![RUBIK, FUN, THE DRUMS [SUGGESTED NYC CONCERTS]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3844059_lg.jpg)
There's a ton of great shows in NYC this week, creating an interesting dilemma for those that need to select just one or two. The Drums , fun. , Young Man , Lucius , ARMS , Kurt Vile & the Violators , and Cloud Nothings are all playing our fine city, but it's still our 2nd B-Day Bash that I'm most excited for. Featuring Rubik , Ambassadors , Yellowbirds , E-603 , and For a Minor Reflection , Manhattan venue Pianos will [...]
What started as a solo outlet for Arthur Conan Doyle-obsessed Tonya Horo has quickly turned into the hotly tipped trio known as Sherlock's Daughter, an experimental pop band from Australia that's beginning to make a splash in the U.S. NPR, Village Voice, Interview and even Thurston Moore have taken note, and we're pretty impressed ourselves, [...]

![10 BANDS TO WATCH [NORTHSIDE FESTIVAL]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3521338_lg.jpg)
What is Northside Festival ? Well, it's a music festival put on each year in New York City by The L Magazine that focuses on the best indie music this city has to offer. It's not a typical music festival hosted in a park over a two day period. Instead, various venues in NYC play host to a weekend of shows and a Northside badge gets you into all of them for a small fee of $80 (buy here ). There's tons of [...]

On May 30th, Sherlock's Daughter will wrap up a month-long residency at NYC's Knitting Factory, and while geography has kept any MOKB staffers from checking the band out live, we're sensing a lot of enthusiasm for their twee-meets-Krautrock stylings. We also like what we're hearing from their self-titled EP , which is available for purchase exclusively through iTunes . The band recently completed a cute if not a little cloying DIY video for In The End , which we dutifully share. [...]

You know I am going to miss the mindless mp3 culling sessions. Wouldn't be doing it though if the rewards weren't so great, see the monster list below for the evidence. Although we've never met we still can't wait to see you again next year SXSW. ~~~ A quiet flower that blooms into something approaching first album Whipping Boy. Wowsers. Sherlocks Daughter - Reprise More Info: Sherlocks Daughter ~~~ Watch out there's a plucked up banjo on [...]

Film was simply not enough to celebrate the opening night party of the 2010 edition of the Zero Film Festival, a festival dedicated to the works of self-financed filmmakers. What better way to ring in the festival than with three bands, free alcohol (with a suggested donation of $3), and an after-hours DJ dance party? After all, a party is not much of one without music and booze. The first act of the night was current buzz band Oberhofer , fresh off a series of well-received CMJ gigs. Fronted by recent [...]

We finally did it! Our final session from CMJ 2010. It might be our last to premier, but it's definitely one of the prettiest filmed that week. With the East River and Williamsburg in the distance , Australian-born, Brooklyn-based band, Sherlock's Daughter whipped out their instruments and gave us a very special performance. Later that night, we had the pleasure to checking them out at Pianos, which was a highlight of my week. Their plugged in show is a much different experience in which their energy and stage presence really grab you by the [...]

We Are Trees Going into 2009's CMJ Festival , Surfer Blood, The xx and Warpaint were poised to be the breakout acts. In 2010, the field is wide open with over 1200 bands seeking approval from NYC audiences. Still, the bands that should generate the most attention are Lord Huron, We Are Trees, Cloud Nothings, Lower Dens, Wild Nothing, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Circle Pit, and Yuck. Out of that group, I expect Lord Huron, We Are Trees, and Lower Dens to come away with the most accolades of the festival. [...]
(photo by Carine Thevenau) Australian rock act and female-fronted powerhouses Sherlock's Daughter are enjoying the ride on waves of praise lately for their infectious and slightly intricate guitar and synth-based arrangements, and now that only will get bigger and more prevalent as the band has been tapped to support the upcoming tour of the UK [...]
ANOTHER TIME from TRAPPEDINACUBE on Vimeo . [mp3] BRAHMS: "Another Time (Laurel Halo Remix)" We're pretty psyched for a STACKED bill tomorrow night at Mercury capped off by Brahms and including: Class Actress, Sherlock's Daughter, Sun Airway, and a Lemonade DJ set. Check out the new remix above. From the PR After touring the country with Passion Pit, completing a sell out residency at Pianos in New York and turning their Northside showcase into a bona fide 600 people deep dance party... BRAHMS are [...]

Well it has been 6 whole months since the last Derogatory Playlist and the longer I left it the harder it got to put one down as my long list of dance tracks got stale. I came to the decision that I just had to make the post sooner rather then later so I am able to move forward. This playlist will be a little different to the others as it has been 6 months of tunes shrunk down to 11 carefully selected tracks. What you have below are 11 tracks I have heard over the last 6 months new [...]
Tanya Horo of Sherlock's Daughter. With a sold-out show at Bowery Ballroom last night, Freelance Whales' performance was not to be missed. But in my opinion the real band to watch was the opening act: Sherlock's Daughter. I came across Sherlock's Daughter two weeks ago when they played with Neon Indian at Brooklyn Bowl. Based out of Sydney, Australia, the band just moved to Brooklyn two

On first listen I was like: "yeah its ok". Then it popped up randomly in my itunes ten minutes later and I thought: "woah, what is this? It's amaaaazing". And now after 37 or so listens I am totally hooked on the Danimals sound, after not giving them much thought for the past year or so. Danimals was once the side project of Sherlocks Daughter member Jonti Danielwitz and is now a quartet and probably the next big thing to come [...]

Sherlocks Daughter - Kids (Alison Wonderland Remix) Paul [...]
Sherlock's Daughter Sherlock's Daughter is an alternative folk band from Sydney, Australia. They are Tanya Horo, William Russell, Liam Flanagan, Jonti Danilewitz and Tim Maybury. They released their self-titled debut EP in late 2009, and have so far toured with School of Seven Bells and the Temper Trap. Now it's their turn to take the world by [...]

This remix of Sherlocks Daughters 'Kids' dropped in on my mail today. And apparently it's produced by the only female I know to date making music like this. It's the debut remix from Australian Alison Wonderland , and I'm amazed by this and rarely have I heard synths as crisp as these. Damn solid production, awesome build and percussions, everything about this track is just ace. The likes of Russ Chimes , Diamond Cut and Justin Faust better watch out. This lady is coming to get you. mp3 [...]
