The post title says it all, doesn't it? Will your favorite purple protege be featured? Stick around all week and see. Kicking things off is Miss Escovedo, who Prince discovered in 1983 playing in her father's latin-fusion band Azteca. The tiny terror promptly put Sheila to work, having her provide the guest vocals on his classic b-side "Erotic City" ( not Vanity nor Apollonia, as is commonly mistaken). A short year later, Sheila had a contract with Warner Brothers and a Top Ten hit with her debut album's title track, "The [...]
Chris Stamey and Peter Holsapple were (legendarily) the only people in North Carolina who bought Big Star albums the very first time around, and they'd team up most famously for the power-pop band the dB's. (Stamey would also release Chris Bell's 45 and Holsapple would go on to play with Hootie and the Blowfish!) They are now teamed up as a band with no official name. This interview by Dan Collins.

Drummer Sheila E. was well-prepared for the success she found with the the release of the debut album in the summer of 1984. The daughter of Latin jazz percussionist Pete Escovedo, Sheila had been performing with his band since her teens. She had also recently provided vocals to the Prince song Erotic City , which had been the b-side to his #1 hit Let's Go Crazy (and she would become a member of his band in 1987). It was also Prince that wrote the title song for Sheila E.'s debut album The Glamorous Life [...]
![Counting Down Prince's Greatest Protégés [Where Have You Gone, Rosie Gaines?]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1642134_lg.jpg)
Perhaps inspired by the Bria Valente disc from Prince's new triple-disc set for Target, the blog Adventures Of An Audio Diva counted down its list of The Purple One's top 10 protégés of all time recently. Besides being surprised that Taja Sevelle (above) made it all the way to No. 4. I wondered who more Prince-savvy Idolator readers might put on their own list. (I think we can all agree that Tony M should stay on the outside looking in.) The Audio Diva list: [...]
The first line of the email read: "Host John Rich tapped Sheila E.," and continued, "as the winner of the third season of CMT's hit series GONE COUNTRY." I thought, Wow, crazy, wacky, is that show i... Continue reading "Sheila E. Done Gone Country, Carrie Covers Crue" >

It's not the voice of the Voice's daughter. True. But she did " celui-là spécialement pour vous, pour que, pendant les vacances, on soit encore ensemble." Thank you. Sheila - Bang Bang (Phillips, 1966) Obviously Mister Modo bakes tasty music. Mister Modo - Girl Scouts Cookie (LME, 2008) [...]

Sheila Escovedo had already amassed quite a resume by the time she had reached her early 20s. The daughter of musician Pete Escovedo, the drummer/percussionist performed on albums by artists including George Duke, Lionel Richie, Marvin Gaye, and Diana Ross before she came to the attention of Prince in 1983. She appeared on Erotic City , the popular b-side to Let's Go Crazy and signed a record deal. Prince was instrumental in the success of Sheila E.'s debut, The Glamorous Life , which resulted in the Top Ten title song in the late summer of 1984. [...]

Goethe once said, "A useless life is an early death" - I couldn't disagree more, it's how you live it that's most important. My best friend died in a motorcycle accident when we were both twenty-one; he touched endless people and fit more into life than anyone I've met since. Most of our friends have retired to couch surfdom, they've about as much life in 'em as a Norwegian Blue parrot pining for the fjords, yet destiny plucked a kid with wisdom of The Buddha off this mortal coil just as he was spreading his wings. I didn't think it [...]

I had this one song I was saving up for Friday, but I guess it'll have to wait until next Friday because I just have not been able to get "The Glamorous Life" out of my head, and who would want that anyway? "The Glamorous Life" sounds just like a Prince song and was produced by Prince, but Sheila E. has sole songwriting credit. (So if you were planning on writing a long post about how Prince was so creatively strong and prolific in the 80s that he could just hand out amazing hit songs and [...]
![George Clinton Ready To Tear The Roof Off The Sucker... Country-Style [Everybody's A Winner]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1339657_lg.jpg)
A third season of Gone Country —the CMT show in which artists attempt to make over their careers so they can enter the hotly contended "country crossover" market—has been announced by the network, and among the stars hoping to follow in the footsteps of season-two victor Sebastian Bach are a lot of actual famous musicians, like George Clinton and Micky Dolenz and, uh, Justin Guarini. (OK, so maybe a couple of people this time out just like being on TV.) After the jump, we handicap the contestants. Richard Grieco [...]

what up, KB. in the end, there's a OG preaaaching out there in the chi! oh boy.

L'estate sta finendo, come canterebbero i Righeira . [...]

A great curiosity in Dutch pophistory is 1977's Et Si Tu Pars by Art Sullivan and Kiki. This single was mentioned on a Dutch forum, I remembered I had this single and decided to post it here. Kiki's full name is Kiki van Oostindië, she was a model (for the 'Alle 13 Goed!' compilations in the seventies) a singer and a songwriter. She helped Dutch rockhero Peter Koelewijn with the lyrics for Patrick Mon Cheri, a song (in English, she sings about her hot summer nights in Cannes) that was later covered by Sheila. After 'Patrick', [...]

Today was an uncharacteristically good day. I really just sailed through, good conversation, excellent listens, even a good meal to end the night. On the way to the market tonight I was just driving along, smiling to myself thinking of my sweet Babies, who have seen fit to make my last few days so much [...]
I just saw Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band tonight at the Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie. Wow! He always puts together an awesome band and this particular lineup really had the house rockin!! Ringo's 9th All Starr band features Rod Argent on keyboards (Zombies in the 60's & Argent in the 70's,) Richard Marx on rhythm guitar, Sheila E. on drums and percussion, Billy Squier on lead guitar, Edgar Winter on keyboards and saxophone, and [...]
Ringo is getting ready for another summer tour with the All Starr Band. Looks like an interesting lineup. Previous members includes some real classic rockers. Clarence Clemons, Levon Helm, Dr. John, Jim Keltner, Nils Lofgren, Billy Preston, Joe Walsh, Dave Edmunds, Todd Rundgren, Timothy B.
