It's the end of the year. 2012...and we survived. Unless some mad Mayan rises from the grave in the next three days and turns us all into zombies and the inevitable Irwin Allen disaster picture. Anything's possible. So here are my top pics for favorite albums of 2012. It's really a toss-up between Jack and Corin. I went with Corin in the final coin flip because I find myself going back
What a year. More than 140 Los Angeles-sired albums passed through the Buzz Bands LA headphones this year, not counting EPs, mixtapes and singles. Judging from the detritus at my desk — handwritten lists, stacks of CDs, press releases — and my unopened emails, there were a lot more out there. It came in all flavors. 2012 was a robust year for folkies and faux-folkies, hard rock and harder rock, for electro and popgazers, for scads of seemingly interchangeable garage-rockers, for radio bands and scruffy DIYers, for electronic dance music and electronic dumb music, for R&B and glitch&B [...]

10. GROSS RELATIONS Gross Relations [autoprodotto] Brillante esempio di garage pop made in Brooklyn.

, This Will Destroy You , Godspeed You! Black Emperor y Explosions In The Sky ). Me enamoré perdidamente de Sharon Van Etten y Daughter . Conocí proyectos nacionales que me volaron la cabeza como Soledad , [...]

Visit Indie Shuffle to download. Song: The Joy Formidable - Whirring [download here ] What's so good? The Joy Formidable certainly made a splash with their 2011 debut album The Big Roar . Two songs in particular lead the pack: "Austere" and "Whirring." [...]
I've been to a whole bunch of festivals in my time, but at 28, my time might be coming to an end. Creaky knees, pale skin and general grumpiness have lead me to start turning down festival invites in the hope that my favorite bands will be playing a sideshow. But Harvest Presents is different. "Harvest is not a festival, it's a feeling." Held for the first time last year in Melbourne, Brisbane and (my home town of) Sydney, the festival was one of the best musical days of my life. Even before the bands were [...]

photos by Tracy Allison Silversun Pickups / Cloud Nothings @ T5 10/15/2012 Last week, Silversun Pickups brought their tour with Cloud Nothings through NYC for shows at Terminal 5 on October 14 and 15. Pictures, videos, and setlists from the first night are HERE , and we've got pics from the second night in this post. The setlist was pretty similar to the first night, but they [...]

Comparisons can sometimes be a hard thing to shake for today’s indie rock bands. Often it feels like critics and fans of modern rock, or any other genre for that matter are too quick to compare contemporary artists to those of the past. More often than not, these unfair comparisons stifle young bands from crafting their own identities, forcing them to always live in the shadow of the former bands they’re supposedly “ripping off”. To that end, L.A. quartet Silversun Pickups are no strangers to lofty comparisons. Upon release of their 2006 Carnavas , the band drew heavy comparisons [...]

I'm pretty sure I have to make it to this show tonight. Silversun Pickups come back to Philly (area) for a show at the Tower Theater , along with Cloud Nothings . Both of them are constantly getting mentioned on the site, so it kind of demands my presence. I caught SSP at Firefly and was blown away by how awesome they were live. The drummer sets that cymbol so high and poinds on the drums with the same intensity of a young Grohl. Tonight should be a good one. Enjoy a track off their debut [...]

Photo by Brandon Funk Not to be confused with Atlas Shrugged , the surprisingly punctual Atlas Genius took the stage promptly at 7:00 p.m. with a presence similar to Cold War Kids . Early in the set, they began by kicking on an ephemeral delay to the tone of the guitar and synth which would shadow the rest of the show. These vapory effects were aids to three-part harmonies and catchy pop melodies that hopped around the venue. Their song “In a Day” created a groove-based dance meme that seemed to be [...]

Close your eyes and put your finger on your screen. That song is fresh from an unheard of artist about to bloom. This week's Weekly Download has lots to offer, albeit with a heavier presence of electro. No, not trance and techno, but indie electro artists who use all of those wonderful electronica elements for their beats and ambiance. There's a great deal of good stuff here in our weekly 10. First off Log Across The Washer sounds like some Beatles B-sides with their McCartney-like vocals. Lots and lots of them to check out [...]
