Tweet Birthday Mixtape - Side A by Soundsgoodtometoo A year ago today I was still recovering from the Reading Festival and sat at home contemplating that perhaps my musical career was never quite going to happen. It had been over a decade since Brother Jonny and the Monks and I still hadn't learnt to actually play any instruments. Time to move on. Instead, I decided to instigate the next best thing; a music blog. 2 hours later Sounds Good [...]

Zorch, from Austin Texas, are truly something to behold. Their noise rock sound is tunefully hectic, and tracks "E.M.F" and "Cosmic Gloss", both clocking in over 5 minutes, are packed full of sounds and noises that could keep even those with the shortest of attention span. To hear music played with such energy coming from only two guys is ridiculous, and certainly isn't something you get to hear often. On top of this, they apparently have multiple other projects that they do. You can download the single for free at dublab. However, make sure you buy the [...]

It's been a while since I've talked about Zorch. I have been anxiously awaiting new music from this Austin duo since they released their demo back in '09, so when I heard their new stuff today I didn't hesitate to put it right here on the blog. The new tunes come in the form of band's new cassette single "Cosmic Gloss" b/w "E.M.F.," showing off some pop hooks to go along with their unique brand of noise. Zorch have received recent press from the likes of Paste, Esquire, and NPR, who named them one of [...]

Meet Austin's spazz-mongering soothsayers Zorch . Formed in 2009 by Berklee College alum Zac Traeger and a gentlemen known simply as Shmu, the duo was already a devastating live force straight out of the womb, winning hearts and crushing minds in and around an already fertile music scene. Saturated in shimmering sci-fi sounds, pummeling percussive acrobatics, and a strong inclination toward solid hooks, Zorch's noise pop places equal emphasis on both the noise and the pop sides of the spectrum. The band's first recordings since their early demos, a new two-song single Cosmic Gloss/E.M.F. (no relation to the amazing Anglo [...]

Christine Hale E. Super "We Super" (From Side A out now on Hellfyre Club) If this album reminds you of something that you just can't place, you should probably know that members of E.Super (Maestroe, Kuest1, AlwazProlific and Alpha MC) have produced a slew of great L.A.-based artists such as Busdriver, Prince Po and Nocando. As a debut, Side A is a refreshing, funky surprise to some of those annoying summer hits that go into heavy rotation right about now. "Embedded in Me" [...]

Treetops - Side A (Hope Always / Arrogant Youth / Voice Of Man) The opening track, "Hope Always," sounds like the wind is breathing and "Voice Of Man" could be the sound of clouds meditating. Full review on diskant .

Chicagojazzen - Side A (Shaolins 140 nävar / Synthpop / Stadium IV / Burträsk / Kallt stål / Skotta isgrotta / PZ / Ulmer & Per / Benny har inga ögon / Doris Kiosk / Jag har inga pengar) Chicagojazzen is not from Chicago. Chicagojazzen does not sound "jazzen." Just forget everything you thought you knew about this guy 'cause you have no fucking idea. Brachiosaurus is a crazily [...]

Jungle Gym Vaginas - Side A (untitled) JUNGLE GYM. VAGINAS. Did you hear that? Say it. Out loud. JungleGymVaginas. Have you ever heard something so wondrous? So mysterious? So charming? So fucking hilarious? There is ZERO need for me to describe the music to you. Because this band is called Jungle Gym Vaginas and that is ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW. For real. You think it matters what kind of music they make? Well you're wrong.

1971 Kama Sutra 2031 A deep west coast groove for your music Monday. A rare time when Flamin' Groovies layed down a straight blues riff - super chunky and a villainous rock star lyric to boot: "Got a woman, she's my hopped up high school queen. She's my woman, she's a teenage love machine. " Every father's nightmare, really. Beware of rock bands. Off to work. Teenage Head Tagged: 1971, Flamin' Groovies, Mp3, Side A, Teenage Head

1970 Columbia 9986 I dig Jerry Fuller's " wall-of- sound light " production. (both kooky and groovy) Looks like Jerry only produced squares for the most part. I'm not judging, I'm just sayin'. Arizona lyrics are a gasser - "strip off your pride you're acting like a teeny-bopper run away child" Mark sounds like a Fox News anchor for the most part. He's not too fond of hippies. After hearing Doves and Fleet Foxes over the weekend - gonna have to throw up some Glen Campbell real soon. I dig 'Spaghetti Western' pop. This [...]

[HappyParts just scored a new CD Recorder" at today. The last one I bought came from Craig's List and it was bunk. 4 years later, it's on. Ghost Grass - Side A (untitled) Ghost Grass is the guise under which Max Lord records. I had the opportunity to see him do a live collaboration with Karlheinz and that was the first I'd heard of either of them. Lord blew my mind with his furious drumming and I knew I had to hear some of his recorded work asap. Sadly, I procrastinated in my quest for his tunes but eventually a [...]

Maniacs Dream - Side A (Untitled) All hail the Finnish super group! For real, Maniacs Dream features members of Avarus, Kemialliset Ystävät, my personal favorite , Fricara Pacchu, making some seriously fucked tunes so this definitely counts as a super group. Long has it been since I've listened to a band whose name was as accurately descriptive of the music. I bet you heard the name Maniacs Dream and didn't really think too much [...]

Malinalli - Side A (Untitled) Malinalli seems to be a mysterious dude(s). I can't come up with anything on Google that seems to be related to the same Malinalli that made Path Of The Fruit . All I got is the Cloud Valley Myspace that links to Dream Safari in the description of Path . And the DS page has as much info as Google does on Malinalli so that doesn't [...]

Mist - Untitled (Side A) I'm pretty sure most people have at least heard the name Emeralds before but I guess it doesn't really matter either way. Mist is Mist, not Emeralds, even if half of Mist is also in Emeralds. Certain Expansion is a very limited edition tape (100 copies) that takes an aspect of Emeralds (in this case, synthesizers) and just fucking runs away with it. Mist is pretty much all [...]
