For this weeks throwback playlist, I gathered a bunch of songs that come from my high school days and are still sung out loud to this day without ever really listening to them. Now that I'm hearing them again, it's almost embarrassing. But you gotta take some risks, right? MP3 :: H2O - 5 Yr. Plan MP3 :: Snapcase - Caboose MP3 :: Boy Sets Fire - Rookie MP3 :: One King Down - Defiance MP3 :: [...]
by theseseans (NYC)This week is ripe with metal in NYC. Tonight at Fontana's you can catch Crustcake favorites Howl for free. Free? Free. As if that wasn't awesome enough, Tonesofdeath.com will be giving out free Colt 45! Delicious. Sunday night the North America Is Doomed tour comes through Webster Hall, while half of Converge shows up to Union Pool in the form of Doomriders and Acid Tiger. Next
:: The vinyl reissue of Brandtson's Dial In Sounds is now available from Dreamover Records . :: Sometimes band members argue. Sometimes they fight. And sometimes they're arrested for allegedly making death threats against one another. :: The biopic about Tupac Shakur could be on some shaky legal ground . :: The BRIT Awards happened. Yawn. :: O'Death recently joined We Vs. The Shark on stage. And Music Slut has a nice photo . [...]
Before I even start let it be known that I hate New Found Glory. Not only are they a shitty pop-punk band but they're responsible for ruining one of my favorite bands when I was a teenager - that band was Shai Hulud. You see when Shai started they had a young whipper snapper on the mic named Chad Gilbert. Dude was beyond amazing - he had deep poetic lyrics and a monster of a voice. Then something

Hertfordshire, UK is quite the hardcore hotbed, don't ya know. We got Sikth, Cry For Silence, Gallows AND Enter Shikari. Now we have Your Demise as well. We had a chat with vocalist, George Noble . What was your highlight of 2008? Touring with Comeback Kid and Shai Hulud with a week's notice was outrageous. What's the worst thing that happened to you in 2008? [...]
Ultra-technical hardcore troupe, Misery Signals released their third album in 2008. We spoke to Stuart Ross about playing guitar and headbanging with the Milwaukee natives whilst planning a trip to Fuck City for New Year's. What was your highlight of 2008? My personal highlight of 2008 was the Through The Noise tour with Misery Signals, Comeback Kid , Bane, Shai Hulud, Outbreak and Grave Maker. It was such a great time having a handful [...]

First off, I just want to say that my musical taste varies dramatically. I'm listening to Kiss Kiss by Chris Brown right now. Yes, I just admitted that. Well, with that being said, here goes my first ever written-out, share-with-the-world top 10 album list. 10. Sea Of Treachery - At Daggers Drawn They have a new vocalist on this album that I enjoy a lot better than the last. Their live show sold me as well. 9. Slipknot [...]

What a year this was, right? Oil goes way up then goes way down, America elects a half-white guy for the presidency, and OJ is finally receives a prison sentence. This was a good year for me in terms of the harder offerings. In 2007 I kinda had to do the ice-cream-genre-barrel-scrape- around because a lot of metallish releases didn't hit the sweet spot. While that sounds like a personal problem, keep in mind that this is music we're talking about; it can't be anything but personal. I used to make fun of my middle-school friend's little [...]
Those of you who are the praying type, please send up a request of bodily protection as I attend the Progressive Damnation tour stop tomorrow. I ask this not only because of the recent snowy weather, but also because Club Octane can become cramped and hot: not a good combo when metal or hardcore are involved. Thought it's a bit weird Shai Hulud isn't headlining, but that's the way these things go sometimes. Born of Osiris and After the Burial [...]
A late pass review is a review of media that has been out for a significant amount of time. While your hipster friends may have already sampled the media, blogged about it and already started in on their backlash and even further have already made it ironic to be into it, I'm just now writing [...]

Comeback Kid will be touring Canada in October with Misery Signals , Bane , Shai Hulud , Outbreak , and Grave Maker . I spoke with guitarist Jeremy Hiebert about the tour, the bands and his favorite album of '08. What's the band's relationship with the other bands on the tour? We have either toured with, or done some dates with all but one of the bands on this bill and have known pretty much all of the bands for some time now. Its [...]

Dallas Coyle a prophet? Maybe not - but his prediction that myriad summer tours would be canceled this year because of the prohibitively high price of gasoline has proven true. Day after day I see tour cancellation announcements dropping into the MetalSucks Mansion inbox and RSS reader, most recently the "Summer of Scum" tour with Shai Hulud and Full Blown Chaos. Inevitably these press releases include vague language such as "uncontrollable circumstances" or issues "out of our hands," which is not-so-secret code speak for financial issues, aka gas money. If respectable, successful bands like Shai Hulud and Full [...]
It was a warm day with cool winds July 12, but inside the Heirloom Arts Theatre in Danbury, CT - filled with well over 400 fans, friends, and family - the atmosphere more resembled an enclosed swamp than the old warehouse/factory it once was. It was the night of Life In Your Way's farewell show, and aside from the PA system issues and a willfully unprofessional soundman (both provided by the venue), the bittersweet proceedings were the very stuff of summer nights. [...]
Even though I've anxiously waited the past five years for the return of Shai Hulud, I could never have imagined that it would be this good. Misanthropy Pure is full of everything that made us all love the former incarnations of Shai Hulud; heavy crushing guitar riffs, dizzying tempo shifts, and intricate melodies that always seem surprising considering the brutal nature of what surrounds them. I loved Shai Hulud's 2003 album That Within Blood Ill-Tempered especially the underlying melodicism of that album and Geert Van Der Velde's vocals. It tempered [...]
