"Can you feel the feel the fun? You can almost reach out and touch the fun. You can almost taste the fun. Almost." -- Tom on the sensory overload of another installment of The Best Show "Sounds like what you read might've even been worse than what I saw somehow." -- Tom on the Cavemen sides a caller read during his audition "I need like a scrub brush now to scrub my brain clean of that." -- Tom, looking to remove the latest coat of Ken [...]
Stijl. Niet veel dingen zijn stijl. Nog minder mensen zijn stijl. Ja "zijn" ja, niet "hebben". Stijl zijn is stijl hebben, stijl hebben niet per se stijl zijn. Steve Albini , die is stijl. Shellac , stijl.
We like people who have strong characters, not cardboard copies of the 'throws the TV out of the window' school of rock documented by Yo la Tengo in their lovely video for Sugarcube, wannabe thugs... All I have been listening to is Shellac these days. I don't know why. Here's a peel session version of the song Crow. It kicks ass. Shellac - Crow (peel session)
All photos courtesy of Jonathan Dadds Last Thursday saw Steve Albini and his Shellac roadshow come to town with one of the most impressive concerts I've seen in years. Highlights? 'Prayer To God' and 'Squirrel Song' from 1000 Hurts were greeted with cheers (well, as many cheers as the audience, the majority being mostly male music geeks like myself, could muster). New tracks 'The End Of Radio'
Shellac - Squirrel song Nachdem letztens ja Touch&Go ihr 100 Jähriges gefeiert haben, hier die absolut genialen Shellacsisters. Play loud.
John Peel tribute (december 2004). Deze nummers verschijnen hoogstwaarschijnlijk op de nieuwe plaat Excellent Italian Greyhound . The End of Radio Paco Steady As She Goes

I've posted this song before. Back in the early days. But as I've just finished my last day of working at Job X, I'm posting it again as it feels highly appropriate. And that's as good an excuse as any to post it. Besides which, if you look up the word, 'Awesome' in the dictionary, the definition comes back with no words, merely this song. It's taken from a session Shellac did on the first John Peel Day [...]

I made my way downtown last night to catch Ghostland Observatory's performance at a little venue on Congress called Trophy's. I left the show thouroughly rocked to the maximum and dripping with sweat, I don't think I have witnessed such a powerful force from a two piece band since I saw the Stripes a few years ago. If you have an opportunity, I'd highly recommend that you see Ghostland Observatory in concert. Another Austin band called LIONS opened the show and were quite good, more on them later. My alma mater is taking on [...]

... I think it has to do with the nature of visual memory. Not only do I remember photographs better than I remember moving images. But what I remember of a movie amounts to an anthology of single shots. I can recall the story, lines of dialogue, the rhythm. But what I remember visually are selected moments that I have, in effect, reduced to stills. It's the same for one's own life. Each memory from one's childhood, or from any period that's not in the immediate past, is like a still photograph rather than a strip of [...]
