What with me having far too many good gigs to mention, I have decided that the easiest thing for me to do is to role them all into one mega post. So if you're not likely to be heading out to a gig any time soon, then you may want to look away now... First off, we have a gig that I'll be putting on next month at the Captain's Rest featuring Mitchell Museum, Jo Schornikow from The Shivers and [...]

[Photos by Dominick Mastrangelo ] The Australian singer-songwriter Jo Schornikow is the best-known as the pianist and keyboardist of The Shivers , but she is a lovely singer and performer in her own right (as well as, her website humorously notes, an "internationalist" and a "nice person"). Schornikow opened this NYCTaper-sponsored show at Mercury Lounge to a crowd that included many of her own fans, who watched reverently as Schornkow performed material from her album First Time, Long Time. Her songs have an ageless quality to them, made all the [...]

Taking a break from electro based powerhouse anthems and chainsaw synths I present to you a chill out mixtape. Full of tech/deep house rhythms, this is not what I usually post yet I support it just as much. Ressmoon is a DJ/Producer from Bordeaux, France who also Co-Founded Burn Toast Records , and has been around the industry since 2007. This mix contains selective tracks from Ressmoon's library alongside his own (and my favorite from the mix) Circles. Bringing out obscure lyrics that one might hear from Enigma , [...]
Video: Vimeo - YouTube Photos: Flickr Audio: zip download - right click, save as I am rather embarrassed to confess that we recorded this session absolutely bloody ages ago. First the Festival, then the mixes, then intervening sessions, and finally just the sheer amount of time these take to edit managed to delay things. But now, finally, at long, long last here it is: the Kid Canaveral Toad Session. This was another relatively [...]

I first saw this card and started thinking of all the other lyrics that would be appropriate for cards for the indie music lover in your life. Of course there are an infinite number of options and these were what came first. I hit a wall while browsing the more extensive discographies of bands like Wilco, Elliot Smith, and Ryan Adams. In some cases the lyrics are grossly out of context and may be found in a heartbreak kind of song. Sometimes that one sweet line has a way of standing out above the real meaning of the song. This [...]
![[Playlist] A Meaty Vacationing Mixture](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4052057_lg.jpg)
Hello friends and others. I am off on a mini-vacation tomorrow (see above picture). When we get back from Mexico the plan is to finish packing up our house and move to Vancouver...finally. Life will be pretty wild over the next few weeks so I highly doubt that there will be much new music posted up here. As a present, here is a playlist that I will be listening to while sitting by the pool, eating tacos, drinking chi-chi's and playing some serious Scrabble. Till then... 1. Dirty Gold - California Sunrise [...]
A brand new song (literally just uploaded) and video from New York's The Shivers . I love them more and more with every song I hear. This one is just perfect right now. The Shivers - Used To Be by Silence Breaks
The Shivers - Kisses [Official Music Video] from Keith Zarriello on Vimeo . Yet another great video from The Shivers for Kisses. If you haven't picked up More yet, you have to. I was listening to an old cd in my car the other night and I heard Beauty, which was actually the first Shivers song I ever heard and it never ceases to get old with me. It's gotta be one of my favorite songs of all time.

10. The Shivers – More More reads like a series of vignettes with a common theme of love. Or, more specifically, lost love. A musically diverse batch of songs that draws on soul, garage and a little electro-pop, but all with a gritty NYC edge. The Shivers - Irrational Love [...]

Lucy Rose let loose on this festive take on the Chris Rae classic "Driving Home for Christmas." It's sure to put you in the holiday mood. And perfect for while you're listening, B3SCI recently had the chance to catch up with the budding songstress talk about her musical wish-lists as well as gathered some insight on her writing, the evolution of the Lucy Rose sound and what the future might hold. Lucy had a big 2011 and no doubt is positioned to have a major 2012. So preview "Driving Home for Christmas" and get a little piece of the mind [...]

Scottish Kate is a great friend of this blog and has often offered her (sometimes pithy) opinions on the world of music - and very good taste she has too. She also runs the always excellent (sometimes pithy), and often provocative blog A Burdz Eye View for all things Scottish (of course), political and musical. Here are her aural selections for 2011. The Burd’s Best Songs of 2011 Well it doesn’t get any easier. Though given that all my old schticks are in here aplenty [...]

With the horizon of a new year seemingly inches away, we're proud to present our best songs of 2011. We have been slaving over albums and hidden tracks for the past month, but now the beginning of our five-part list of the best of the best. 100. Maritime - Paraphernalia The charmer of Human Hearts held the ethereal appeal from a group we come back to with each new record. The group signed with Dangerbird this year and we only see bright things in their future. [...]

It's the moment you've really not been waiting for, yes folks, it's time for me to share with you all my favourite albums of the past twelve months. I fully appreciate that what I say doesn't really matter all that much and nor should it, but hey indulge me a little. This is now the fourth year that I have found myself compiling these lists. Back in 2008 and 2009 I came up with a Top 50 for each year which just seems insane to me these days. This year I have stuck with a top ten, mainly because I [...]

50. Yelle - "Safari Disco Club" 49. Body Language - "Social Studies" 48. Bleached - "Searching Through The Past" 47. Craft Spells - "After The Moment" 46. Future Islands - "Crish (Javelin Remixxx)" 45. [...]
The Shivers – More. Download “Used to Be” (mp3). Download “Love is in the Air” (mp3). The Shivers are a band comprised of Keith Zarriello on guitar and vocals and Jo Schornikow on keyboards, organ, and piano. Zarriello’s vocals have a slightly rough growl to them. Combined with his garage rock guitar licks and Schornikow’s fervent keyboard playing, the album has a soulful edge to it.

Here's what you should probably be listening to right now. Some mellow monday morning tunes to start off the week. Free mp3: AgesandAges - So So Freely Free mp3: The Shivers - Love Is In The Air (Daytrotter session) Free mp3: Matthew and the Atlas - I Will Remain
