The latest bit of goodness from Shigeto arrives by way of a 42-minute mix that he performed during a recent Boiler Room party. I haven't gotten the chance to see him live, either as a DJ or behind his drum-kit, so this will definitely do for now. He's not simply hitting play on a laptop and grooving back and forth as the music plays, as he manipulates the dance floor-oriented jams with his MPC triggers throughout. You can stream/download the mix below.

It is hard to go wrong with a Shigeto remix, especially when he takes to an artist like Evenings. We were certainly fans of his Yore LP, and now we are happy to see some extended buzz on the full-length today. Chopping up vocal samples and tip-toeing gracefully over floating synthesizers, Shigeto brings new light to this already stellar single. Yore is out now via Friends of Friends.

The cluttered assortment of mics was an early indicator of Bonobo’s dense live experience. Partially masked by the forest of stands, opener Shigeto, aka Zach Saginaw, produced a brook of organic electronica that served to arouse the inner-naturalist of Chicago’s packed House of Blues. Adding live drums to his own downtempo productions, Saginaw helped lift the crowd above the urban cage of skyscrapers and elevated trains toward the fog of interpersonal solace. With 04/20 landing on a Saturday, this was an opportunity for the Windy City to explore the more “chill” side of dance music and bask in the waves [...]

Mixtape: Bay Area Artists, Remixing and Remixed (Podcast #304) All too frequently, remixes are just okay , but when they are great, they're really something special. A truly great remix can shed new light on the original artist's work and stand on its own as a unique creation. That's no easy feat, either, given the tension between staying true to an original song's components and a reworker's desire to create something new and personal. These days, it feels far too easy to get remix fatigue. Reworkings seem to pop up almost immediately after [...]
Caveman headline Johnny Brenda's tonight in support of their self-titled sophomore effort. The Brooklyn band turned heads with their 20112s CoCo Beware debut, an album that displayed an affinity for theatrical synths and instrumental phrases threaded and revisited throughout the tracks. The four-piece employs that cohesiveness again on the new LP, with guitar riffs in lead single "In ... Continue reading
Fresh on the heels of the release of his latest album, The North Borders , Bonobo is set to begin his North American Live tour this Wednesday, April 10th at the Black Cat in Washington DC. While many of the performances are already sold out, including Washington DC, New York and Boston, there are still tickets available to some of the shows, including Bonobo's performance at the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia, PA and the [...]

The homie from Guelph(Toronto), Elaquent, remixes Shigeto’s Huron River Drive. Elaquent aka EQ used to post all the time on the Underground Hip Hop producers forum that I frequented quite often and it’s both cool and nice to see all his body of work and remember what it sounded like 5 years ago.. Big ups EQ.

I'm not even going to make an excuse. My list of mixes and tunes really range across a huge spectrum of forward thinking music on this week's edition of Weekly Flavours. The choice cuts range from dreamy rnb stylings from Kaytranada and all the way to acid-inspired, dark trap music... The post Weekly Flavours [010] [Future Bass] appeared first on Noise Collective .

What happens when a bunch of our favorite producers get together on a single project? Well, you get S.Maharba: Remixed , the brilliant new remix (duh) album that centers on the music of S.Maharba 's (double duh) self-titled debut. You know, it's kind of crazy that we're only just NOW hearing this, considering said debut album dropped in 2008, but I can't complain when names like Shigeto , Mono/Poly , Mike Slott, and Dibia$e are involved. But the best part? The bonkers remix from a cat I hadn't heard of before: Pyramid Juke. [...]

Featuring collaborations with Devonwho, SKYWLKR, Josef Deas, Mux Mool and ID, Shigeto 's 'Beats 4 Dilla' EP is an inspiring take on J Dilla's work. Each track draws out an exciting new side of all the artists involved in what could only be described as a passionate open letter to the revered producer. Dilla tragically passed away mere days after the release of 'Donuts' in 2006. Since then, his music has only grown in popularity, with pretty much any producer worth their salt will hail Dilla as a massive influence. As [...]
It's Friday, which means that we're awaiting the arrival of the latest snowpocalypse, and also that it's time for our regular roundup of new music to get your hands on this week. This week there's a free EP from Stars and their touring buddies, along with a bunch of interesting remixes (featuring Tame Impala, Diana and Doldrums, and others), a free Dilla-inspired beat compilation from Shigeto, new tracks from Four Tet and Leech, a pretty ace mixtape from Kilo Kish, and plenty more where that all came from. None of this will cost you a dime, so we suggest you [...]
