December is always a bit of a hectic month. Lots of Christmas shopping, parties, and the like, plus the year end specials, lists, New Year's parties. One year I drank every day of December because there was just too much going on. I don't think I'm going to match that this year but it's going to be close. There are some damn fine shows in December as well so that should clot the schedule even further. Here's what I'm looking forward to so far. What are you looking forward to? Free Shows (err show, what's up where's all [...]

Prior to the show, you could just feel the anticipation in the room.... the Joo's were actually here in Los Angeles playing the Henry Fonda Music Box. Rumors were flying around that Steve Malkmus would make a cameo, but it didn't happen. No matter, D.C. Berman and crew more than held their own playing fan favorites spanning their career trajectory. Notorious for not touring, Berman & band seemed not only comfortable onstage, but heartily enjoying the experience. Head [...]

The Silver Jews' D.C. Berman doesn't like being called "Dave." I learned this last night after his band's performance at the Henry Fonda Theater, where they played to a packed, enthusiastic house. Dude came out and signed autographs for every last one of us afterward and we had a conversation about how he wanted to get a bunch of Davids together in Portland to fight back against being called "Dave." I told him I used to be of the same opinion because I related the name to the dad from "Alvin and the Chipmunks" but then I got [...]
I bought my Silver Jews ticket approximately three minutes after it went on sale. After twelve years and five albums, this was the band's first-ever tour, a momentous and unexpected event I wasn't about to miss. Even beyond their terrific music, I've always felt a special connection to the Jews. They got started at the University of Virginia, where I went to college, and while ninety percent of my campus embraced the Dave Matthews Band as Charlottesville's best homegrown act, I knew better. The only David that mattered was Berman. When the night of the show finally arrived, [...]
So I was all set to write something brilliant and searing tonight, but instead I went to a birthday party and got really smashed. Please let my life be a cautionary tale, folks. DO NOT engage in any aspect of social interaction until you have successfully secured the next day's blog entry under your belt. The world needs to know who the next Tapes 'n Tapes is going to be and it needs to know now.
In case you're living under Iraq (rimshot!), you already know about my boy Mel Gibson and his a) drunk driving, b) referring to a female police officer as "sweet tits", and c) anti-Semitic tirade. The time has come for somebody to get poor old Mel's back. Unfortunately, I cannot support action "a". Drinking and driving don't mix like two dicks with no bitch - you'll end up in some serious shit. Let's move on to "b" and "c"...

Okay, so anyone who has ever met me has heard my rant on digital photography. My biggest issue is that digital is changing the essential nature of the photo album. There are no bad photographs anymore, no more mistakes (and the mistakes are often the most beautiful images) and very few hardcopy photoalbums. My boy has had his digital camera for about four years and how many times has he printed photographs? Once! Our photoalbum is one sided! I always said [...]
In a couple of hours I'll be heading off to catch the Pitchfork Music Festival. All week, friends have been asking me who I am most excited to see at the two-day event. That's a bit of a loaded question, with some of my favorite bands (the Mountain Goats, Yo La Tengo, Destroyer, etc.) playing, and others (the National, Jens Lekman, etc.) who seem never to have an off night and always perform

I went to this last year (1) and had lots of fun, due to that five letter word that most college students don't have I will not be attending but if I could this is what I'd personally check out and that you lucky enough to be going should try to see. Day One Chin Up Chin Up :These guys are a cool little indie rock band. Very catchy, and they are on that lovely label Flameshovel (3) . Chin Up [...]
Last week I received an email from Ryan Schreiber saying that he wanted Rewriteable Content to do complete coverage of the Pitchfork Festival, all expenses paid. Pretty sweet huh? I thought so too, until I realized that was 5 AM and I had been dreaming. Dreaming or not, The Content will be attending the Pitchfork Festival in Chicago next week, no expenses paid. I know what you're thinking - no

You may remember last week when we were knee deep in the rumors of a potential Neutral Milk Hotel return that Stephen Malkmus was talking to Mark Ibold and saying that they should get back together ( source ). Well now here comes word that Malkmus and Silver Jews are going to be sharing the same stage on Septembr 8th at Musicfest NW ( source ). I don't know about you but this news is certainly going to stoke the rumorville that resides in my head! Could it actually be that Pavement will make a triumphant return in Portland, Oregon? [...]
