We've attended every Houston Press Music Awards showcase since moving to Houston in 2003, and while each has varied slightly from year to year in location, bands and venues -- the core of the ... Continue reading "2011 HPMA Showcase: Shuttles, Sideshows and The Beans" >

A few months after releasing their long-awaited and aptly lauded EP Water's Edge , Brooklyn's finest spaced-out synth ensemble Future Shuttle (formerly a duo consisting of Jessa Farkas and Camilla Padgitt-Coles, now extended to a four-piece including flutist Lizzie Harper and percussionist Linnea Vedder) returns with another piece of extensive, sprawling psychedelia, recorded for an upcoming cassette release on Netherlands-based imprint Samling Recordings . No definite release date yet, but the floating beauty of the girls' eight-minute exploration sure makes us wish that this time we won't have to wait for too long again.

Los Angeles: Tonight at La Cita, come check out Franki Chan as he prepares for his upcoming dates on the Check Yo Ponytail Tour by providing everyone with some super fun-time selections, just for you. There is a strange, spheroidal form on the cover of Future Shuttle 's recently Zoned In Water's Edge EP; it's sitting in the middle of a field, and it could be anything from a monolithic mushroom to an unusually pillowy UFO. It's probably the perfect metaphor for the six, softly structured dream environments that lie in wait inside, for they have the particularly of sounding like they are simultaneously issuing from the Earth and floating off into a great wide unknown. Haunted Internet 's video from "Fog Spelunk" brings us out to the woods [...]

There are thousands of popular artists out there today making new singles all the time. With the increase of bedroom producers though, the ability to simply download a whole studio that you can use right on your lap has made original songs more scarce. Now it seems that your finding tens of thousands of remixes by artists with more and more ludicrous names, leaving you wondering "Transexual Viking Sword Bro- what???." This weekly segment will bring you the popular remixes and the never heard of "Transexual Viking Sword Brothers" remixes of a (common) artist's singles. From all these bedroom producers [...]
Getty Images The members of Odd Future are known for their hijinks and rambunctious ways so it comes as no surprise that a music industry veteran was put-off by their actions while sharing an airport shuttle with the rap team during a trip to Barcelona, Spain. Steve Albini , who has produced Nirvana , PJ Harvey and the Pixies , among others, was recently traveling to the European city with his band Shellac . After coming in closer contact than he would have liked, [...]

I've always found ambient music a little too uneventful - it's a cool concept and everything but dude... it's a little like when you meet a cute but very shy guy/girl who doesn't utter a word throughout the night, you know? "Talk to me, damn it!!!" Brooklyn band Future Shuttle (a band we discovered by browsing through our own live listings on the right) play ambient-ish music that's eventful enough to keep us interested - and that's when we find out that the line between ineptly shy and rather charming is very fine indeed. Fronted by [...]

As you can see above Machine Gun Kelly and Shuttle from Passion Pit will be joined in Athens by a good amount of Columbus, and in general Ohio acts. Fly Union, Cornelius Jackson, L.e. for the Uncool, P. Blackk, Byonest, Bruno, Kreg & Dez ..well you can just look at the line-up above. WTF is 8Fest? It is an annual festival and benefit concert held in Athens that donates money to charitys and also allows you to drink as long as your are of age and [...]

Do you remember shuttle runs? They were the single most unpleasant fitness exercise I ever remember being forced to do, and I was quite fit as a young 'un. Anyhow, today I am charging back and forth from Carluke, where we are getting some mastering done for the label, to the house, to the printers to collect some promo material, to the house to get them couriered down to London and then back to Carluke once more. I don't know if I'll need a pint or a nap more desperately by the time all this shit is done. [...]

Yesterday, Steve Rosborough from the stellar Minneapolis, Minnesota imprint Moon Glyph sent over Last Shuttle to the Red Planet , a track from Food Pyramid 's latest effort III , out now on a C40 tape and up for ordering over here . To no surprise, the aptly titled album is the final piece in the Food Pyramid cassette trilogy. I and II already blew our minds, so we're delighted to see that the Minneapolis trio is once again blessing us with terrific, kraut and kosmische-inspired psych compositions that appear [...]
The second annual Together Boston festival launches next week and is clearly not suffering from the sophomore slump. This year's edition of the citywide electronic music event, which runs April 18-25, is bringing in some top-name talent, including a live performance by Trentemøller, Above & Beyond, Switch, Pantha Du Prince, Anton Pieete, Mary Anne Hobbs, [...]

After work tomorrow, I will embark on a musical adventure. I'm boarding a 20-hour bus ride to my first SXSW festival. However, I hear the new Greyhounds are pimped out with charging stations, WiFi, and copious leg room, so if I'm lucky and score one of those rides, I'll be glam-cruising my way to Austin as you suckers pull all-nighters while slugging down 5-hour Energy drinks. Oh, and if you or your company had the hundreds of dollars to shell out for those fancy airplane thingies - screw you. I mean that in the most flattering way possible. [...]

Follow on Twitter! While we're on the tip of introducing artists and groups ( yello squares and Far*Out yesterday) that you may be unfamiliar with, here's one more to complete the trifecta. The four member electro-pop outfit Body Language hails from the indie haven of Brooklyn, NY and delivers on everything you'd expect when I combine the words Brooklyn, electro, indie, and pop in the same sentence. Some people would say this is what pop music truly is and not the commercial stuff we're use to hearing, but I'm [...]
