Stoned & Dethroned , the fifth album from The Jesus and Mary Chain has seen several CD reissues in recent years, but on March 6th the album will be available again on vinyl for the first time since its initial release in 1994. While mellower than previous albums, Stoned & Dethroned is still an incredible record, and features appearances from Shane MacGowan of The Pogues and Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star . The album is available to preorder from Midheaven for $16.

Way back at the end of 2009 we [ Swear I'm Not Paul & ourselves] chose Candice Gordon as one of our tips for success in 2010. Fast forward to now and Candice has recorded her debut album with Shane MacGowan and needs a little help from you guys to help with the physical production of the albums: Here's the title track from the album: Before the Sunset Ends by Candice Gordon [...]

There are many many great bands that I'd say are truly Irish and tons of no name heroes who play the traditional stuff in pubs around world. Obviously there's U2 but just as important to me are The Pogues and The Frames . Both of these bands embody some pretty stunning lyrics and music that really captures this culture of travelers along with the spirited charm of the Irish. Lets not forget songs about the green beer. I remember seeing Glen Hansard the singer for The Frames play [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Daniel Boczarski, Redferns Tin whistler Peter "Spider" Stacy has a saying: "If it ain't on the list, it don't exist." He used it several times Tuesday night at New York City's Terminal 5, shooting down requests for songs he and his longtime band, the Pogues , weren't about to play. "We have to follow the schedule," he said at one point, "otherwise it all goes to pot." [...]

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy St Patrick's Day. My own name is Pat, my late father's was Paddy and my youngest nephew is called Patrick. So, here are a few songs from Irish singers about Pats, Paddys and Patricks as well as one "sung" by a Pat. I'm [...]
Shane and friends gather to raise money for Haitian relief.
As group singalong singles go, you've got to prefer the news that Shane McGowan has put together a bellowy cover of Screamin' Jay Hawkins to raise money for Haiti: The song is set to include Nick Cave, Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie, the Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde, the Clash's Mick Jones, the Sex Pistols' Glen Matlock, and singer Paloma Faith. Johnny Depp is also going to be involved, playing guitar. It won't sell in anything like as many numbers as Cowell's tune, but at least there's no message .

Easter has arrived again and tomorrow is Good Friday, also known as Great Friday or Black Friday. From midnight tonight until just before lunchtime on Saturday the sale of alcohol in public houses, supermarkets and off licences is not pernitted in the Republic of Ireland. Apparently, it will be possible to buy drinks on trains and at train stations with a bar, although you will need to produce a valid rail ticket as proof of travel. A small price to pay, surely. Not only that, but most supermarkets and off licenses will be extremely busy tonight as people stock up [...]

With The Pogues , who gave their only Florida performance Saturday night at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater , there is always a bit a magic to be found amidst the spilled beer and cigarette butts. In years past, that magic grew out of the boisterous and intoxicating mix of Irish folk music and beer-spitting punk. More often than not, that allure comes from the misty brilliance of the Pogues' frontman, Shane McGowan . However, to talk about The Pogues, you [...]
Firstborn Is Dead Recordings Nick Cave is obsessed by it. Shane MacGowan appears immune to it. Johnny Cash's fascination with death and mortality came to define his legend and followed him, fittingly, all the way to the grave. Death, too, is a lingering theme through 100 Midnights, the second full-length record from Dubliner the Mighty Stef (né Stefan Murphy). Keeping with a macabre theme, 100 Midnights follows the release last May of the Death Threats EP , a mostly acoustic effort. That EP marked the last ever recorded performance of Ronnie [...]

Some hotels will pop extras in the rooms of their regular customers. Not if the guest is Shane McGowan, though. To save him time at check-out, anything breakable is being taken out of his room in the Malmaison , as last time it took quite a while to tot up the cost of damage he'd done. Forewarned is forearmed, and so on. music shane mcgowan
