Will Kimbrough: Goodnight Moon [ purchase ] Shivaree: Goodnight Moon [ purchase ] The homonymic pair in question comes from two singles, both released in 2000, from two artists grounded in vastly different soil yet united by their common claim to the American folk and roots traditions. I could imagine both these songs on the same soundtrack, but the movie in question would have to have a hell of a plot [...]
Ambrosia Parsley - Former frontwoman for alt-pop band Shivaree is back with a new solo project...her first work since the Shivaree covers album Tainted Love from 2007, she's taken time off to raise a five-year-old // Release : Weeping Cherry (Working title, date TBA) // Sounds like : Parsley's dark, moody songs have always been juxtaposed with her the light, girlish tone of her voice -- one critic called it the sound of an "inebriated child"...when Quentin Tarantino chose "Goodnight Moon" for Kill Bill 2 , he knew what he [...]

eBay is a dange... hang on. How the fuck are you supposed to capitalise eBay at the start of a sentence? I suppose it has to be EBay doesn't it? It just looks wrong. ITunes? Damn these people and their stupid typography. I miss the days of Wilberforce Carmichael's Internet Music Emporium and the like. Anyhow, as I was saying, eBay is a fucking menace. I am looking up old record players on there at the moment, and have been distracted by even older mics. It's terrifying, particularly with their seductively low bids when things are a day [...]
Canadian beauty Jill Barber sounds like a cross between Blossom Dearie and Shivaree's Ambrosia Parsley . On her former albums she sang smokey jazz-tunes in English, but now she's dabbling in French too. Which is nice. This is the video for her first French single Tous mes rêves (out last year), on her upcoming album there's another, sultrier tune that I'm posting here. I'm usually not a fan of Franglish, when it's French girls trying to sing in English. But the other way around is very arousing. [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive For Maximum Balloon , the new solo project from TV on the Radio 's Dave Sitek , the musician/producer enlisted an all-star cast of guests for the band's first album, including bandmate Kyp Malone , Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O , Shivaree 's Ambrosia Parsley, Dragons of Zynth's Aku and legendary Talking Heads singer David Byrne . So, what [...]

I overheard a co-worker bitching about a "delivery charge" being added to a pizza she had delivered for lunch. Not surprising as she issues perceived grievances in fifteen to twenty minute monologues sprinkled throughout the course of eight hours. As she railed against the injustice of the two-dollar fee, I thought, it could be worse - you could be trapped in a Chilean mine. (and, yes, I admit that for a moment I considered that this might only be worse from her perspective) It must have been two weeks ago that [...]

There's a classic bedtime storybook called Goodnight Moon . Even though it was first published in 1947, I had never heard of it before now, because I was more about Where The Wild Things Are. You can watch a brief animated version of the original book here , as narrated by Susan Sarandon. Whether you're familiar with the original story or not, you'll still enjoy the Keith Moon version that can be viewed, read and purchased here . I even found a song titled "Goodnight Moon" and it's quite [...]

The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has begun mapping the moon for future landings, and later in the mission will capture images of the Apollo equipment left behind from those fake moon landings (the movie set has been moved from Arizona to Taurus-Littrow), so those of you that subscribe to that theory will be able to shift focus back to Area 51. We left that in Nevada . Moon Baby • Godsmack [...]

Sad. That's my simple, yet all-encompassing, reaction to the death of Michael Jackson. Sad, of course, that he has passed so early and so suddenly, but also because of the way the latter part of his life played out. No matter what you think about Mike, he was pretty much as iconic as icons get during the last thirty years. I mean, my mother bought Thriller on vinyl back in the day - and considering she has perhaps purchased less than five albums during my lifetime, that is saying something. Anyway, the song above [...]

Fookin' marvellous, not only is it Friday but this weekend is supposed to be stunning and there are all sorts of fun and capers planned between now and Monday. Firstly, tonight Honeytrap - one of my favourite bands - are playing Sneaky Pete's with Meursault, and I am really looking forward to it. Then tomorrow we have a marathon double Toad Session day of mentalism, with Found coming in at about two in the afternoon and Honeytrap at six. It is going to be, I think it's safe to say, fucking hectic and probably very drunken, [...]
Covers covers covers! W00t! Etc. Shivaree - Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough Casiotone For The Painfully Alone - Born In The U.S.A. A.C. Newman - Take On Me See, this is kinda easy. Recently on Comfort Radio: Ms. John...

Ah...another overlook by The Mountain Tempo. A few moons back I posted on a new obsession, Kaiser Cartel. One of my favorite songs (pun intended) of the year was their recording of "Oh No." Not until yesterday afternoon did I find out that this was a cover. And no, I'm not taking anything away from Benjamin and Courtney, as they cover the song beautifully and back it up with a whole album of stellar tracks. And...they had a damn nice video to accompany their voices and raw version: But, "Oh No" [...]
With Life on life support, it doesn't help to have an episode like this where which feels like filler in place to deal with Sarah Shahi's pregnancy. While the over the phone scenes between Crews and Reese were funny, it kind of felt like those weird Three's Company episodes where Chrissy ( Suzanne Somers *) would call in at the end of the show. It's hardly the kind of thing you want to do on a show that's a long shot for renewal. [...]
For Reaper fans wondering what happened to Sock's old squeeze Josie (Valarie Rae Miller,) apparently she joined the military and was on leave. Hopefully, I'll have more on this tomorrow... just consider the playlist and quotes "No man has ever shot himself as many times as I have." "Don't you love that accent, everything she says sounds intelligent." Playlist: Life - Episode 2.17 1. "It Dawned On Me" - Calla 2. "Gone Too Far" - Shivaree 3. [...]
