B ecause our internet connection was down yesterday, and it has just been a really busy week, this post is a day later than I intended it to be. Is everyone recovered from Pitchfork yet? Anyhow, here are more MP3's from artists appearing at Lollapalooza 2007 . I've actually found a lot of great stuff that is seriously making me rethink the bands I had initially planned to see. How about you? I also found out that a guy that I work with went to the Grammys with Lupe Fiasco. Small world, [...]

My favorite new record this week isn't really new. Carnavas, the debut album from L.A. four piece Silversun Pickups, came out last year. Its new to me though. I was watching MTV2 a couple of weekends ago, and I was, shall we say, pleasantly buzzed. It was a block of live performances, and this band came on. I believe the song was Lazy Eye. It totally caught my ear, with its hugely catchy riffs

I read today that Snow Patrol are touring Australia again in September courtesy of Frontier Touring Co. Well that news is of no interest to me as this band's brand of rock has all the texture of cardboard. But I was excited to hear that Los Angeles' very own Silversun Pickups are providing support. Their debut 2006 album "Carnavas" was very popular round my way so I am hoping very hard that the 'Pickups' will be putting on their own show/s. They have been compared to Smashing Pumpkins but I believe they are more then [...]

This has been one of those weeks. Finally, the weekend is here and there are a lot of shows worth seeing... SATURDAY The Kooks are invading America and DC is next on their agenda. They will be playing 9:30 Club along with the really good Pennsylvania band, Illinois . The Kooks - Naive Illinois - Alone Again A [...]

Thanks Matt for getting me into the Silversun Pickups show last night at the Phoenix. I arrived a little too late to see fellow label-mates Sea Wolf perform, but just in time to grab a beer and wait for the headliner. It was around that moment when I fully realized how long it has been since I've listened to the radio. Since a couple months ago, Silversun Pickups have been taking over, landing the single ' Lazy Eye ' on many commercial radio rotations. [...]
Awwwww man! COACHELLA! Wasn't that amazing?!?! I mean, when that one band…..so awesome. I almost….you know….all over my pants!!!! MAN! Great times. Hot, crowded, but man….great. G-R-E-A-T. You're right. We didn't go. And if you can't tell, we'll about as bitter as squirrel nuts. Rage? Probably just o.k. I mean, they couldn't have been that…..you know, after all these years….(sob)……right? Here are some tracks from bands you may have seen and said "Man, I hope the Miz posts music from this band on Monday." We [...]

Once again, it's that time of year for the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in my home town of Indio, California. And once again, just like last year, I look at the lineup early in the year and look at the lack of money in my wallet and my busy schedule and think, "meh....I don't need to go." And then I get to about a month before the concert and I think, "why aren't I going???" Ah well, another year, another missed opportunity to go to Coachella. Enjoy this round up of bands [...]
Silversun Pickups [MP3] Silversun Pickups - Melatonin [MP3] Sea Wolf - Black Dirt Silversun Pickups are everywhere right now - Absolutely freaking everywhere. On my way to work I saw 3 bus benches for their new album Carnavas. Their video for "Lazy Eye" is in heavy rotation on MTV2 and Yahoo! Music and KROQ has been playing the track for a few weeks now. The band just finished up a tour with

My weekly catch-all post of music-related linky randomness, with some national bits and some Boston-area show news. Touch & Go Records continues their weekly sharing of fantastic video featurettes on the bands and their performances from last fall's 25th Anniversary celebration in Chicago, and last week was my favorite so far: Arcwelder. The modest men are interviewed, and you get to see

According to various reports California, if it were an independent nation, would be the fifth largest economy in the world. A state of infinite possibilities, it has always seemed to me to be lacking in musical highlights. Since those kings of slacker rock Pavement burst out of Stockton and gave their musical genius to the world, I have found myself looking to other US states for my musical experiences. Grandaddy shone briefly for a while but states like New York (obviously), Washington, Oregon and of course Texas have provided great artists that have delighted me and the musical world. Even [...]

When you know the right people, you find yourself with 2nd row seats to see Snow Patrol with Silversun Pickups and OK Go as openers. The Silversun Pickups sounded great, but lacked stage precense. They didn't introduce themselves, their first statement after coming on stage was to ask if we were ready to see the big show after them. I don't think they should have discounted themselves so quickly. They have great music. The chatty pre-teen girls sitting behind me didn't even know who the band was until after they were done playing. OK Go was [...]

I have been reading a lot about this lost continent that's probably not out there. I didn't want to discuss it because there's a vicious rumor going around that Al Gore reads the blog for shits and giggles and I don't want to inspire a manic search for a lost continent. It's called Mu or something . There's actually tangible evidence of this happening, unlike the wet dream that was Atlantis. Take a look at this picture. It's possible that there was an event in the earth's [...]

Not too sure how many cross-over fans exist between Silversun Pickups and Al Kooper, but there were people who clamored for a Mudhoney and Sir Mix-A-Lot collaboration so who's to say there's not an audience out there who appreciates both of the aforementioned acts playing Nashville tonight. Like Janet previously stated, there was a point when everyone in their 2006 year-end lists referenced Silversun Pickups, specifically their song "Lazy Eye" from their debut release Carnavas . [...]
In the group's final performance of its four night residency on Last Call it performed "Kissing Families." Looking back it's hard to imagine that every fan was satisfied with the song choices, I for one would have much rather heard (seen) "Melatonin," but such is life - we still got to see Silversun Pickups on broadcast television (albeit Carson Daly 's show) four nights in a row. Silversun Pickups "Kissing Families" Silversun Pickups "Kissing Families" [...]
On the third of four nights of the group's showcase on Last Call with Carson Daly the band chose to stick with "Rusted Wheel," another great track from last year's Carnavas . Check back the tomorrow for the band's final performance on Last Call and don't forget to check out the previous performances of "Lazy Eye" and "Little Lover's So Polite." For the second night of a four night stand on Last Call Silversun Pickups performed the great track "Little Lover's So Polite." Silversun Pickups began the group's four day residency on Last Call with Carson Daly this past Tuesday. The purpose of the showcase is to get the ball rolling for the group's upcoming tour, which boasts a schizophrenic lineup. Opening for the group is not only viral video sensation OK Go , but adult contemporary monolith Snow "Shill any song for a buck" Patrol . If it means that more people learn the name Silversun Pickups, I suppose it's a good thing. Silversun [...]
