I'll give this video from Connecticut/NYC foursome Shake The Baron credit for trying something a little different. What do love, music and a man with an ugly head wound have to do with one another? This clip for "Crazy Align" attempts to answer that question, among other things. Directed by Ricky Shabazz (Nicolas Heller) and [...]

Shake The Baron's new album is called Ghost Hits and is released on June 12th via Super Duper Records . It is a true rock album that is simultaneously bursting with jangly energy and shimmering, clean precision. Lyrically, it’s honest and sometimes dark with classic themes of lost love, false friendships, and the confusion of existence. But musically speaking, the songs are joyous, with ambitious guitar-driven arrangements and big stadium-rock drums. Want proof? Three songs to grab below. The effortlessly contagious Crazy Align is our favourite. Download Shake [...]

After forming four years ago at Connecticut College in New London, CT, Shake The Baron relocated to New York. They’ve found a welcome home in Brooklyn, where they’ve begun a new and promising chapter. Ghost Hits is a collaborative effort that was self-recorded and self-produced, with help from the band’s studio-savvy friends. The album was recorded in several locations in New York, from the band’s own basement studio, to the Gallery Recording Studio in Brooklyn, to DNA Downtown in Manhattan. Shake the Baron will proudly release Ghost Hits [...]

I'm going to make this blanket statement; Shake the Baron is the best thing to come out of Connecticut College. Since I don't know anyone or anything (except in fact it is in Connecticut) about the college this statement becomes fact especially after hearing the release of their self-titled debut. The indie rock band, currently based in Brooklyn, is composed of guitarist/vocalist Andrew Oedel, drummer Matt Addison, and bassist Max Currier and produced by Super Duper Records. The album starts with the song "Tree House". From the first lyric of Oedel, it is hard [...]

Shake The Baron , from Connecticut, make soaring pop that was meant to be released in the early 20002s - their songs hold much of what we've been dearly lacking in music throughout these past couple years. It's, dare I say it, lighthearted . Old school (...like, a few years ago) kicking guitars and melodic vocals drive Shake The Baron's sound. Check out "Zodiak Name", the promo mp3 off their self titled debut, which dropped in October via Super Duper Records . Shake The Baron - "Zodiak Name" [MP3] [...]
It's good to know that talented bands can take a familiar formula and shape it into something new and refreshing. The pieces that Shake The Baron use to create their music - namely, two guitars, bass and drums - are tried and true, but can also be trite. However, mix in the group's talent for [...]
A rather mixed bag of songs but these are among the best I've recently found in the mailbox... + Crushed Stars – Eyeliner + Shake The Baron – Zodiak + The Dark Clan & Null Device – Fading Belief + Matt Longo – The High Life [...]

Introducing Brooklyn/Connecticut indierockers Shake The Baron . Tipped off by/thx to Pigeons And Planes . Their self-titled album is out now on Super Duper Records . These cats play many of the right chords, strike many a hearty melody and are webbed into a curious mish-mosh vibe of Weezer/Shins/VMPWKD. Dig in. Video:
Sometimes it's hard to define "indie rock". To some, it means independent rock, and it is limited to bands that aren't on major labels. To others, it's simply a sound, and has nothing to do with being independent. So you've got these independent rock bands running around making arena rock, then you've got these major label artists sounding like a scruffy garage band from Brooklyn - it all gets very confusing. Thankfully, there are still bands like Shake The Baron. Shake the Baron has all the elements of an indie band - they're independent (on Super Duper Records), [...]

Shake the Baron - the most rowdy, floor-stomping songsmiths ever to emerge from Connecticut - just released their self-titled debut. Expect rabble-rousing guitar pop that pins soaring vocal hooks atop a wash of chorus-infused guitars and enormous rock beats. Zombie Name is instantly likable, and lovable starting at the :36 mark. Almost like hearing a song you've enjoyed before but then realizing the familiarity is that of loving a good melody. MP3: Zodiac Name by Shake The Baron [...]
