I only recently acquired BDO tix as it kind of snuck up on me and I am poor from all the recent festival shenanigans. It's going to be crowded, 40,000 punters aye aye aye... The lineup is really good. A few clashes as always which is to be expected. Particularly looking forward to Cut Off Your Hands, Shy Child, Dizzee Rascal, Enter Shikari, Juggers, Battles, Pnau, UNKLE, Arcade Fire (FUCK YEAH!) and LCD Soundsystem (FUCK FUCK YEAH!). Without further ado the BDO Mix Ceedee. (In order of playing times) The Dirty Secrets - Lighthouse [...]

Well I know I'm a bit slow off the mark, but I've just had a look at the Big Day Out set times and quite frankly, I'm devastated. As I made my way through the timetable it all seemed to be going rather swimmingly, with not a clash to be seen. Of course I was soon to discover that it was all going a little TOO swimmingly when I came across the appalling clash that is LCD Soundsystem Vs Rage Against The Machine. They're forcing us to choose?! Fuckers. Fortunately the LCD Soundsystem sideshow in Sydney hasn't sold out [...]

According to Billboard.com, major player EMI has issued a 'conditional resignation' from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry - a sort of worldwide RIAA - over "the future structure and funding of the IFPI and the national industry bodies...lead to a solution that we are able to support". This comes on the tail-end of comments made by new EMI chairman Guy Hands back in November, indicating he felt the groups needed to be restructured in order to prove more cost-effective. Apparently the thinking is, why have 50 different groups when one can accomplish the same [...]
shy child - drop the phone [ link 2 ] [this new york duo have been on the verge of "buzzdom" for the past year and though i've heard a gazillion remixes, the original (with it's silly lyrics) still gets me going every time. the song that just won't quit, maybe 2008 will be their year then...] http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld

Have been laptopless for the past month. Borrowed other people's but it makes me feel a bit rude and uneasy at times. It has made blogging very difficult, mainly just because I haven't had access to the music on my computer. I haven't been able to charge up my mp3 player either, so it's pretty much been a vinyl month. Anyway…I first saw Shy Child at Knife the Wife at Corsica Studios back in May with Kap Bambino. [...]

Shy Child is an electronic music group from NYC that flows in the same vein as Klaxons , Hot Chip , and Soulwax ; All of which Shy Child have supported on tours. Shy Child's newest full length record (their third), 'Wall of Noise', released on Wall of Sound , is their most polished yet. My two favorite tracks off the record, I just discovered, have additional production credits going to Paul Epworth a.k.a. Phones . Phones is one of the best things to happen to electronic music, so I [...]

Ugh! The last time we did one of these mixes we were happy to see some of the first warm sun rays of Spring. Now all I feel like doing is crawling into a dark air conditioned hole and sleeping until the humidity drops below 80 percent. Seriously. I'm sure things are 100 times worse up there in New York City, looking out the window here in Philly and all I can see is haze. Nasty. Walk a block and you're drenched with sweat. Hopefully, the mix below will remind [...]
The songs below are some of my most listened to in June 2007. Enjoy! Good Shoes - Things to Make and Do Assembly Now - It's Magnetic Klaxons - The Night White Rose Movement - Alsatian Shy Child - Summer Editors - An End Has A Start The Cribs - Girls Like Mystery Hope Of The States - Blood Meridian

Sometimes it's good to go back to basics. Now I'm as keen as big sounds, complex instrumentation and arrangements and multi-membered bands as the next person, sometimes it's good to strip things back a bit and enjoy music a bit less encumbered by added extras. So down to Cargo on Tuesday night for the latest one in the ever-excellent list of events by ace London promoters Upset the Rhythm , and three bands happily working with limited resources. First up, The Sticks . Probably the most [...]

you know that 4pm "slump" that you hit at the office.. like when your blood sugar is low and the coffee machine is broken and you're itemizing out the contents of your paperclip dish and the minute hand on the clock REFUSES to move despite your jedi mindtrick attempts to fast forward yourself to the nearest happy hour? it is around these times lately that I like to have a little "inter-office dance party." This basically involves sitting in my swivel desk chair, and rock out to tracks that would normally I think be reserved for the dance [...]

Welcome back from SXSW everyone, how was the trip? Well while you fine folks were all in the nice sun going from show to show we were shoveling several inches of snow off our walks and cars and trying to recover from our St. Patrick's hang overs. This week though, its all about New York with some freaking amazing lineups. Here's what we got... Monday: Fujiya & Miyagi @ Barnard College 8pm $5 As you may have heard Fujiya & Miyagi are awesome! You may also have heard that they sold out several shows at [...]

So I've been in a completely ridiculous mood lately. Like giddy and all that jazz, basically bouncing off the walls at every moment, unable to really contain any normal excitement. It can be embarrassing sometimes. Especially on a crowded subway. Last night after Ra Ra Riot and meeting the roomie for a drink over at 2A, I went back to Mercury Lounge to check out Shy Child . I really didn't know anything about this group, other than they are signed to Say Hey Records (home to my beloved White Rabbits ). But [...]

DOWNLOAD (MP3s) Shy Child - Break Your Neck Shy Child - Summer <---CATCHY Born Ruffians - Hedonistic Me <--- sort of catchy too Shy Child (from their Myspace ) NYC band/duo Shy Child are going on a tour of the UK in February, but not before they play a hometown show at Mercury Lounge on January 31st. Last night I went to see Hot Chip. I interviewed Al and Alexis about their next album before the show (interview MP3 will be posted next week) then ran home, threw down my computer and headed back out in time to sneak right up front and catch Shy Child 's (pictured above) set from beginning to end. They are hot. Both musically and otherwise. They're on Epic Man 's 679 label Good and Evil. They sound and look kinda like Supersystem crossed with Copy crossed with [...]
