I am not going to bore you with the logistics of why it has taken me this long to post former Scenestars writer Brandon Thornburg's "Best of 2006" list - but you better believe when I see him, he is gonna get an earful! Brandon has been toying with the idea of writing for this site again, I hope he finally comes around! Anyway, thanks for a great list Brandon - I know it's late, but like they say, "If you haven't heard it, it's still news to you..." 1. 10lec6 - Join US [...]

I've had just about enough of the typical punk/post-punk/new-wave revival, and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. How many more Clash-inspired bands must I trudge through? Joy Division were certainly great, so great that legions of kids are now mimicking Ian Curtis' chilling voice 26 years after his death. A few bands bring something unique to the table (Art Brut, for example), but a large majority just re-hash what I could've spun since 1980 (if I was alive in 1980, of course) and instill boredom. Something I wouldn't mind hearing again is Devo. [...]

[While I collect the mp3s for the Punk Rock History post, here's are some oddities.] Let's talk Shitdisco! No, I'm not insulting Disco, or Salil's music taste. I'm talking about a band. They are part of what NME called the New Rave Scene. My dislike for Rave parties goes back to the Wency/Tommy con-job of 2002 that forced me to go for one. But this music is NOT trance. I'm not sure these [...]
Last night I was finally indoctrinated in the ways of "nu rave". For I witnessed Klaxons murdering the dancefloor in Oxford. Yes, revolution was in the air. As I supped my nu rave pint of bitter and waved my nu rave glowstick (well, a fag) in the air, I prepared to close my eyes and enter the Interzone. When opened again, the main difference I found between a nu rave gig and a normal gig is that
How much does this suck? Darren Cullen, drummer of ShitDisco broke his wrist and cannot play any dates opn the Club NME tour coming up for the band. Cullen was dancing on the top of his tour van when he fell off and broke the important body part needed for drumming (well ONE of them!). From NME.com He explained: "The house engineer broke his fall slightly but he still suffered a broken wrist. He went to hospital and had metal plate [...]

SHITDISCO bring their funky-disco-punk-whatever the fuck all the way from Glasgow, Scotland. They are known for throwing little shindigs around town in abandoned spaces through out Glasgow. This may not be an earth shattering music experience, but I dare you not to shake that money maker a little (or at least swivel in your computer chair). Here’s a couple of songs from their sold out, self-produced single. SHITDISCO | I Know Kung Fu [...]

i've been thinking recently about this as-silly-as-it-is-dirty-rap trend taking place out in the west coast. i'm looking at you, mickey avalon and dirt nasty (aka: simon rex ). it's stupid. it's not well performed. it's obviously a product of the hype machine . but it's fun and it's catchy. mickey avalon - so rich so pretty dirt nasty - droppin names and really, isn't it just a male [...]
