Oi! Oi! Oi! With a roster that includes such Boston street punk bands as The Dropkick Murphys and Streetdogs , it only seems fitting that Taang! should have The Business kicking around their digs also. So as we wind up our weeklong look into the depths of the Taang! roster, it's time to feed Saturdays Heroes into the player, grab a pint, round up the mates, and head out looking for trouble. For those who don't know, The Business first raised hell on the streets of [...]
In the belated second part of the 1978 instalment in this series (in which I revisit songs that have the capacity to take me back to the time when they were hits), the 12-year-old version of Any Major Dude shows himself to be an eclectic sort. In the first part, which covered the first three months of 1978, we became reacquainted with Blondie’s X-Offender and songs by the likes of Uriah Heep, Bonnie Tyler, Tom Robinson Band, Sex Pistols, Wings and The Stranglers. Here we revisit Blondie, Sham 69, Boomtown Rats, a couple of Italians, and some prog-rockers. [...]
Penny, pointing the way as usual ... Lee Hazlewood / Nancy Sinatra - "Some Velvet Morning" I realized the other day that I've written scant little about being a dad and all that. I guess I always figured those blogs are boring as SHIT. I don't read any of those blogs, is what I mean, and so I wouldn't expect that anyone else would want to read anything I'D have to [...]
This week's Silly Sunday isn't a cartoon, computer game or anything like that - it's an actual tune. And yes, it's also an ACTUAL tune. I was gonna save it for a bank holiday, but there are none left this year F.F.S! I was reminded of 'Hurry Up Harry' by an advert for a TV program about Britain's binge drinking youth and have been singing it around my house ever since (pretty much pissing my housemates off along the way). What I ADORE about this tune is its pure unadulterated Laaaandaaaan (London) cockneyness. It's not just their brilliant [...]
Another one of those bothersome international breaks, so time for me to wheel out some related material. - Starting with England who's fan (may or may not) will try to break the internets this coming Saturday with the away match against the Ukraine, then fall asleep in front of the telly the following Wednesday evening whilst Belarus slip one past the dozing defence. England have already put qualification to bed last month but there will still be people who'll keep one eye on these matches - especially the tabloid headline writers who will rub their [...]
I am currently writing in agony due to the stupid hubris that entailed me playing in a company softball game that has re-injured my back . I should have known better, as I have herniated disks and I was sore during warm-ups. But instead of course, I figured it would loosen up and proceeded to play extremely hard for the full game, diving and sliding on several occasions. So, the past three days have been a steady procession of severe agony followed by pain pills which have left me somewhere orbiting the planet "head-nod". [...]

Do you still listen to the music you loved in high school? Lately, I'm beginning to feel that the worse the news gets, the more us 30 and 40 somethings retreat into our past, into the music we cut our teeth on during the last great economic downturn. Every semi serious music lover experiences changes in their musical taste as they become exposed to more and different kinds of genres. Part of blogging about music, for me, is looking back on how I received new music at different points in my life and comparing those memories to how [...]

Friday is Kinda Tardy, Sorry
Blech, it's late and I am only just sitting down at my desk, so apologies for being a little behind on things. I didn't sleep in or anything, I promise, I've just been running around like a blue-arsed fly doing assorted domestic shit. Mrs. Toad kindly reminded me that, as well as a record label and a bunch of bands, I also happen to have a wife so this weekend I might make a bit of an effort to be a slightly more attentive husband that I might have been recently. Apart from recording with Dolfinz on Saturday [...]

20 Singers Who Rock a Fake Accent
Filed under: The Hit List Rock is all about selling a persona, and sometimes you have to change more than just your haircut. Whether it's to seem more "real," to appeal to bigger audiences or just for fun, musicians have been rocking altered accents for ages. Here are some of our favorite fakers of dubious dialects. Shania Twain It's a scientific fact that Canadians are virtually indistinguishable from Americans [...]

Still Truckin'?
I have been strangely ambivalent about the upcoming Dead tour. As a vet of hundreds of Grateful Dead and assorted line-up shows; my interest should be higher than it is. Initially, when The Dead announced that tickets (except for behind stage) would be in the environs of $100 a pop, I was disgusted. $100? When did Jerry and Pigpen re-join? I understand that the boys are getting older, and their 401K's probably tanked like the rest of ours did, but jeez... a hundred clams for what was being passed off [...]
