Refused reformed. "Waaaaah, they said they'd never, ever, ever get back together," you moaned. "Waaaaah, if you'd gone to see them the first time round, your opinion might be valid," we replied. Yeah, the Swedish punk legends were criminally under-appreciated back in the last century. They're finally on the pedestal they deserve to be on these days so, ahead of their Main Stage appearance at Download Festival 2012, let's have a look at how good their New York City return was. Six things we learned when we saw Refused play [...]

The first annual CBGBs Festival will take place July 5-9th at venues across New York City. According to the New York Times , about 300 bands will perform at 30 locations, ranging from "large stages like Central Park Summerstage and Webster Hall to small clubs like the Trash Bar in Williamsburg and the Living Room on the Lower East Side." Guided By Voices, Cloud Nothings, and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart will perform a free concert in Central Park, while hardcore bands The Cro-Mags, Vision of Disorder, and Sick [...]
Sick Of It All - "Step Down" Learn the steps, do the dance.
Few bands with longevity remain with one record label for very long. Grievances, sales underperformance, lineup shakeups, and myriad other issues make stability a lazy, laughable ideal. Chances are, bands who've been around for decades will see albums go out of print for one reason or another. The most obvious and welcome remedy is for [...]
Sick Of It All Nonstop Century Media 31 October 2011 by Alex Andrews This is a strange one. To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Sick Of It All have decided to compile 20 career-spanning "hits" together on one disk. Only the New York hardcore veterans have gone back and re-recorded them all with the benefits of modern technology and [...]
That sound you hear is the echo of corks popping off the champagne bottles at Dave Mustaine's house; for the first time ever (?), a Megadeth record outsold a Metallica record in its debut week. It's not a proper Metallica album, and what it is is a steaming pile of turds, but it's still gotta [...]

" In celebration of our 25th anniversary, we will be releasing NONSTOP, an album of re-recorded classics. The album will be available on November 1st through Century Media and we have teamed up with Lambgoat.com to premiere one of the tracks. We had a great time re-recording some of our favorite songs, done the old school way, 20 songs recorded and mixed in 4 days! What better way to kick it off than with the new, rawer, heavier version of Built To Last? Hope you like it. Let the trash talking begin! " - from SickofItAll.com [...]

NYC hardcore band Sick of It All are going to celebrate 25 years as a band with a (sorta) brand new record.

Currently, I am reading and enjoying Bob Mould's auto-bio "See A Little Light" . A fine book, not as heavy on the soul searching as I woulda thought, given his cathartic oeuvre of music, but some good insights nonetheless. He doesn't savage Grant Hart as much as you would expect, given their post-Husker relationship. Actually, he seems to think less of Greg Norton- basically describing him as superfluous to Hu-Du (except for his driving abilities). Additionally, at least so far (I'm about halfway thru the book), Mould doesn't bury the book in overkill as far [...]
Horns up for readers Alexis Taylor, Kyle Palmer, Eric Josi, and Andy Kiss! They each correctly identified last week's logo as belonging to the band Nihlotep. For their troubles, they each get a copy of Turbid North's kick-ass album, Orogeny, which is out now on Ironclad. Crank that shit up, guys! This week we have another [...]

Hardcore has been through a considerable evolution since the emblematic 1980s, with most of the contemporary acts operating under that banner sounding poles apart from progenitors like Black Flag or Minor Threat. So it's a testament to the state of this music that Queens, New York natives Sick Of It All has managed to stay [...]
Longevity in hardcore is a rare thing. Black Flag and Minor Threat have been broken up for decades, while groups like Cro-Mags and Dead Kennedys have sporadically revived with curious and even dueling lineups over the years. So last year, when H2O celebrated their fifteenth anniversary, it was a pretty big deal. Yet fellow NYHC [...]
