As I sit down at my computer today to start off this new week, I feel somewhat invigorated, as my little disappearing act from the blog has brought on a newfound energy to get back into the swing of things (at least I hope so...). After seeing some good shows, being around familiar faces, and just having a good time altogether - it's easy to forget sometimes that I do run this blog. To start off this week in the best way possible, i've got a track that has been completely dominating my listening time over the [...]

I've noticed this happening with a bit of regularity, about once a month or so. I get into a restless, searching state where I can't figure out what I want to post about, yet there is this nagging sense that something is right under the surface just waiting to be uncovered. Sometimes the thing that's struggling to emerge is a feeling or thought and sometimes it's a song. Sometimes I don't know what the hell it is! I think it's a song this time. I heard [...]

The Patch state of permission [...]

Better to be late than to never post anything, and I apologize to my fellow blogger for falling into such a slump recently. Hopefully posting this will induce to me to to follow up with more postings. What can be said about 2007? For independent music, the year was huge, and the idea of non-independent music is a shadowy figure on the horizon I can't make out. And it's not to say that independent is cool, that it is trendy to adopt the idea of being independent and using it as a marketing scheme in itself (Radiohead), but [...]

I realized I haven't posted one of these in a while. Cover songs always intrigue me because it is interesting to see what two different artists can do with the same song (sometimes the results are not too great). I have already featured a track from his jazzy-dance band Mondo Grosso , but nothing about the artist himself, Shinichi Osawa . By himself, he is a rising producer/artist with resume full of edits for Kitsune (Boys Noize, Christopher Just and Digitalism) and in Japan, the term is "megastar". And somehow I [...]

Happy Monday! Sorry for the lack of updates, the BBQ headquarters have relocated and now we're back online! Today we bring you to the world of Shinichi Osawa ! As you can tell from the picture above, he's a DJ bringin' you the heavy dance and electro you love/crave. I love the sampling of vocals (i.e. Au Revoir Simone) on several of these synth driven tracks. If you're currently into the indie dance craze, Shinichi is the Japanese love child of Daft Punk, Digitalism, and Soulwax. Mondo Grosso (Italian for "Big World") [...]

I can't explain it, but a certain post of mine from exactly a year ago has gotten more hits than any other this month. It's a disco-themed post, of all things. I guess it goes to show that you can't predict what people will be interested in. Anyway, I've been on the hunt for some danceable stuff and remixes myself, and here are a few songs that I've found lately that are helping me get my groove on. I take no credit for finding any of them [...]

Shinichi Osawa has got to be my favourite producer right now. Definitely my favourite non-French producer. Hailing from Japan, Shinichi has been producing and remixing international artists since the early 90's whilst still putting out music under the name Mondo Grosso. He has worked with everyone from Princess Superstar to Freeform Five and even Au Revoir Simone who provided the vocals for his rework of the Chemical Brothers "Star Guitar". Kapow! the Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar (Shinichi Osawa rework feat. Au Revoir Simone) Oh yeah, [...]

And we're back. Apologies to everyone who have been checking back regularly to find nothing but L-Lo blowing some dude on a boat. Frightening stuff. I've been snowed under with exams (still am too) and grappling with a fancy new server (fingers crossed...) so getting the blog back together has been an arduous task. But thankyou to all the readers and especially JD and DGIU and above all else my girlfriend for bugging me to get this crap together. But here we are, I hope it was worth the wait. [...]

Shinichi Osawa is a pretty regular fixture 'round these parts, and the maestro himself has just released a new disc, The One , in Japan. I've been on the hunt for a full copy of the album but am yet to have any luck. Until then, dig his remake of the Chemical Brothers' classic Star Guitar featuring vocals from indie kids Au Revoir Simone . This is not to be missed. Shinichi Osawa - Star Guitar ft. Au Revoir Simone And for an exrtra helping [...]
Today's other posts both end with the word 'Night', so this one does too. Think of it as a theme. Another theme for today (besides hangovers and the word 'Night') is awesome cover versions...
