Some people like to get their holiday shopping done early. I decided to get my holiday blogging done early. So this year I'm posting a bunch of holiday songs all at once--call it a compilation if you like, or think of it as me stopping by to D.J. your Christmas party without having to deal with me drinking up all your eggnog, insulting your guests and throwing up on your sectional. Individual tracks are available for download by right clicking on the links, or you can just download a zip file of the whole thing. 1. [...]

After discovering the jolly Carpenters cover that is 'Top Of The World' by Shonen Knife, I was itching to learn more about this Japanese goodness. A bit of googling and that picture came up (no, seriously, they look like THAT!). And also I learnt that these two women has had a career span of over 2 decades playing guitars and singing songs about stuff like sushi bars and jellyfish! Insane! Now that would be my cup of tea! I dug up two other fantastic covers, which totally cheered me up after such a hellish week. Hello sunshine. [...]
Another week has ended. Shabbat sha-fucking-lom to all you greasy Jews who read this page. I thought your people were supposed to have finely-tuned senses of humor. So, what are you doing here? For everybody who isn't Jewish, uh...welcome! It's Friday, and that means it's time for another Top Ten list. Late last night I brainstormed several new ideas for lists which will probably see the light of day over the next eight weeks. I realized that I have composed not nearly as many lists in 2007 as in previous years. One of these days I'll compile all the Top [...]
Greetings from the land of the ill. I made the brutal mistake of rushing to kill the intense burning sensation which accompanies eating hot peppers with a cold glass of milk before remembering that my body cannot digest lactose. I feel like I'm on the brink of an terrible vomit-filled evening. Too bad, I was having a really good day. I hung out in Pasadena for a while, and then almost fell asleep in my notebook trying to write a short story. Have you ever tried to write something while half-conscious? I'll tell you right now, I started on page [...]

Harold And Maude in the cemetery was a good time last night. The crowd was packed in, it was a very cool experience. I am anticipating nothing short of complete bliss when I get to see Holy Mountain next Sunday. That Mix Tape might have to be postponed if I'm going to be out late, getting drunk and soaking in a few hours of surrealist Jodorowsky goodness. I spent the early part of today reading in Echo Park. It was a perfect day outside, and very conducive to relaxing with a good book and a [...]
This could not have been more perfect. I ran across this photo while browsing Flickr and immediately looked up Peelander-Z on Youtube. Thank God they're as amazing as their name. They're a Japanese punk band based in NYC with a wickedly weird take on the genre. MP3: Peelander Z - S.T.E.A.K. MP3: ...

Oh Japan, how irony lies in the idea that such a seafood loving country be a sardine can of a place. You're Godzilla's favorite playground, Mothra's favorite skies. Our film producers like to steal your horror movies, and your backstreet vendors like to steal...well, everything else. And then, of course, there's your music. Singing in English is cute and sounds like you're trying to sing with loads of pink bubblegum in your mouth; Singing in Japanese is just as interesting. It was noted some time back that a group wasn't quite Atari enough for [...]

Everyone else seems to be posting up their "Best of 2006" lists, yet I prefer to wait until the year is actually over to start on that mess. Call me crazy. But as my insomnia was kicking my ass last night, I had to find something to exhaust my brain. So what did I do? I updated my holiday mix and recorded it for you all. I did one last year and used it as a place holder for this site until it was officially born, but since many of you weren't readers back then... I figured I'd [...]

Well, I stole the photo, so I guess I should post the damn link... Hooray! It's the first of December! The advent of Advent! The moratorium on things Christmassy has been lifted! Cue engorgement on atrocities like egg nog and fruitcake! Bring on fevered, last-minute shopping for novelty stocking stuffers! Roll out and repeat ad nauseam syrupy-stringed muzak versions of "Winter Wonderland"! Better get me a bucket... Heck, old Snow Miser even dumped a ton of snow on us here in Vancouver to jam it down our throats. [...]

Well, the first post, and boy-o-eee it's a doozie! A big mix of Christmas tunes delivered to you by a heathen, complete with a fancy cover. I tried to find a still of the scene where Billy Bob tells the big saleslady that, well, her pipes ain't gonna be working right down below, but oh well. I actually did an award-winning story in high school (well over a decade ago now) about a Santa fired from his job, getting drunk, scratching some records, and then blowing up Macy's. Of course, I could have fleshed it out into a screenplay if [...]
While I only have about 10 hours to decide on a Halloween costume, that doesn't mean I can't have a sweet soundtrack while I do it. Here are some of the finest tunes of the season! Your Costume The most important part of Halloween. Here they range from Ted "I'm a Ghost" ...
This post is too get all the Japanese Pop out of my system. It seems to be coursing in the veins of all my mixes. X Twinkle Jack // "Hello" X Hazel Nuts Chocolate // "Wild Wild Summer" X Morning Musume // "Chu! Natsu Party" You can't escape the MM when j-pop is mentioned. I had a huge chunk of the MM discography queued in my playlist [...]

I was really excited about the Blue Fish on yesterday. However, around 2:30 or so I started developing some sort of sinus cold because of allergies or something. Replete with sneezing, blowing, and itching, it has zapped my body of any energy. I tried to ward it off with green tea and voodoo chants, but I just couldn't make it to the party. I hope everyone had a great time and that someone took some good pictures. I guess the plus side is that I have maintained my record for something coming [...]
Last week, I promised to share some of the tunes that I purchased at Luna Music over the Fourth of July weekend. After a week and a half of off-and-on forgetfulness, trashed cars, and many cups of coffee, I'm finally ready to get down to business. Short, sweet, and to the point; that's how we aim to do things. Also, Pee-Wee on Adult Swim ? Best idea ever. Shonen [...]
