Shrag [...]

Tweet The hottest days of summer are upon us here in Atlanta, and there seems to be little relief from the oppressive sun and humidity. Ice cold beverages offer some relief, but the only thing that truly distracts me from the uncomfortable reality of spiked mercury and sweat soaked shirts is a true indie-pop gem like Shrag's 'Rabbit Kids'. I'm afraid I missed the boat on this Brighton five-piece when their record dropped last spring, but I've since corrected that [...]
Last night was our second DJing experience, and it was rather a contrast to the first time around. It was all rather last minute, meaning I didn't have five weeks to fret about song choices. It was in a coffee shop instead of a bar with a dance floor, and given the rain and other factors, there wasn't exactly a big turnout. Didn't matter though as I still ended up enjoying myself immensely. Here's what I played: 1. Herman Düne - Tell Me Something I Don't Know 2. Belle & Sebastian - Your Cover's [...]

Rabbit kids - Shrag The apprehension with which i hold the future of the Pains of Being Pure at Heart can be shared with Shrag. Except it is not so much a feeling of dread in this case. Quite the converse. I have near-complete confidence that everything they ever do will be just as fantastic as everything they have ever done. So why the apprehension? They are just the two bands in the world i love, am abreast of, excite me, and want very [...]

Ghost Before Breakfast è una delle canzoni migliori dell'ultimo album degli Shrag , Life! Death! Prizes! pubblicato sul finire dell'anno scorso da Where Is At Is Where You Are .
The song list this year has a lot of crossover with the records list from yesterday. I suppose that is to be expected to a certain degree, but I get it's a little repetitive for me to be banging on about the same bands over and over again. Still, that's the nature of these lists, and I'm not going to throw in other things for the sake of it. 1. Los Campesinos! - A Heat Rash in the Shape of the Show Me State, or, Letters from Me to Charlotte [...]

So 2010 turned out to be the year where my enjoyment of indiepop turned into a full blown obsession. Pretty much everything I've listened to (or rather, listened to and liked) this year falls into the genre, or at the very least, flirts with it in some way. So any end of year lists will be rather myopic genre wise. I simply haven't listened to most of the critically acclaimed albums released this year, nor do I care to. Regularly now I will look at Pitchfork and not even recognise a single band on it's front page. A few years [...]
I am so sorry. I have been seriously delinquent in posting here at the blog. I wouldn't blame you if you thought I'd packed it in. I suppose I should put up some Christmas music to make up for it, shouldn't I? 'Tis the season and all that. I've actually had this non-traditional chrimbo mix made up for nearly two months. I made it for a friend who lost her sister last year right before the holiday. She told me she couldn't bear to listen to any traditional Christmas music this [...]
I admire people like Toby who stick to genuine singles for their year end lists, but I can't do it. It's harder and harder to know what it means anyway. The Fresh & Onlys made a fancy video for "Waterfall" but didn't release it as 7" -- is it still a single? (It's not on list anyway, but another of theirs is.) I don't worry about it, clearly, as my #1 was an album cut. An AWESOME album cut. I do still feel singles are meant to be ephemeral. If I'm not listening to some of these tracks [...]
So I've only gone and produced another podcast, this time using my creative zen mic, as it seemed somehow better than my desktop microphone. It's still not perfect, full of crackles and my my aim is to get a good microphone whithin time for the next podcast. Anyhows God Is In The Pod 3, is my attempt to reflect some of the acts that have graced our pages or will be featured on our pages over the last three months, I hope you enjoy the music. I intentionally picked mostly up and coming and emerging acts in order to give [...]
We hooked you up with a whole bunch of free CMJ mp3s last week, and now we're back with another mix featuring some of our favorite bands from the festival. More like it: The Owl Mag's Bands to Watch at CMJ 2010 This Week in NYC: The Owl Mag's CMJ Show Picks CMJ Thursday Highlights, 10/21/10
It's CMJ week! Which makes choosing a single show for each night nearly impossible! Those with a badge will bounce around, those without should aim for the following list of shows! Oh, and there's also that #Offline thing going on later this week as well. Tough week of choices ahead! Monday: Mayer Hawthorne and the... Read More

On emerging a few years ago, Cribs-supporting Brightonians Shrag couldn't decide what they were. Electro vamps? Kenickie-like pop-punk smart alecs? Shouty riot grrrls with messages? Last year's self-titled debut album tried all those hats on for size, but then it was to all intents and purposes a compilation of their 73 output to date. Now they're charged with recording songs as an album, they've learned to straighten out a bit. Helen King is less yelpy, the dual keyboards are relegated in the mix and most of the melodies are stronger without giving out to all-out commercialism. It's art-pop, [...]
Shrag Scared To Dance have just launched their Autumn fanzine! Their lead interview is with Cats On Fire who talk to them about new material and coming back to play in Britain. Also, they've got a track-by-track rundown of the new Tender Trap LP Dansette Dansette by indiepop legend Amelia Fletcher and The Specific Heats tell them about their recent European tour. Meanwhile they catch up with Shrag, Pocketbooks and Moustache Of Insanity. Here's a taste of the fanzine—an interview from the new issue with the wonderful Shrag! How did [...]
In a little more than a week's time we will be CMJ-ing our asses off once again! Hopping from club to club, catching the buzziest buzz bands of them all, and sipping on as much free booze as our livers can take! Of course the week wouldn't be complete without our own day time party!... Read More
Music video for "Rabbit Kids" by Brighton's Shrag, directed by Ian William Galloway.
Click here to view the embedded video. Shrag 's latest album has become an unexpected album of the year contender for me. I never much liked them in the past and while I quite liked the first album, it didn't really manage to grab me. I picked up the second on a whim though back in July and it's hardly left my car CD player since. Likely much to the chagrin of anyone else travelling in it. So a new video from Shrag is the perfect excuse to remind you [...]
Life! Death! Prizes!
Tweet Probably one of the best singles this year, "Rabbit kids" by Shrag . They are close to releasing their new album "Life! Death! Prizes! - out October 4th 2010 on wyaiwia. Really looking forward to that one! Hope you liked the video! Tweet

Gracias a los amigos de Too Much Apple Pie nos hemos enterado de la próxima publicación del segundo álbum de Shrag "Life! Death! Prizes!".
