You've probably already seen this video, since it's one of the greatest things on the internet right now - but just in case, here it is again. The Portlandia tour recently made a stop in San Francisco, including Wild Flag/Sleater-Kinney's Carrie Brownstein and Saturday Night Live's Fred Armisen, and the audience was treated with an extra-special cover at the end of the show: Thao & Mirah joined them on stage to play Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It" . And those with eagle eyes will also notice Eric Kuhn, of Silian [...]
Silian Rail have decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign . The two-piece instrumental band are looking to record an "adventurous" new album and EP, and they need your help to complete it: We are Silian Rail, and we are raising funds for the recording of our third full length record. We are two long lost friends from North Carolina who re-met in San Francisco by chance, and have been writing and performing instrumental music ever since. Recording this album will mark six years of us making music together. In addition to the full [...]

Side With Us Records showcased four stylistically diverse bands at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco Friday night.

Silian Rail are a two piece from Oakland/SF. Robyn on guitar and Eric on drums/guitar/ glockenspiel/keyboard (some songs he plays three instruments at once), they both are amazing to see live. If you live in one of the lucky cities they will be stopping by in the near future, I strongly suggest you go and see them because Eric rips and Robyn wails, creating one amazing show. http://www.silianrail.net/ [...]

Silian Rail burst forth on the excellent Parks and Records Label, blowing my mind with their minimalist, yet remarkably full, instrumental excursions to the end of sound and sanity. Naturally, We drooled a little with Robin (guitar) and Ed (drums) dropped on by the Ripple office for a chat. When I was a kid, growing up in a house with Cat Stevens, Neil Diamond, and Simon and Garfunkel, the first time I ever heard Kiss's "Detroit Rock City," it was a moment of musical epiphany. It was just so vicious, aggressive and [...]

Silian Rail is an Oakland two-piece, playing instrumental post rock. A guitar surgically attached to a mound of pedals, and a stack of drums. Eric, the drummer, was able to play both guitar and drums at once, pretty impressive, and even more impressive - he also played a foot bass controller (think oversized pedals that make up an octave on a piano that you can play with your foot, and in his case your bare foot). Though it was often dreamy, they were able to keep the audience awake with elaborate drumming, and a good [...]

Silian Rail Silian Rail When it was announced that From Monument to Masses would be playing their last show ever at the Great American Music Hall with fellow Bay Area instrumental acts Silian Rail and Judgement Day , I remember feeling genuinely upset yet content since they had picked the perfect venue and opening acts to close out their 10 year career. Eric Kuhn and Robin Landy, otherwise known as Silian Rail performed an impressive set, showcasing an enormous sound [...]

From Monument to Masses perform their final show at Great American Music Hall on Saturday, August 28th (9pm, $15). They'll be joined by fellow local instrumental rock bands Judgement Day and Silian Rail . From Monument to Masses - "Beyond God & Elvis" It was a real treat to sit down and interview these guys for the podcast last year, and we know they'll be missed by devoted fans around the world. Earlier this year, guitarist/co-founder Matthew Solberg offered [...]

Oakland duo Silian Rail have made an album celebrating the tone of the well played electric guitar with by smart percussion. Robin Landy (guitars) Eric Kuhn (drums, foot synth, vibraphone, glockenspiel) take instrumental music to the next level on their Parhelion album. Their "less is more" approach focuses on textures and natural echo. At first sounding like "roll tape and put out an album" turns out to be a layered piece of work that unveils fresh gems after each listen. The adequately titled Maps And Mazes is a rock song [...]

On Sunday, August 1st, Silian Rail were happy to crown a certain achievement: the release of Parhelion , the duo's excellent new album and latest rendition of instrumental post-rock after last year's And I, You to Pieces . The evening was jovial, relaxed, and full of talented local musicians. Honeycomb opened Sunday's show with an absolutely lovely set, and Tartufi closed out the evening with their signature experimental rock. More photos [...]

As previously reported , Silian Rail 's new album, Parhelion , is out now via Parks and Records . To celebrate the occasion, the very talented two-piece will be playing a set at the Rickshaw Stop this Sunday, August 1st, along with Honeycomb and Tartufi (headlining). The show starts at 8:00 pm, costs $10, and - given the new album and the three-fold level of awesome on the bill - is not to be missed. [...]
