Leeds UK producer Debian impresses again with soulful space garage of his new remix for Mt. Wolf. The original track for "Shapeshifter", a slow-grooved alt-R&B-ref'ing bit of indie pop, is nice enough for sure; here, though Debian completely flips the total complexion and feel of the song switching in a unique & slightly vibed interpreation of the current UK garage sound without turning the track into some sort of cliche. Very well done. Debian Blak ( Soundcloud ) Rating 8.4

South London quartet Mt Wolf release their Hypolight EP in one week. We've already heard the gorgeously beautiful abd beautifully gorgeous 'Shapeshift' and 'Hypolight', and now comes another dark, atmospheric slice of post-xx indie. Like most of their output, 'Veins' is a slow-burn. It unveils its joys slowly. It is you-come-to-me. Again, it focuses on Kate Sproule's warm, delicate vocal and the echoing, haunting guitar which accompanies glitchy beats. Keep your eyes here as we'll have our EP review up very soon. But for now, enjoy 'Veins' below.

I love me some Opiuo . I don't think we've featured him before but it's never too late to get introduced. Opiou is a one man electronic wrecking machine hailing from Melbourne, Australia. If you like The Glitch Mob, Gramatik, or the sounds of C2C, you're going to love this dude. He is an absolute magician when it comes to producing and remixing songs into full fledged electro-glitch-funk bangers. I've yet to hear anything he's touched that I didn't love, and his latest remix of DangerDoom 's "Benzie Box" is no different. MF Doom 's lyrical genius is [...]

Every Sunday, every week we'll be racapping the five must-hear songs from the last seven days. Let's do it: 1. Vampire Weekend - Diane Young "Vampire Weekend’s forthcoming third studio album Modern Vampires Of The City is due for release via XL Recordings on May 6, and in preperation the group have streamed two brand spanking new songs from it. Set for release as a double A side, ‘Diane Young’ and ‘Step’ are both utterly fantastic. The former has the [...]

We got tonnes of love for Mt Wolf. Having been blown away by their recent sold out show at London's XOYO as well as the gorgeous recent single 'Hypolight', which comes across as a mix of The xx’s intimacy and the beauty of ‘A+E’-era Goldfrapp. Now the group have released a video for another track off their upcoming Hypolight EP, the equally beautiful 'Shapeshift'. Stylishly presented across an entirely black and white video, the track is another haunting, glitchy, beat-orientated slab of 2013 indie. The band continue to showcase their live show, and are supporting XXYYXX [...]

It's amazing how much can change in just a year. When I last wrote about Mt. Wolf , they had just a couple of promising demo tracks to their name. Give "Life Size Ghosts" a new coat of paint and some mastering, and the band earns themselves a great big fanbase. It's very deserved, Mt. Wolf's music is downright gorgeous. "Shapeshift" is latest release from the band, and it continues to support their self-described sound, dream folk. A playful instrumental backdrop creates a mood that tiptoes between sounding [...]

We were pretty blown away by Phantom , the late 2012 mixtape from St. Louis youngster Chester Watson. From his production to his slick rhymes, the kid sounded like he'd been working on his craft since birth. And as he works on his further honing his skills, Watson is looking back to Phantom for his latest set of visuals. They're for "Shapeshifter", an equally psychedelic and dexterous cut that's complemented perfectly here. MF DOOM would definitely be proud. You can watch the video below.
At first glance of this post's title, you may have thought we've lost our minds. However, we assure you that this post is completely intended! We haven't lost our minds. That we know of. We think you'll agree that music and writing go together- if those things weren't linked, you would be rifling through some list of MP32s on the net for new tracks and Music Ninja wouldn't be the success it is today. We feel that you appreciate our insight which is why we love to blend these two things together. With that [...]

We're very excited to announce the immediate release of Maryland-based artist Chooky's new single "Shapeshifter" fea turing the vocal work of Carly Burns. Shapeshifter is a festival-sized anthem with a huge sound, thick basslines that will rattle your jaw, and beautiful vocal work and lyrics from Carly Burns. As in the past we're giving this tune away for free on Soundcloud today with the WAV and more on Beatport soon. LYRICS: I don’t know where you go in the dark, out of sight, into the night [...]
Young Galaxy have unleashed the first single from their new Dan Lissvik-produced album, Ultramarine . "Pretty Boy" will be available digitally from February 5th on Paper Bag Records with a remix of the track from Peaking Lights. Ultramarine is the name and colour of Young Galaxy's fourth LP, the first album they have made away from Montreal, across the sea, all together. Like 20112s Shapeshifting , Ultramarine was made with electronic producer Dan Lissvik (Studio); but this time it was made in Gothenburg, Sweden, at Lissvik's studio; this time five musicians stood in a room with Lissvik, [...]

I've been hankering for new material from Canada's Young Galaxy for an age now, after their last album (the band's third) Shapeshifting blew me away. They recently announced its follow-up, Ultramarine , which will be released via Paper Bag Records again on April 23rd and was again produced by the legendary Dan Lissvik . Lead track "Pretty Boy" is reminiscent of songs from Shapeshifting [...]

Since everyone is going to blog this but I simply adore Young Galaxy big time! So here goes! On January 15th Young Galaxy uploaded a teaser video on the upcoming album "Ultramarine" which drops on April 23rd. Finally the leading single from Ultramarine has been revealed. Check out Pretty Boy. Still maintains that Young Galaxy electronica sound that introduced in their last album Shapeshifting. Like that added violin sound almost at the end. [...]

Own It or Disown It returns with a look back at a hip-hop album that fell through the cracks - Shapeshifters by Invincible. John explains why he thinks this album is one of the greatest things he has ever heard. Well, those three weeks flew by right quick. Now, to argue [...]

Part of me will always be mournful for the slow decline of regional sounds. That's not to say that regionalism doesn't exist. It always will. When I went to Baton Rouge, the people there had minimal interest in hearing anything made north of Atlanta. Between Bronson and Roc Marc, this is one of the best weeks for New York rap since Murda Muzik . But the ease of transmission means that musicians are pulling from all over the world before they even have a chance to master their original style. Of course, this can also lead to [...]

I've been considering a full on life change for the last few months - the kind where you literally drop ties and possessions and ignite the fires of recreation. How appropriate then that I dusted off this track from Young Galaxy's third full length Shapeshifting . The band stays true to their name throughout the album, floating in an undulating cosmos, steady as a calmly beating heart. Cover Your Tracks opens with a heavy bass drum that resonates somewhere deep in your chest. Steel drums excitedly fill layers around the beat, and the vocals complete [...]
