We had a blast on our first journey into the depths of SXSW, and here's a few pics to document the times had. Had a few battery/illness issues that prevented my camera/me from encompassing everything, but I can assure you that good times were had by all. BIG BIG BIG thanks to all of the bands that played this event and to all you that came out to join us. Next year... weekend [...]

If you're going to SXSW, send me a postcard. To everyone else, enjoy a few less music nerds in your hood. For the time being. [photo] One of the groups we're most psyched about seeing next week at SXSW is Austin's own thoroughly bewitching girl-gang, SLEEP ∞ OVER. We mentioned their dark and beautiful "Your World is Night" a while back, and gorgeous new jam "Sunspots" is an even better woozy, haunted lullaby that sounds a bit like Grouper chopped & screwed: mp3: SLEEP ∞ OVER :: sunspots ****** SLEEP ∞ OVER's... click through for more...

So we now complete the "trifecta" having a video , flyer and a sick compilation of some of the bands playing our showcase. Kudos to Andy from Woven Bones for the flyer and Ian at Friendship Bracelet for putting these comps together (which, by the way, will be handed out physically to the early arrivals). Not that our party is "RSVP required", but if you'd like to let us know you're coming feel free to add your name to the list ! Click the jump for links to download and a complete tracklist. [...]

Shake Some Action! - Stand and Deliver mp3This is the 4th song from Seattle band's 3rd LP. This is a shameless abuse of my power as former Seattle Powerpop Blog owner. SPB is still dead. But, I did want to come here to share a note that we in Shake Some Action! are recording our third record (via cross-country collaboration), blogging about the entire process and releasing each song as a free download upon its completion. There are two songs already out there. So, head on over and let us know what you think. Gary p.s. quick secondary note that I'm going to be making a trip up [...]
For my money, the Stones' brand of booze-soaked blues and roll was perfected not by a group of British lads, but rather by a kick-ass cult band out of San Francisco called the Flamin' Groovies.
Phew -- so glad I got that off my chest. Bring on the new music in the new year! read more
Did powerpop ever really go out of style, or come to think of it, was it ever in style? It seems like music history is littered with great bands and songwriters too numerous to mention, that wrote short catchy juiced-up songs that should have been hits. The two bands with killer [...]
