Photo still: Hotel Chevalier Wes Anderson's long withstanding obsession with mellow, baroque pop and british invasion bands is fascinating to me. I keep uncovering my new, old favorite song every time I see one of his movies. I even have a playlist dedicated to his films, filled with songs and artists I discovered thanks to him and a few more songs that I think would fit in his next hypothetical movie. I've no idea what his next movie will be about but I've been thinking that his mostly muted, awkward characters would develop grandly in [...]

Critically acclaimed AMC's Breaking Bad is a gripping drama following the life of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), an overqualified high school chemistry teacher turned meth cook. When stricken with terminal lung cancer and in search of a way to make sure his family will be financially secure without him, he turns to his former student Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) to enter a new business of cooking the highest quality meth around. Not only is Breaking Bad brimming with what could be considered as some of TV's best acting, it is accompanied by a top-notch soundtrack that wraps [...]
I was talking to Douglas from Yoga Records today at the store and we spoke briefly about our college experiences. He mentioned how when he was taking a summer class at an out-of-state college the institute of higher learning threatened to withhold the credits he'd earned on the grounds that he owed money from damage [...]

Tweet All of the songs listed below were personally chosen by the artist or blogger above. I got in touch with a lot of artists and bloggers who were all kind enough to get back to me and take part in Desert Island Discs. If you're unaware of the concept behind Desert Island Discs , check out the basic pitch I gave the artists and bloggers I got in touch with. You can support the artists featured by clicking on the album cover and buying [...]
I need to thank my former student who turned me on to "Chateau Revenge," the new album by The Silver Seas. Daniel Tashian's voice sounds eerily like Francis Dunnery's at times. Indeed, some of the songs sound like Dunnery's, particularly "What's The Drawback?" and "The Best Things in Life." Others might hear Crowded House. It [...]

Memorial Day weekend is the romantic end of Summer, even if it doesn't official end until the 21st. But, psychically, this is it. Let's do it up. (These mixes will continue for two more weeks, I'm going till the Vernal Equinox.) While you're out barbequing and such, don't forget to remember those that helped give you what you have now. Like this perfectly good strawberry shortcake bar that died for the artwork this week. I hope you appreciate it. They're hands down my favorite junky frozen treat. DOWNLOAD SUMMER FRIDAYS 3.15 [...]
It would be easy to mistake the Silver Seas as having arrived via time machine from 35 years ago rather than forming this past decade. Though the band has only been releasing music since 2004, they seem to have more in common with the likes of Steely Dan, Jackson Browne or any number of 70s pop-rock icons than with their current peers. The Nashville group navigates the pop music of their chosen decade much like The Clientele do the 60s, seeking not to combine classic influences with modern trends, but rather emulating the past right down to the instrumental flourishes [...]

Trying to get back into the swing of things with blogging, and to start I have an excellent band to recommend to you: Gold Motel Gold Motel is an indie pop project fronted by Greta Salpeter (who currently performs as Greta Morgan), a name a few of you may remember as being associated a few years ago with The Hush Sound. I was quite fond of The Hush Sound, especially their earliest material, so news of this new band (which also includes several [...]
Thank you everyone! Somehow I have reached the 100 loyal readers mark. I would like to thank all of you for your continued support (2 weeks straight of over 100 repeat visitors). I love you all and I am flattered every day just knowing that people all over the world take a few seconds to read/scan/disregard my daily musings. Thank you thank you thank you. In fact, yesterday I got my first middle east hit from Pakistan which was pretty cool. Despite the horrid design and excess of hungover postings, the blog is moving forward and gaining followers every day. [...]

The Silver Seas - Chateau Revenge! MMM I'll be honest, I've been waiting for this one. Since we reviewed "Another Bad Night's Sleep" back in June, I've just been excited to hear the whole product, with new band name included. The Silver Seas have a great idea going here. Besides the album opener of previous mention, there's a lot to [...]
This edition of The Buzzsicle, which I've randomly titled "Summerfunnin'," includes a batch of music that's hit my inbox in the past few weeks — some old, some new, some just new to me. In future episodes, I will try to highlight new releases and songs/bands that I simply don't have the time to do full blog posts on. It's been a long while since I've done the Graboid, so I imagine the aftermath of the 4th of July weekend is as best a time of any to shake any kind of rust off. In the time between posts, I've pretty much managed to completely lose track of album releases in the past month or so. If everyone doesn't mind, I'd rather just start from scratch with a brand new week rather than dredge through everything I've missed. It sucks, but it's a task that I just don't want to sit through. Anyways, like [...]
