So one of my favorite things ever is when a great artist redoes a classic, and it is simply spectacular. The Rolling Stones have had a plethora of spectacular songs, and one of my fav's has got to be Wild Horses. I guess I like surprising chillness that the song can bring, and I am in a sort of late night mood. Today we have several covers, first of which is by Sheryl Crow. Sheryl decided to go acoustic with just a piano and her beautiful voice. I love the intensity she puts into it. Very nice. Another [...]
Today's theme is…states! I was going to try to do every state over a series of posts, but quickly realized I have fifty songs about California and none about, say, Delaware. So, instead, here's a choice sampling of songs about states. Mostly lesser-known songs, because at this point I can no longer find a cover of Georgia On My Mind or Sweet Home Alabama that excites me. Feel free to pass along any ideas though. And if anyone has a good cover of Private Idaho… Mavis Staples - Down [...]

We talked a bit about Sheryl Crow 's forthcoming new record called " Detours ", in a previous post , but now we're back with some details. For instance, after resolving, her misunderstandings with long time friend and collaborator, Bill Bottrell, the both in a burst of creativity, recorded twenty-four songs in forty days in the basement studio of Crow's Nashville-area home. Of these, only fourteen made the cut, on what's considered Crow's most personal album yet, fact she attributes to the adoption of her son, Wyatt, in 2007. "I couldn't write fast enough, having this tiny, innocent [...]
"Bottom feeder, insincere Prophet, lo-fi pioneer Sell the house and go to school Get a young girlfriend, daddy's jewel A change would do you good..." -Sheryl Crow - "A Change" My Florida absentee ballot is safely in the hands of The Royal Mail - on it's way to the Volusia County Supervisor of Elections. This means ...

Welcome back to the working week and the beginning of what should be a rather engaging and fun series (that I hope all you readers feel privy to take part in yourselves) that will cover this whole week. I have this friend in town, Cind-- er, Grandma Cyd, that is, and every Saturday night on WSUM she does a show from 8-10 CST called "The Heavy Petting Zoo" which is categorically defined as makeout music for those wishing for a nice Saturday night in, but is more coolly defined (by me) as two hours [...]

These past few years have been a bit restless for everybody's country sweetheart Sheryl Crow , a unfortunate encounter with brast cancer, a breakup with longtime boyfriend Lance Armstrong and the adoption of a baby boy, Wyatt, are just a few major events in her life. Such a string of life changing events was sure to affect Sheryl's music as well, it's no wonder her upcoming 2008 record is titled " Detour ." "We recorded all the tracks over a period of about 40 days at my farm in Nashville, which we jokingly called 'the [...]

This has always been one of MJ's favorite songs. The Rolling Stones released Wild Horses in 1971 on their album Sticky Fingers . Mick and Keith wrote the song together, but the song's Wiki tells us that it is also said it was "originally written by Richards in response to having to leave his then-infant son Marlon to go on tour with the band. Although it is said Jagger re-wrote most of this song to reflect the end of his relationship with Marianne Faithfull, [...]

Poor Kid Rock. He hasn’t put out a real album in nearly three years, with only this February’s Live Trucker output. And we all know that live albums are merely a holding pattern for any artist, and a chance to make easy skrilla for shit you’re already getting paid for. As ...
Everyday Is a Winding Road for Sheryl Crow . That's because she's the latest music celebrity to be affected by breast cancer. Her label has stated she will be undergoing radiation treatment as a precaution. Sheryl Crow has postponed her North American tour that was scheduled for March through April.
