If you're on the fence about leaving everything behind and joining a commune, the pastoral beauty of Carol Kleyn might give you that extra push. Her self-released 1976 LP, Love Has Made Me Stronger, is a whismical exploration of arboreal pop and Anglo folk, featuring a voice as powerful and mesmerizing as Sandy Denny . While the harp was often Kleyn's weapon of choice, she didn't learn to play until she was 21, after receiving one as a gift from her friend and mentor Bobby Brown (not this one). Kleyn quickly mastered [...]

Luminescent Orchestrii was recommended to me last night. I was told "imagine Beirut and o'death playing together with classical precision." After some clicking I found Luminescent Orchestrii describe themselves thusly... "Romanian gypsy melodies, punk frenzy, salty tangos, hard-rocking klezmer, haunting Balkan harmony, hip-hop beats and Appalachian fiddle, all eaten and spit out by two violins, resophonic guitar, bullhorn harmonica and bass." Sound good to me. Listen: "Knockin'" (mp3) Myspace page is here . More mp3s here . Consider Clicking - Are [...]

DOWNLOAD: Shepherdess, "Not Gonna Be There Now" (mp3) For reasons that aren't entirely musical, Hilken Mancini was our favorite member of Fuzzy. Chris Toppin was technically the better singer, but Hilken was the one with the squeaky voice, the messy guitar, and the skintight jumpsuits. The one, obviously, who stood out. Since Fuzzy, she's often ended up undeservedly playing second fiddle (garage-punk with the Count Me Outs , indie-folk with Buffalo Tom's [...]
