Happy New Year everyone! There haven't been many new releases for the past few weeks (with a few notable exceptions like a DVD from Cage the Elephant ), but things start to return to normal with a good number of albums arriving on store shelves this Tuesday. January 10 will bring Starfucker 's Jupiter re-released on vinyl, a covers record from Shellshag entitled Fuck Society (pictured), and Elvis Found Alive (need we say more?). Of course, this first week is just a taste of what is to come [...]

Recommended Show: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2011 DANIEL FRANCIS DOYLE & SHELLSHAG @ DEATH BY AUDIO 49 S 2nd St Brooklyn, NY 11211 $7, 8PM Normally, either Daniel Francis Doyle or Shellshag could make it onto the most recommended show of our To Do List by themselves, but put them together on a bill, and they are unstoppable! Finally, finally get round to showcasing what February has in store for me/you/us in the coming weeks.... TUESDAY 8th FEBRUARY ------------ BRIGHT EYES @ Oran Mor It starts off tonight with Saddle Creeks finest, the unashamedly solemn Bright Eyes performing at the Oran Mor. Unfortunately for me, regardless of the gig being 10 minutes ftom my flat, i won't be making it as it's fucking sold out. Gutted. I'm not the only one of my friends to miss out though so we'll take solace by listening [...]

In association with the two-night Don Giovanni Records showcase, they have released an awesome little sampler. One of the big highlights is the new Laura Stevenson & The Cans song "Master Of Art". In the wake of the retirement of The White Stripes, I got to thinking about all of that fantastic music. But also I started thinking about all of the fantastic music that has come from male-female duos. From Matt and Kim to Wye Oak (with the gender reversal in instrumentation) to Yo La Tengo, Brooklyn's...

MP3: Shellshag - "Resiliant Bastard" Our favorite Brooklyn punk duo Shellshag is heading out on the road again. There aren't many shows on this upcoming tour, but fans in the northeast should be quite pleased with the schedule. Street Eaters will be joining the pair on the road, and both acts will perform at Don Pedro on November 13 in Brooklyn. The full list of shows is below. Shellshag/Street Eaters tour dates: 11.08.10 - Brick, NJ @ Brick Moose Lodge [...]

In attempts to dance about Shellshag 's architecture, they've been explained as an amalgam of The Breeders, Sonic Youth, The Ramones, DFA, David Byrne, Guided By Voices, Moldy Peaches and early Superchunk—and, because they're a male guitarist/female drummer duo, those touch points (Jack and Meg, Matt and Kim, Juicifer) get tossed around like so much confetti, too. They've played with everyone from Iggy Pop, The Slits, The Cramps, Lightning Bolt and J. Mascis to Evan Dando, Les Savy Fav, Shonen Knife and their label mates Screaming Females, and their first (and now out of print) Gary Young EP was [...]

Shellshag (pictured above) and Big Eyes opened up the Screaming Females record release show for Castle Talk. Check out some more pictures below. Shellshag Big Eyes

Recommended Show: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2010 SCREAMING FEMALES & SHELLSHAG @ KNITTING FACTORY 361 Metropolitan Ave Brooklyn, NY 11211 $10, 9PM Though Screaming Females headline this show (and we do love Screaming Females), be sure to get there on time for Shellshag . The guitar-drum duo are a wild and fun live show that often involves more punk rock than should be possible from just two people. Kria Brekkan @ Manhattan Inn Title Tracks @ The Rock Shop Aziz [...]
Today starts two of the best weeks for live shows in NYC I have ever been privy to! Legends like Pavement and Superchunk will be hitting the stages in these two weeks, joined by upstarts like Screaming Females and Candy Claws. It is a well rounded, exciting, and fun time, and that doesn't even include... Read More

This month has probably been the most prolific month for me since I've started this blog. I've blasted out 20 posts (21 counting this one) and cleared out my mailbox three times. By my own low standards, that's amazing. I think I deserve a vacation. Items of note for you to note: Amanda Zelina makes a third appearance on these hallowed pages. This go 'round, she has released an album of gritty blues under the name The Coppertone. It's very much in the vein of the Dead Weather. I've liked everything I've heard from Amanda and this [...]

MP3: Shellshag - "Shut Up" Our favorite punk drum and guitar duo, Shellshag , are back on the road again. The two Brooklynites started off on the road last night with a show in Athens, GA. There is no New York City show scheduled right now, but they're sure to be back home and rocking soon enough. Full tour dates are posted after the jump. Shellshag tour dates: 05.28.10 - Asheville, NC @ Static Age Records 05.29.10 [...]
So FINALLY we got around to doing something with all the video we too when we were in Austin, have a look!
New record details and live videos from SXSW!

Outside Waterloo Records and Amy's Ice Cream in the western part of Austin, a green trailer with glass windows was parked. Inside was a hybrid TV-studio/living room set-up, microphones and people busying about on laptops. They were waiting for me, Jen Shagawat and Shell Driver (AKA Shellshag) to climb up on inside the trailer to have a jolly old time while we were towed around the streets of Austin at the height of SXSW 2010. Shellshag are a punk/rock partnership who are not used to acoustic sessions of any kind, but they played along nicely. They've been compared [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours Brooklyn-based musical duo Shellshag isn't your typical girl/boy band. Jennifer Shagawat beats away on the drums, playing next to John Driver (Shell), who belts out the lyrics, and the duo is also a couple off-stage. Before Shellshag embarks on a trip to SXSW , Spinner recently caught up with Jen Shag (with Shell sometimes piping in with an answer or two) while the band was camping out in Florida getting to ready to perform at the Harvest of Hope Festival.
