I guess I was too busy reading end of the year lists to notice Mae Shi offshoot Signals first mp3 hitting the internet . Cousins Jon and Bill Gray along with drummer Jacob Cooper create a swirly twitchy sound that will definitely remind you of The Mae Shi but with a new slightly poppier new wave ingredient. Downloadable: Spector (mp3) Hearing this track leaves me with two questions: 1. When can I hear more of this?? 2. When are these guys coming [...]

[Fun, festive fundraisers. Cool concerts. Punchy parties. And the Pity Party. This weekend has it all, and I must be quick so I can try to find my godawful-est sweater for the Christmas Sweater Festival on Saturday:] Tonight: Foreign Born [pictured] headlines Spaceland. I hope they use the sleigh bells if they play "Union Hall." ... Red Cortez , the VLA , Rademacher and the Growlers play a benefit for Artists in Aid at the Edgar Varela Fine Arts [...]

When Mission of Burma reunited in 2002, they followed up a series of well-received shows with a brand spanking new full-length, OnOffOn , in 2004. Fans were probably even more surprised when the group dropped the absolutely bone-crushing The Obliterati after their laps in 2006, and now, three years later, yet another new full-length, The Sound, The Speed, The Light arrives seemingly out of nowhere.

Israel's Monotonix are known and respected and perhaps even secretly coveted here in L.A. because of their world-wrecking live set and super-charged rock 'n' roll. Singer Ami Shalev speaks now while presumably fully clothed. This interview by Rena Kosnett.
They Came From The Stars I Saw Them will be releasing a new EP come September in a very neat and exciting package. Remix duties are from Tronik Youth and King of Town on 'Rabbit Seal Monkey' an Emperor Machine Instrumental Dub of 'Signals' and Hatchback on 'The Unstoppable Kite'. DFA fans alike will be happy to plonk this in the HiFi system and chill-blaze-jam. They Came From The Stars I Saw Them - Rabbit Seal Monkey (Tronik Youth Remix) Z Ubbs

Screaming Females fire right down the middle between Husker Du , Damaged Black Flag and Teenage Jesus and the Jerks and occupy more psychic space as an irreducibly solid three-piece than bands several times their age and weight combined. There are many gerunds that begin with 'S in English and they use the ten best in every set. Their newest Power Move is out now on Don Giovanni. This interview by Chris Ziegler.

Sunday at Pitchfork Festival started out with by far one of the oddest shows of the fest. The Mae Shi , as you might have read , were/are in the process of splitting into two bands (Mae Shi and Signals) and the guys that were on stage are the three that are becoming Signals . They ended up playing a mixture of remixed Mae Shi songs and new Signals songs. Weird. The good news is that the band (whatever you want to call them) did bring doses of jittery punk energy that was pretty entertaining although their [...]

Photograph: Busy Signal, Peter Dean Rickards Busy Signal continues to be the hottest artist in the Dancehall scene. He is on fiya right now with a couple blazin new tracks on the "Indiscretions Riddim" produced by Juke Boxx Productions . Indiscretions is really chill new riddim with a catchy guitar riff at the start which is blowing up the dance across the world. These two Busy tracks show the true versatility of this artist as everyone know: Busy can flow; fast or slow. Busy Signal - Beep [Indiscretions [...]
My first time seeing the spectacle that is the Mae Shi coincided with the group playing its final show before splitting up into two bands: the Mae Shi and the Signals.
Sorry to be M.I.A the last few days been a little bits nuts around our parts lately. Just wanted to get you caught up to speed on some things happening in "the scene" if you can call it that. I like the term "Isle of Misfit Toys" a lot better. Check out what's up with your favorite bands below. ---------- Rock Insider is choosing to stay out of the Mae Shi [...]

Beastie Boys have canceled upcoming concert appearances — including a Sept. 24 date at the Hollywood Bowl — and pushed back the release of their new album "Hot Sauce Committee Part 13 after band member Adam "MCA" Yauch was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his salivary gland. The cancer is considered treatable, and Yauch said in a video announcement he would undergo surgery next week. [Info for Bowl ticket-holders here .] ☛ Farewell: Very sad to see Harvey Danger announce its demise, a decision that announcement on the band's website calls [...]
ZACH THAT: WHO IS PLAYING AT PITCHFORK FEST TODAY? That depends on who you ask. If you ask Jon Gray, Bill Gray, or Jacob Cooper, the Mae Shi are playing. Jacob's Facebook update from yesterday says this: Jacob Safari OK guys, tomorrow 1PM Union Park on aluminum stage Pitchfork Fest. LAST MAE SHI SHOW W/ THIS LINEUP EVER. THIS IS IT. This makes us sad, and requires some back story. Back in 2006, when Ezra and Corey quit the band, Tim and Jeff and Brad weren't sure what [...]

Signals Pitchfork announced today that the last The Mae Shi 's last show will be at Pitchfork Music Festival this weekend - at least in its current form. The rumor has been spreading along the eastside for a while now and today it was finally confirmed. Mae Shi members Bill Gray, Jon Gray, and Jacob Cooper have left the project to form a new project called Signals [...]
