Interviewing rock & roll stars is not easy. They are a wild, usually egotistical bunch who often live outside the boundaries of acceptable human behavior as dictated by societal norms and generally accepted "common sense." For example, it may seem like common sense that once should not be nodding off on heroin, unable to speak, and wearing a shirt with a swastika on it during an on-camera interview. But for Sid Vicious, this seemed like an okay thing to do, and so he did it. Here's that, and nine other rock & roll interviews gone terribly wrong. [...]

First I want to say that this was one of the hardest top lists I have ever done. Some of these don't deserve to be ranked any lower than the ones above them. While I didn't write as prolifically this year as I did others what I wrote about I really and truly loved. And then the other folks 'round these parts wrote about good stuff too. But the end of the year breeds top lists so I have been struggling for the past couple of weeks to actually rank these albums. I honestly will be doing some of these [...]

Si te gusta el arte y sus manifestaciones más underground, te recomendamos poner especial atención al programa producido por el reconocido artista callejero inglés Banksy , se trata de "The Antics Roadshow" . So there are a lot of things that differentiate Frank Sinatra from most modern metal musicians, but I'd like to concentrate on two: He could actually sing. He was an honest-to-goodness, not-to-be-fucked-with badass. And so it makes no sense to me that, according to Noisecreep, "members of Anthrax, Twisted Sister, Deep Purple, Queensryche, Warrant and [...]

Filed under: News , Holy Hell On the 30th anniversary of John Lennon 's tragic murder, parts of a previously unpublished interview have been released by Rolling Stone . In the newly unearthed interview, which hits newsstands on Friday, Lennon said, "I'm not interested in being a dead [expletive] hero," just three days before he was gunned down by deranged fan Mark David Chapman. The Beatles legend had been speaking with journalist Jonathan Cott about the suicide of [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Book Club If you were at New York nightclub Max's Kansas City back in the mid-'60s through the '70s, there was a likely chance you might have seen some famous and future stars. On any given night, Andy Warhol and his entourage could be in the back room. An up-and-coming musician from New Jersey named Bruce Springsteen once played upstairs at Max's. And somewhere inside the establishment, abstract expressionist painter Willem de [...]

¡"God Save the Queen"! No te pierdas nuestra exclusiva con uno de los sobrevivientes del punk-rock.

This week's take on the tops and the turds that came our way in the weird, wonderful world of music news has a bit of a political slant. Music and politics may make for uneasy bedfellows at times, but they've gone hand in hand since at least the days of Woody Guthrie's dust bowl ballads, if not before. So when a bunch of legendary rockers make an admirable stand, we're moved to mention it. Likewise, when a misguided opportunist exploits the posthumous legacy of punk's biggest loser, we can't help but cry "Foul!" [...]
If you've memorized Sid and Nancy and have visited Room 100 at the Chelsea Hotel, you may want to check out a documentary opening this summer.

According to BBC News, Malcolm McLaren died at the age of 64, in Switzerland today after a long bout with cancer. One wouldn't normally think of a band manager as super-influential in the music industry. But then again, there aren't many like Malcolm McLaren. The punk movement is forever indebted to McLaren, who managed the New York proto-punk/glam group The New York Dolls. His name is forever synonymous with The Sex Pistols as he managed the pioneering UK punk band. It was McLaren, who brought politics to music through punk music. McLaren created [...]
As a trainspotting effort of sorts (or something), Brother Ib of the esteemed Sibling Shot On The Bleachers and yers truly conspired to throw out some cover versions of toonage that are superior to the originals. Being the anti-dogmatic reprobates that genetics deemed, he threw out one and I am trowing out far less than the ten we targeted. More importantly: WHAT ARE YOURS??????? Do You Wanna Dance - Ramones -- Bobby Freeman: The Ramones only wanted to be a top 40 band. Was that so much [...]

Filed under: News Frank Sinatra 's signature tune 'My Way' is reported to be responsible for a number of murders in karaoke bars in the Phillippines over the past decade, the song provoking such a divisive reaction among the Filipino public. Sing it wrong, and you could get shot. The New York Times reports on the 'My Way killings' as they have become known, and now it is a brave person who clears their throat to attempt the song. One amateur crooner, Rodolfo Gregorio, [...]

This release combines a well put-together 80-minute documentary on Sid Vicious with a 10-song live CD from one of Sid's solo shows at Max's Kansas City. Starting off with the CD, this is an audience recording but it is one of the better sounding recordings from Sid's four solo shows at Max's Kansas City. Sid Sings (Virgin) was predominately composed of tracks from Sid's 9/28 and 9/29 shows at Max's. This disc contains the entire first set from the 9/30 show which is Sid's last known live performance. For this [...]

Filed under: News , UK Speaking on the eve of his reunion tour with Public Image Ltd [P.I.L.], frontman John Lydon has revealed his regret about allowing Sid Vicious into the ranks of the Sex Pistols . Vicious, real name John Ritchie, was a school friend of Lydon's who joined the then-notorious punk band after bassist and founder Glen Matlock was ousted from the band. In an interview with the Independent , Lydon said: "Once you start on that heroin trail of self pity [...]
Join us as we tinker with some of the key moments in the history of rock and roll and detail what could have been had what actually happened never happened at all.
Ah, the follies of youth - apparently Alex Kapranos was so desperate to emulate Sid Vicious , he was hoping he was going to die an early death: "I wanted to be like Buddy Holly or Sid Vicious or Rupert Brooke and have achieved everything I was going to do and done it all by the time I was 21 and then die glamorously. Unfortunately, it didn't happen like that." ... so, instead, I did the next best thing and stabbed someone to death and spent time lying about in a pool of my own [...]
