So These New Puritans have been getting all the buzz lately, only problem is they only had that short little EP to whet our appetites with. Well, not anymore now that Beat Pyramid has hit the webs! This infectious dance punk music is all the rage right now and this British boys are doing it just about as well as anyone else out there. Listen to the tunes below, see for yourself, but trust me when

DOWNLOAD: Shooting Spires - Right (MP3) Shooting Spires is the bedroom art-pop project of BJ Warshaw , bassist and vocalist for Parts & Labor . Retreating from the Brooklyn stalwarts and their extroverted noise-punk, his self-titled debut album is an agoraphobic mix of soaring choruses and tormented electronics, fueled on Brian Eno, Boredoms and Peter Gabriel. Get an MP3 above. Listen to more good songs at MySpace .Go see Shooting Spires on his/their first-ever tour. There will be [...]
Monday: Ravens & Chimes + Spanish Prisoners @ Mercury Lounge 8pm $8 I've heard a ton of words of praise for Ravens and Chimes since October when they apparently wooed every blogger in New York during CMJ. Unfortunately I have yet to give the band much of my time other then the occassional listen to a tune when it hits my iPod on shuffle. Perhaps its time to see if the hype is merited or not.

Parts & Labor bassist B.J. Warshaw strikes out on his own to indulge his love for muddy production and PC-based bedroom-pop.

Parts & Labor picked up a new drummer this year but, pardon the pun, didn't miss a beat. This Jagjaguar band's sound may not appeal to everyone, but their work always receives high marks and should be checked into. Bassist/Keyboardist B.J. Warshaw (on the right) had to hop a plane to Europe for their current tour, but was cool enough to give us a few minutes... MOKB : Any musical plans for the 2007 holiday season? [...]
Bon, c'est un peu en retard cette semaine, bien d'accord. Je suis désolé. Me pardonnez-vous? Mais SI vous me pardonnez. Ainsi, voici la liste de toutes les chansons qui furent joués lors de l'édition de ce lundi de Branche ton iPod sur les ondes de CKRL ! The Color Wheels - Green Means Go (disponible sur leur Myspace ) Zookeeper - Everyone's a DJ [...]
The side project of Parts and Labor's BJ Warsaw, Shooting Spires shares much common ground with Warsaw's past. Noisy pop clamor abounds on Shooting Spires but where P&L root there sound in a cross between blistering spazz punk and noise, this feels more rooted in the early days of noise-pop. This is a true bedroom fuzz bucket of an album. Slower and more telling than his past outputs, but in keeping true to his nature Warsaw doesn't let the cliché of the singer songwriter solo project creep into view. Instead Warsaw does what he does best, lays [...]

Psychedelic Horseshit Magic Flowers Droned Siltbreeze 2007 I want to work on a marketing campaign for the Columbus lo-fi band Psychedelic Horseshit. I've got all these great slogans we could use: "With a name like Psychedelic Horseshit, it's got to be good." "A day without Psycedelic Horseshit is like a day without sunshine." "Psychedelic Horseshit. It melts in your mouth, not in your hands." Ok, maybe that last one doesn't work quite so well as the others, but I think you see my point. Besides it being loads of fun to put [...]

(Les Savy Fav performing at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC) Parts & Labor and Les Savy Fav played at Bowery Ballroom this weekend, really energetic show, of course. But when did Les Savy Fav's fans all turn into closeted (and not-so-closeted) frat boys? Haven't had to deal with such aggro bullshit since I went to see Municipal Waste (which is supposed to be part of the experience there). ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------------------------ MP3: Speaking of Parts & Labor, [...]

If you're familiar with BJ Warshaw's work with Parts and Labor , then you probably have a pretty fair idea of what his solo material (recorded under the name Shooting Spires) would sound like. You really don't expect him to trade in that electrical fire waiting to happen array of knobs, pedals, and keys for some soul-bearing, bearded man and a guitar suite, do you? It's going to be a beepy, glitchy, artsy, noisy, and yet, strangely melodic clash of sounds. Shooting Spires - Right [ download ] Although, it's not apparent [...]
