► Almost three years after their debut EP of propulsive dream-pop came out, Magic Wands today release their first full-length, "Aloha Moon," and it's very good. The duo of Chris and Dexy Valentine celebrate with a headlining show at the Satellite, supported by Blue Jungle and the Sister Ruby Band. That's Magic Wands' video for "Space," above. ► We've been eager to hear more from Pageants — tonight they play the Echo, supported by E.S.P. ► Pop-rock quintet Troup [see our April 4 post ] does a night at the Mint ► [...]
This song isn't new. But we've never posted it before and why not now??? Close-up on the pores and unkempt face hairs and teeth of a guy singing a garage rock song, drinking from a bottle, maybe about to leak blood from his lips, maybe not. It's a natural song with a natural face. The recording of this catchy tune is much cleaner than the protagonist's underwear, dontchabet? And can't you imagine the springs sticking out of this song's couch? It's charming, Shirley Rolls. —Daiana Feuer

Sean Carnage has done so much for L.A. music that there had to be a movie made to help document it. He'll be celebrating four years of DIY shows (across six venues!) all this month at Women during his traditional Monday night residencies, and he'll have the official Sean Carnage birthdayversary spectacular on July 27. This interview by Drew Denny.
Texas made them strange and Beerland made them men and now Austin's Strange Boys are one of the realest rock 'n' roll bands currently prowling the American interstate system. They play tonight at the Smell and tomorrow at the Echo and will eradicate years of listless go-nowhere-ism with only 25 minutes and access to electricity. This interview by Dan Collins.
The Voyeurs (Highland Park, CA) [MP3] The Voyeurs - Things People Say It's a season of change and last night the Echo was full of it. The Voyeurs and Go West Young Man both gave birth to new albums and cemented their status as two bands to watch in the burgeoning east side music scene. The show drew a large crowd who came early for energetic fervor of Les Blanks and stayed well after

The way they bond, Jonathan Hylander and Sean Johnson may as well be twin drummers of different mothers. The pair, the driving force behind the Voyeurs , were pounding the skins for different South Bay bands when they met. They went on to play in the formidable but ill-fated (and hard to type) quartet E>K>U>K before bouncing back to write and record their Voyeurs debut, "Well Known Drag." Between then, they also play in about 54 other bands (actually, four), so you'd think they'd grow tired of one another. But over burgers in Burbank on [...]
Otik Records, the South Bay-bred label that has brought you the likes of E>K>U>K, The Voyeurs, and Vaudeville are making quite a bit of noise with their bi-weekly nights at Saint Rocke down in Hermosa Beach. Formerly known as the Pitcher House, Saint Rocke is now a swanky joint that has already hosted the likes of The BellRays, The Bravery, and Donavon Frankenreiter. Otik Records' nights have
It's no secret that we at la-underground are some of the most boring individuals on the planet so our party-throwing abilities are nothing short of pathetic. Leave it to The Karabal Nightlife, whose knack for onstage frolic is as known to locals as their brilliant T.Rex meets Dinosaur Jr. sound, to start this party right. And any band named after a line in one of the most underrated movies of
Oh, First Fridays, how lovely to see you again. So the story goes, we've been trying to get our friends The Monolators on a bill with The Underground Railroad to Candyland and Pizza! for over a year and finally the day has arrived. You see, between constant touring and playing for their beloved hometown of San Pedro, URTC don't come around to L.A. too much. This we can forgive since Mr.
