shot me this video asking if this dude @ the 3 min mark was me. I have to admit, he does look a lot like me.. What does this mean? Do I have a twin brother out there? Should I save him from wasting his fucking life away complaining to no one at the #occupy movements? I figured it would be a good opportunity to post some rare pix of young trees, every few months I like to self-ether myself. Like I did with this classic Method Man / GZA picture post [...]

Even as MP3 storage capability grows exponentially, the space available for bands that hint at Belle & Sebastian, The Velvets or (in a more modern spin) John Roderick becomes more exclusive. Music fans surround their choices with velvet ropes, refusing entry to intelligent, gritty, vintage pop and tasteful arrangements but openly welcome next-blog-things dubstep, witch house and horrible rape friendly horror raps acts for their 15-minutes of fame (you've all moved on from Odd Future right?). Thankfully, there are still artists like Jane Gowan who refuse to stop fighting the good fight. She [...]

Phlo Finister | "Shades" by 3qtr That new Phlo Finister . Yes! Sounds like new digital Timbo & Nelly Furtado slap. Be sure to @PhloFinister and expect to see a lot more from this promising artist on here. Shout to 3qtr for keeping it wavy. drink the kool aid:

Pro's : The overall feel for this video was dope. The camera man did a great job filming, editing, and throwing the effects in. There's not a doubt that Dave Raps can spit some heat over Drake 's Trust Issues . Con's: I was really feeling the vibe of this video up until the 3:25 minute mark. I understand Drizzy is a rapper slash singer but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to be as well. The video was solid up until the singing came in. [...]

Are ringing in the debut release for brand new label Reckless Republic , curated by Murat Killic - a staple of the Sydney deep house circuit and accomplished knob twiddler in his own right . All-over-it Melbournian and Melbourne Deep Cast alum makes the hardest impact.
