Former Vinyl Devotion frontwoman Shalini has followed up 20082s The Surface And The Shine with the Magnetic North EP (Paisley Pop). It's a six-track stop-gap as the singer/guitarist works on her upcoming full-length in her new hometown of Chicago. As always, pop of the power persuasion is the first and last order of business for Shalini, [...]

[Quotes stricken by WGAE President Michael Winship. He did allow me to replace them with a picture of a hot cup of tea, which you can see below.] UPDATE: I just cleared one quote (thanks, Worldwide Pants Incorporated !): "It's Jesus' birthday, but the tea is still too hot." -- Seth Galifianakis [ TBSOWFMU - 12/25/07 [...]
The family that plays together. . . When I have to be brief I'm never sure whether to apologize or say, "You're welcome," but it's post and run this time, or rather, crawl to sleep. Let's spin a few on the distaff. I've posted two songs previously by both Tralala and Shalini , so you can click on the names to refresh or inject your memory. The affecting voices of Tegan and Sara have given me pleasure for a couple of years now, while I blushingly confess to only just having found Angie Heaton , formerly of Corndolly , Liquorette , and Tractor Kings . Tegan and Sara are pictured to the left. Again, clicking artist names below will [...]

Earlier this month I held off posting these two songs involving primo performer/producer Mitch Easter because 3hive diligently got to them first. A decent interval has long since passed, though, so here they are here. Background information can be found at my previous post and the links provided. Easter's new album, Dynamico , is due for release next month. Mitch Easter - Dynamico - [...]

Ouch, I wish I'd gotten there first. I was at Mitch Easter's new MySpace site a couple of months ago, but in the meantime, exciting developments have transpired, and 3hive nailed them. I will therefore exercise proper restraint. I'd like to post all three songs available, but for now will limit myself to one and encourage you to visit 3hive for the rest. I do want all three in that Streampad thingy to the right, though, so in the fairly near future, I'm going to add the others. [...]

I recently rekindled a new friendship after googling an old friend. Except this wasn't a friend from high school or college, it was a friend from the old hi-fi: Mitch Easter. Mitch Easter gained recognition for his production skills in the early '80s producing R.E.M.'s first single, "Radio Free Europe," and their first two LPs with Don Dixon. And thinking back to my own history as a music fan I don't remember which came first for me, R.E.M. or Mitch's band Let's Active. I do remember that Let's Active played a key role in formulating my taste for pop music. [...]
The last time I wrote about the annual local festival Sparklefest, it seemed to be showcasing a fairly coherent style of music, which (depite some protests) might as well be called power pop, in particular melodic garage rock kind of stuff. A quick glance at this year's lineup seems far less cohesive, at least among the groups that I'm familiar with. I think the best way to sum up the theme
