The Moondoggies ::: photo by Abbey Simmons Following in the funky footsteps of Wheedle's Groove isn't an enviable task, but a newly expanded Moondoggies line-up stepped up to the challenge Sunday afternoon at Sasquatch. Taking the stage as a six-piece after an all-night drive from Montana, the central harmonies of Kevin, Carl and Caleb were joined [...]

The headline says it all: this Saturday January 15th a special quadruple rock bill at the Columbia City Theater has the makings of 2011's most earth-shaking night yet. The ground trembled when Marshawn Lynch took it all the way last Saturday, and I think we might be in for a repeat event this Saturday. [...]
I think it's safe to say that every blogger remembers the first record for review that arrived in the mail, like a child fondly recalls their favorite Christmas. For Sound on the Sound, that first record came courtesy of Ashley Graham and The Wig Fits All Heads in September of 2006, just a few weeks [...]

After relentlessly touring KC multiple times over the past year, Bethany finally caught up with Alt rockers Anberlin . Guitarist Christian McAlhaney , formerly of Acceptance , filled PopWreckoning in on life on the road and at a major label. Bethany, PopWreckoning: You guys are one of the most popular alternative bands now, but it wasn't always that way. What were some of the challenges of breaking into mainstream? Christian McAlhaney , Anberlin: It is endless. Anberlin has been a band…some of these [...]
Cosmic Panther Land Band ::: Photo by Josh Moments like this make me glad. From a Facebook bulletin the night before the "secret" show: Let's just say.... hypothetically... members of Maldives, Shim, Moondoggies and Widower wanted to contribute to Noise for the Needy this year. But let's say most of those bands were contractually obliged to not play shows within [...]

(photo by Delgoff ) Last month we brought you news of the developing line-up for this year's Ibiza Rocks dates, all taking place this summer, featuring the likes of Klaxons, MGMT , Vampire Weekend, Pendulum and more. Today, we bring word of the line-up for the afterparties for each night's performances, all being held at the lovely (we're guessing here, it's Ibiza after all) Eden. Headlined almost each night by 2manydjs (above) and featuring the likes of Steve Aoki, Rusko, Digitalism , Fake Blood, The Bloody [...]

engaging instrumental tracks are not easy. if you take away the vocals from a lot of songs, you realize there's little meat backing them up. not the case with these guys. they don't just throw a melody together, let it run for 12 minutes, and waste your life with the download. instead, they refuse to lose the forest for the trees... opting instead to construct a humid pounding rainforest of contagious melodies that could turn any dance floor into a sweaty blur. Joe and Will Ask? - Shim (zshare)

We are so happy to be even loosely associated with another great Wig Bash in Spokane. Ashley Graham over at The Wig Fits All Heads PR was the first person who ever reached out to Sound on the Sound in the infancy of our blog and is a tremendous asset in the Seattle and Pacific Northwest scene. Before anyone else has seen something special in some of the Northwest's bands, including See Me River, Shim, The Blakes, Team Gina, Hockey, and more, it's Ashley who's fallen for their sound and realized their potential. She's an amazing lady, with an uncanny [...]
After a break due to a quick run in with the law (copyright that is); I'm back. I had considered maybe rebelling and adopting the path of Pablo Escobar but then I remembered I'd have to get a killer tan, some homies and $2 million of cocaine which somehow seemed less appealing. So.... Let's start off with a video. Since the birth of this blog I've been asking lots of people I wouldn't normally ask for new music. [...]

Pierced Arrows ::: photo by Josh We've been accused of being suckers for antics and over-the-top performances, so I wanted to share with you some softly-lit Sound on the Sound photos-to show you can win us over without dancing on tables or climbing up street-signs. Behold the best of the softer-side of Sound on the Sound's photos of 2008. (bands may not be 'soft', but the lighting is!) Portugal, The Man with Wild Orchid Children ::: photo by Josh [...]

After hoofing at least 10 miles throughout the day on Saturday we wisely decided to catch the bus most of the way Sunday afternoon. Sunday's schedule featured the least well known acts of the weekend, and oddly enough I ended up catching portions of 16 acts that day (17 if you count the two gents shown above). The day started off with singer/songwriter Tyrone Wells. If the O.C. was still on television (is it?) I'm sure Tyrone would have made an appearance, and if it wasn't for a decent story he told of an encounter with James [...]
WPvideo 1.02 TheArcadeFireKeeptheCarRunning BetterQuality There's a lot floating around about the Arcade Fire performance on Saturday Night Live this weekend, with posts from Brooklyn Vegan , Sixeyes , and Rock Sellout . Watch the footage of 'Keep the Car Running' and download both songs from their performance: Arcade Fire - Intervention (SNL, 2/24/07) ( MP3 ) Arcade Fire - Keep the Car Running (SNL, 2/24/07) ( MP3 ) [...]

Good backup vocals (or any backup vocals for that matter) are something that has been lost in popular rock for some time, "the dark time" if you will, but I feel like lately that has been changing. Quite a bit of the music I have had the pleasure to review recently has featured some standout singing by more than just one member of the band, and Shim's In The Veins is another great example of this, with each member being listed as a vocalist in the liner notes. Lead singer Ragan Crowe's crisp, clean vocals have more flavor and fire than alot of rock singers coming out today and his vocal range seems to be just as comfortable [...]
